Washington Wizards 90 Final

Recap | Box Score

84 Toronto Raptors
Amir Johnson, PF 37 MIN | 2-8 FG | 2-2 FT | 13 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 3 BLK | 2 TO | 6 PTS | -3The offense wasn’t there, but 13 rebounds and 3 blocks tells me he was trying to contribute where he could. B- might be a bit high, but in his defense, most of the team had a hard time getting going without producing in the other facets of the game.
Rudy Gay, SF 42 MIN | 1-11 FG | 5-6 FT | 6 REB | 4 AST | 4 STL | 1 BLK | 5 TO | 7 PTS | -3Missed shot. Turnover. Missed shot. Turnover. At least he wasn’t 4-21. Seriously, this was easily his worst game in a Raptor uniform, but he grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 4 steals and swiped 4 steals. I’m not sold on the C-, but I felt D+ was too harsh.
Jonas Valanciunas, C 18 MIN | 2-4 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | -6He needs Olajuwon to coach him on offense. He’s absolutely no threat unless he’s at the rim with a head of steam. Liked his defensive effort on Nene, but if he keeps up his fouls, we might have to call him Mr. Hands.
Kyle Lowry, PG 32 MIN | 6-17 FG | 3-6 FT | 5 REB | 3 AST | 2 STL | 2 BLK | 2 TO | 18 PTS | -3He could have done more; could always do more. Run the offense, make some plays, more pick and rolls…more cowbell…I dunno…I now know why other team’s fans want him on their squad, but his current team always lets him go for nothing. I did enjoy his defense down the stretch when the Raptors were playing against the spread, but it mattered not.
DeMar DeRozan, SG 39 MIN | 9-17 FG | 7-9 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 25 PTS | -4Showed up for work, and put pressure (the only Raptor to put pressure) on the Wizards interior defense. I especially appreciate his commitment to getting to the line; 7-9 tonight. Solid.
Landry Fields, SF 5 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -2Garbage; somehow manage to trick Casey into giving him 5 minutes of floor time.
Andrea Bargnani, C 21 MIN | 4-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 8 PTS | -2He drew a charge and hit a couple timely jumpers. So while the booing is just bad decorum, he really doesn’t do anything to avoid getting booed.
John Lucas, PG 16 MIN | 4-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 9 PTS | -3Spark off the bench in the 2nd quarter when the Raptors needed a jolt; they didn’t think to go back to him when the game was slipping out of reach in the 4th. Even dropped three dimes; couldn’t have expected more from the kid.
Terrence Ross, SG 6 MIN | 1-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 3 PTS | -2Had totally forgot about him until he hit that three in the 4th. That’s all he did of note.
Dwane CaseyNot sure what he could have done with all the ugly that was abound. At the end of the day, the players need to run plays and take advantage of opportunities as they develop, but would have been nice if the lineups were mixed up a bit; could have used more Lucas during the leaner times.

Three Things We Saw

  1. The first half made me hate life; some of the ugliest basketball ever witnessed.
  2. Raptors had more turnovers (14) than assists (13). That’s all that needs to be said.
  3. Just really glad this game finished.

  • trample54

If he can get back the confidence to nail those shots…he’ll be fine.

    • FAQ

How about another category… “Fans” … and giving them a big fat F- for demoralizing tender Bargs… and in effect to share a lot of the blame for the loss tonight…. ??!!!!

  • ckh26

What we saw tonight was brown, organic and aromatic.

    • Adriiian

I see what you did there.
      Some nice kaka.

  • LinuxFTW

Gay should be a D and Amir Should be a A or A-. I don’t like these ratings.

    • Scottbbaird

I agree with Amir at A-. And Gay at D.

      • KJ-B

The only reason Amir had 13 boards was because the Raps/Washington built a couple MLSE condos between both rims tonight with an avalanche of bricks–his blocks were as a result of no one on the DC frontline being able to jump over a phone booth–look again…he mishandled the ball, missed chippies…some1 had to grab the bricks????

