…Barack Obama will have cured poverty, racism, and hiccups. You’ll be able to drive to work in your cell phone. People will still be waiting for “Darko’s breakout year.” And Raptors fans will be holding their breath in hopes that Chris Bosh, their future Hall of Famer, decides to “keep it Canuck” and sign a… Read more »
Download the Opening Tip here. It’s the Lakers tonight and Jermaine O’Neal is ready to play. Is he 100%? I don’t know but if he’s not then he should sit. The last thing anybody wants is aggravating an injury and a player playing with a ready-made excuse to not play well. No offense to O’Neal… Read more »
Joe Johnson didn’t find things quite as easy this time around. Hawks 88, Raptors 93 We needed to win these last two games and we did, so credit to the team for getting the job done before hitting the tough schedule ahead. We split the four game homestand and show some defensive improvement from the… Read more »
The “bandwagon will be leaving from track 8” edition. Adams – Sam must really wonder why his boss brought this guy in. Vincenzo Esposito is probably deserving of more playing time than this boil on the ass of our ballclub. Brilliant move by Sam to add another DNP-CD beside this golden nugget’s name. Bargnani –… Read more »
If the upcoming Laker game is ranked 10 on the degree of difficulty scale and say Charlotte was something like 4, then the Hawks should be around a 6 or a 6.5. Plus they’ve already kicked our ass once and that was with Jermaine O’Neal in the lineup, so needless to say we have to… Read more »
Bargnani gets helped up after taking one for the team. Bobcats 86, Raptors 93 Club under scrutiny. The Mitchell-haters must’ve almost been hoping for a Raptors loss which would’ve given them plenty of ammunition to come hard at the head coach – not that they won’t as things stand. A home win over the Bobcats… Read more »
The “it would have been better if we lost” edition. Adams – Captain of Useless. Bargnani – horrible shooting night (4/15 from the field, 2/6 from three) but his efforts may have won this game for us. If he put up those numbers early last year, you would have to put up with him looking… Read more »
It’s time to step up and be men. It’s time to show some pride. It’s time for heart and character to shine through. Dramatic I know, but the chips are down, and these are the moments that separate the men from the boys. When everyone is healthy and the shots are falling, it is easy… Read more »
These are tough times, team’s not playing well, the injuries are piling up, the defense isn’t there and worst of all a potentially humbling West coast trip is lurking in the shadows. They say you have to hit rock-bottom before you can start to rise and I think we officially did that this weekend. The… Read more »
Calderon overplayed Rondo all afternoon and got burned. Celtics 118, Raptors 103 Silly me, I was thinking that with the crowd ready to explode behind them the Raptors would come out with energy, passion and a killer-instinct against the Champs. I figured they’d be looking to erase NJ from their memory and do whatever it… Read more »
This I can explain. His low usage rate when he is on the floor minimize his impact on team stats, such as team O/D rating and even plus minus (since that stat also accounts for the other members of the rotation. However, when he is being used, his individual stats, or the stats that are only dependant on his contributions, he looks pretty good, pretty great even.
Basically, like what everyone else has been saying, it comes down to usage rate. Involve him enough in the offense and there's no reason why his individual efficiency won't be reflected in the team stats.
Now here's where you might say "but the raptors lose more when he shoots more than average, so the usage rate argument doesn't hold up". That's a fair point, but I would argue that Jonas often gets those extra field goals when A) the guards are putting up a ton of bricks and Jonas is cleaning the glass, or B) he's a last resort after its clear that the other scoring options aren't working. In both scenarios, the team as a whole is playing below average, so it makes sense that they would win a lower percentage of games.
