Philadelphia 76ers 93 Final
Recap | Box Score
83 Toronto Raptors
Andrea Bargnani, C 41 MIN | 9-19 FG | 2-4 FT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 23 PTS | +4

Good enough. Need more in the fourth, though. For once I’d like him to carry the team on his back…to a W.

Jonas Valanciunas, C 20 MIN | 3-6 FG | 2-2 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 8 PTS | -2

Good enough.

Jose Calderon, PG 38 MIN | 5-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 11 AST | 14 PTS | +3

Lots ‘o minutes, lots ‘o heart.

DeMar DeRozan, SG 44 MIN | 6-17 FG | 6-8 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 19 PTS | -4

33% shooting is for chumps. Up against Evan Turner, you expect the $10M man to perform.

Alan Anderson, SG 27 MIN | 3-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 7 PTS | +10

Sad day when a guy like him starts.

Ed Davis, PF 4 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 PTS | -9

4 minutes?

Amir Johnson, PF 19 MIN | 1-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 2 PTS | -9

Absent. Entirely. Picked up cheap fouls, which you’d think he’d be past by now.

Dominic McGuire, SF 6 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 1 AST | 0 PTS | -6

More zeroes than DeRozan’s salary.

Linas Kleiza, SF 12 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 PTS | -20

Beat McGuire in the race for more zeroes in the box score.

John Lucas, PG 16 MIN | 1-7 FG | 1-2 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 4 PTS | -11

Pre-season is a liar.

Terrence Ross, SG 13 MIN | 2-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 6 PTS | -6

Raptor fans need to calm down and just enjoy the game. It is too early to panic and this team needs time. Lowry and Fields were not here. Big Val and Ross are just getting to know the game.

    Look at positives:
    DD is playing amazing.
Anderson has been a great surprise !!

The only concern is Amir’s game. It seems like he plays one good game and then takes the next 4-5 nights off !! Is that worth 6 million ? Yes, Why not 😉

    • RapM

It’s hard to enjoy the game when you feel like destroying the TV watching your team play like crap for at least 1 quarter a game.

      • Jamshid

In no shape or form this is a great team. This is not a play off team. It has many over paid players ( Jose, DD, Fields, Amir, Kleiza and …) . It has one of the worst GMs in the league and …

All that being said, it is early in the season. We were missing Lowry and we do have 2 Rookies plus Ed which is basically a rookie.

Hang in there people. I know it is tough, especially for those who listened to the likes of Matt52 and drank the Kool-Aid all summer and … It is tough but this is reality and not what was presented to you by the fan boys of the RR.

        • Copywryter

You know as well as everyone else that it’s ‘early in the season’ for every team. Most NBA teams have 2+ new faces in the lineup year over year. Hell, we lost to a Dallas team missing three effing starters!

Ed is not a rookie he just plays like one.

There are no excuses. We’re just not a strong team and what’s worse is that we’re not playing hard for our coach.

          • FAQ

I felt sorry for Jose as I watched him going to a time out with his head down and looking at the floor.  What a helluva way to end one’s NBA career playing for this disjointed team and hearing the booing.

Him and Bargs have nobody decent around them like they had many years ago.  Just about now, Jose would welcome being traded… while Bargs is stuck in TO.

Listening to Bargs being interviewed on NBATV Post Up, it was evident he knew the team was not a real team. Those who hate Bargs have sh!t for brains.

    • Asd

dude. dd is playing like a retard, just putting up points on a deprived team. anderson is a surprise, but not good enough.

      • Dan

Demar on most teams wouldn’t get the playing time he gets here. For every 5 fouls resulting in free throws there are twice as many horrible shots thrown up in an attempt to draw fouls. You won’t have a hard time finding NBA guards who can put up 20 points on 33% shooting. What you will have a hard time finding are ones being paid 10 million a season. Thanks BC!

6 buckets in 45 minutes is ~ a billion light years away from amazing.

That’s just cesco talk about DD.

    • EmarErozan

Not much to enjoy (unless you love the clang of Emar’s new turnaround jumper from the post).

    • bbc

when does BC finally get fired?

should have been fired the minute he hired Jay Triano.

this team isn’t just bad, it’s a laughingstock.

  2. Ppellico

um….didn’t he do this last season?
How long does everybody need to understand he is not a really menatlly tough boy?
He seems to get the benefit of this all the time.

Why is JV taken out when “they” go small?
Isn’t Jonas supposedly a fleet footed player?

Very confused by coach this season.
    His defense sucks.
His offense is a confused mash of players not really sure who they are or what they hould do.

Hell…I knew the season was going to be tough when Amir gets applause for shooting distant shots.
This is the absolute most stupid idea this season.

  3. KJ-B

Something tells me BryCo is not gonna take the fall for 1-who knows? or 2-15 start… Watch yo’ back Duane Casey + while ur at it, bring in a 10 day pg and never let John Lucas ever touch the court again!

    • EmarErozan

If Lucas ever touches the floor again I guarantee he will shoot it off balance from 26 feet.

  4. Dc

Im sorry but this team blows. Lowry or no lowry honestly. I don’t actually believe that some actually believed that this was a playoff team. I tell you what if this is a playoff team then the NBA has bigger problems. Because that would mean it has become a complete joke. What Dumbass BC needs to do is blow this whole team up and start all over again but the idiot traded away our first round pick which will likely fall between 5-13 anyways so nope. Hopefully after OKC gets our first pick this coming draft and we get a new GM hell have the balls to do the right thing and get this mess figured out.

  5. Copywryter

Stink. Stank. Stunk. I knew we’d be a bad team — without Lowry we’re essentially no different from last year’s bad team. But the lack of competitiveness makes it painful to watch. You could hear the booing in the second and fourth quarters and they deserved it. On paper this was a winnable game.

Dunno why you’re slagging Evan Turner. He’s an above average defender. Dunno why they’d give DD all those contract zeroes, he’s a below average defender.

You’re going too easy on JV. C+ night at best.

    • Dan

Bryan Gave Demar that contract so he can keep trying to convince everyone that he is a starting caliber player.

  6. 511

I thought this team’d be good. At least all right. But I was way, WAY off. This team is not good, no.

    • FAQ

A coach can’t create instant talent and must work with what he’s got… and it ain’t much now.  Casey is doing his best, but when things are collapsing around you, it’s tough to pull a miracle out of your bag.

The t.h.f.’s are like a pack of rabid dogs when their fantasies are dashed by reality.

I hope the haters and the honkers vacate and vanish because their low IQ outbursts are quite childish, immature, even ludicrous. They should vent elsewhere.

  7. Retardshatebargs

when is this team gonna realize demar can get buckets but when the games on the line….he wont and he cant and he aint skilled enough to do so…..u feed bargs all day and all night……i thought casey said this isnt  a democracy or some shit…we got scrubs throwin up bricks….id rather we lose going to our best 2 or 3 options every time down court and thats it…..15 man rotation…pfff….this is gettin ridiculous….lucas is 2 for 27.

    • FAQ

If you replaced Bargs with Bosh, the result would have been the same.  Trying to blame one player is the sign of a childish honker who loves his b-ball shoes.

    • FAQ

I thought Bargs tried his hardest to turn the game around, but with the rather low b-ball IQ and lack of physical talent around him it was futile.  I was perplexed with DD missing so many 10-15 foot open jumpers.  Remind me again why BC gave him that huge extension.

  8. dalmatino

Coach, coach and coach. This loss is on Casey only. Second quarter was lost on bad coaching not bad players. Everyone can have a bad shooting night/game but coach job is to correct it with proper subs. As I already said, coach, coach and coach. Shame, it was winable game.

  9. Brandon

Why is this expensive team relegated to the third worst record in the league? What is the Rogers/Bell empire paying all of these players for? Is it to lose games? If so, mission accomplished.

  10. cmonletsgo

It hurts being a Raptors fan. What a soft team. There always seems to be a ready excuse. “Start of the season only”, “Lowry is out”, “New players in the starting lineup” etc.
Management said at the start of the season that rebuilding was last year and now their was to be an emphasis on starting to win games. That is the standard I am holding them to. They don’t have to win every game, but they do need to compete. Lowry can’t be the only player on the team that can get into the lane off the dribble. You can’t set the team up that way. I like Casey but he needs more talent. Not just jumpshooters. Guys that can compete. They dont even need to be great scorers, just guy that can get into the lane. It the Raptors’ shots are missing – they lose.Thats the scouting report so far this season.

    • mo

I said it before and I said it again, Raps are too one dimensional. No one other than Lowry provides one skill. Amir + Ed are identical, Bargnani can only score, Derozan can only score (not via jumpers), JV is a rookie and isn’t a versatile player yet, and Kleiza + rest of the bench are scrubs. The Raps are no different from Detroit/Charlotte/eveyotherlotteryteam + Lowry and despite it being early in the season, I don’t see how we are better than any other team in the Atlantic. Now ask yourself, if we aren’t better than Philly, what is the likelyhood 5 teams from one division makes the playoffs? Extremely low.

  11. Andrew2012

Calm down???!! You’ve got to be kidding me!!! As a fan who has seen nothing but excuses for this team after spending my hard-earned money just to watch these sticks run-around thinking this is jumper-happy disney-land, I have all the right to be frustrated!!!
Calm down??? No Sire!! A professional must have pride to begin with!!! Wished super stores carried it so we could buy the team some early Christmas gifts for them to use on a golf course at the end of the season.

  12. ad

Ugh… Can we just fire that moronic GM of this team for assembling this clusterfuck of a roster? Injuries are not an excuse. The sixers were missing their best player as were the raps. The talent is SIMPLY NOT THERE. This game was fine from a defensive standpoint but complete lack of execution and TALENT on the offensive end. Derozan had 19 pts but 0 assists. 0!! This guy is not a core piece. Same goes for bargs with his 5 rebs in 40 mins of playing time. Not blaming them but they are not good enough nor are the scrubs like johnson and anderson surrounding them.

  13. Ion66

That game was so ugly, it’s mother couldn’t pick it up without making a face.

Lowry aside, I really thought this years team was an upgrade on last years talent. I’m baffled by Landry and Lucas and I remember the team still having a similar record, but being competitive for more of the game this time last year. I still have hope, but real talent doesnt have the inconsistencies that much of this squad displays. A while back, Ed was a double double machine…Now, as someone pointed out, he looks like a rookie. Lowry and Lucas seem like the talent Gods came and took back their skills. Bargs is…well… Demar I can live with in a way. He’s going to have the odd 4 point night for whatever reason. Kleiza has me wanting to go buy a Jersey for a few nights in a row and just as I’m about to hit “add to cart”, he puts up zero’s like a WW2 movie set in the South Pacific. All I need is a few core guys to produce solid, consistent decent numbers and the rest can play as much as they are earning it on any given night. So far……Well, we’ll see come all-star break before I really worry.

    • FAQ

“Demar I can live with in a way. He’s going to have the odd 4 point night for whatever reason.”

At $10 Mill per year for the next 4 years???  I doubt he can be even be traded now.

This may be BC’s biggest of blunders.  What  was he thinking??!!!

      • FLUXLAND

In his own words he was thinking:

“…his value would have gone up further. With all of the
due-diligence that we did and with all of the information that I’m privy
to, we feel that this is at or near where he would have been next year.
The only downside of waiting would have been that someone (else) would
        have come in,” he said.”

By information and someone else he probably means Uncle P and the No Limit souljaz implying a tactic out of the Suge Knight Negotiating Handbook.

  14. Tommy

32-7 in one quarter. As bad as the Raptors have been over the years, that just takes the cake. An NBDL would have put up a better fight in the 2nd than we did. I’ve come to the conclusion that I must be a masochist to have been a Raptors fan this long.

And DD is not playing amazing, he’s just the best retard on a special Olympics team (Lowry excluded).

  15. NyAlesund

    Please someone fires Colangelo!!!!

Yesterday was an excruciating game. I can’t believe the low IQ this team has. I have never seen AB out of his mind when he punched the protetction and swore -uck in italian.

I do not understand the acquisitions we made. It was impossible to make an offer to Young?  Why have we payed an amount of money for Fields? To seal the defence? OMG. We need talent. We need players able to score. Yes, the defence is important but you can create a valid system to compensate individual issue but offensively you can’t do nothing without talent.

So now, without Lowry this team is evaporated offensively and defensively is suck. Someone has to tell me why we continue to double the point guard o whoever has the ball on three point line when the rotations do not work. I understand that we have to protect Calderon and avoid easy penetrations but this way of playing doesn’t pay dividends.

BC has to do something. Trade AB, JC, LK……… I do not know who but it is clear we need fresh blood. And we have to do now, before the next 15 games kill us.

    • Theswirsky

“I have never seen AB out of his mind when he punched the protetction and swore -uck in italian.”

      that part made me curious.

Was he mad with the turnover that led to a break, was he upset with Jose who gave a soft foul and allowed an and1 or was he upset with himself for watching the play unfold and jogging back?

      • NyAlesund

Seriously: this team is shit. When you have a big fella double every time, with confidence and able to dish the teammates with open shot (that missed most of the time) why didn’t give him the ball?
When you struggled to score points (38-10 from the bench team) you have to go to the first option.

The Sixers spend 63 mln and the Rapts 62 mln!! There is something wrong. Yesterday see Anderson, Ross, Lucas, Kleiza…………was terrible.

        • NyAlesund

I like AB but you can’t show only the stats to answer. Yesterday he played bad defensively expecially when he doubled. I can accept some defensive mistakes but he can be so slow like a sloth during the rotations. Everytime the Sixers have found easy shot. And honestly consistent part of them were his fault.

          • Beaverboi

While I agree somewhat, a number of the blown rotations were because he was doubling the pg 5-10 ft beyond the 3pt line. How many other 7 footers are asked to do that?

            • FAQ

Ditto … this is the stupidest defensive ploy because Bargs exhausts himself running back to cover his check under the basket, and in many cases it’s too late.  Don’t blame Bargs for failing to guard two players at the same time.. the PG and then the C.

Somebody has to tell Casey and his coaching staff to take their heads out of their azzez.

              • Theswirsky

so you guys would prefer no hedging and allowing the ball handler open penetration?

maybe someone should call every coach in the NBA and let them know traditional basic defense of the PnR is working properly.

                • FAQ

so you want Bargs to push the PG out beyond the arc and then run back to guard his man standing next to the basket unguarded?

Bargs doesn’t have that kind of mobility even though he tries hard.  That’s just a fact.

                  What’s your solution?

                • p00ka

And get who back that would fill that role, because nobody on the current roster does it better.

                • FAQ

Yup, just watch him. Okay so he’s slow on rotations but who wants to sacrifice their body when some 220# guard is barreling down the lane at full speed.  Would you sacrifice your body for the Raptors???!!!!

  16. Kujo

This team sucks without Lowry.  Plain and simple. LOL at those who actually thought we had a shot at the 8th seed this year.

    • FAQ

Lowery is not the messiah for this team… in fact he may be a detriment to the team with his street-balling, ball-hogging style of play.  I prefer Jose… while the t.h.f.’s prefer somebody who trow da ball in to da hole…. so they can scream their faces off.

  17. Scottbbaird

Could we package a combination of two or more of the following:

Amir, Bargnani, Fields, Lucas, McGuire, Acy, Ross

    For a near-all star SF?

    • FAQ

No… because a legitimate “near-all star SF” will not show up to play for Toronto.  Of course if Vince returned as has been rumoured, would that fill the bill for you??!!!

  18. KJ-B

Not sure people realize it but the Calderon/#7 pick ‘n roll is the worst thing that happened to the raptors since they chose Rob Babcock as a GM…When that Bromance begins everrrybody is tuned out–so they can get theirs…Look around at the replay and see just how many ppl are standing there doing thing because everrrybody in the arena knows it’s the D-League version of Malone & Stockton and ain’t nobody else is gonna touch the ball…

Congrats Casey, you’ve lost the team ALREADY!!! Didn’t Mike Brown just get fired??? That’s the difference with a championship organization and this MLSE garbaaaaage~~~think we don’t know y’all don’t have a clue over there!!!!!!!!!!

  19. sonjagvrvd

How can u give them such high grades. When they get totally blown out in the second Q. Anyone who played in the 2Q should not get higher than a C. Didn’t see any effective adjustments by Casey either, and i like him. They better adjust fast, cause they will be out of it by the 22 game mark. If they don’t have 8 wins.