      • Dbobb28

I believe that Gay is an F. Think about it. He is averaging over 20 points a game since he came here and is suppose to be our superstar. As the games get bigger and bigger, he has to produce. He made 1 single field goal and had 5 turnovers. Final total 7 points. That is an F and nothing higher.

        • Nilanka15

Agreed.  I have no problem handing out an ‘F’ for Gay’s performance.  Downright pitiful.

  • mike, prague

What?? C’mon … I think Bargs deserves at least a C+. This definitely wasn’t his most efficient game but he did put for his standards a extra-ordinary effort in my opinion… DC AB’s marks should be switched …. DC failed to get the right guys in down the stretch … Even though he can’t be blamed for the bad execution of the plays that were ran and FT’s for tripping ober your own leg …

  • Mike Markovski

Jonas has a decent little face up jumper, for 20 I think hes okay. Needs to work on post moves, but I think it will come with this kid, looks very promising to me

  • boshrawr

maybe they should have worked on incorporating more set plays into their offensive gameplan rather than behaving like hooligans and conducting all that tomfoolery in filming the craze that’s sweeping the nation. Harlem shake? Amir tv at the end of the vid, this one is on you bud!

  • Annoyed

Did you watch? Lucas was CRAP. Bargs was at a C and Lucas should have the D+. Talk about stagnant offense!

Casey deserves a worse score too.

And wasn’t Telfair going to get some time tonight? Wtf?

    • KJ-B

Shouldda been the easiest grade of the season DeRozan A, Lucas B- and the rest of the team a D–but RUDY was an F-….truth be told, right?

      • LinuxFTW

I agree but Amir was also great and Lowry wasn’t that bad.

  • Destro

Like i said from jump a couple good games was a complete smokescreen…

Im not gonna hate on Rudy but 1-11 against THIS team is just not kosher…and its a helluvalot worse than DeRozan going 1 for 9 against Tony Allen and a much better interior defensive Grizz team….it needed to be said.

    • Adriiian

I like where you are going with this. So I think I’ll continue.

RG22 is a talented player. I don’t have much NBA knowledge but reminds me of Danny Granger in a way. Chucker.
Not saying he isn’t talented, but this was a bad trade, and will always be. I know we needed a presence at the 3, but his presence is not it.
He shooting <40% in a Raptors uniform, I understand hes hit game winners, but he took us out of this one.
DD is now the 2nd option, and it gets easier to play because the other team has got someone on Gay, but meh.

Please understand, I'm a die-hard Raptors fan, I don't care about any other team. I just hate to see this team lose, and honestly, lose like this, with all the wrong stuff.
Colangelo has dragged this franchise through the mud, beginning with his coveted #1 pick. So we can't really blame the players, or Casey for that matter.
When a company isn't working, you don't blame the entry-level position clerk, you blame the CEO.

Its time we blame that retard Colangelo. Fucking NEPOTISM at its finest.
      #rant

In a way, this shitty franchise deserves US shitty fans, and you know were shit fans when were booing our own player.

EDIT: I encourage all replies, please understand this is my perspective, I'd love to hear yours.

      • FAQ

RG22 must be thinking how he got dumped into this nightmarish pot of shit in Toronto… and his face shows it… total stunned disgust with this team of rodents scurrying about without any playmaking ability… it’s everbody for themselves, and he’s royally pizzed.

        • Adriiian

you are a bit too cynical my friend, much more so than i.
but if you are right, we are fucked.

fuck, even if ur wrong, were still fucked.

      • DumbassKicker

Since you asked, my perspective is that this is a game thread, and the Raptors played a shitty game.

Beyond that, my perspective is that it’s way too late to get into the daily “bitchin’ state of the union address” type discussion that always pops up over and over in these threads, every one rehashing the same opinions, by the same people, as the previous one. You’ll get some attention though, if that’s what you’re after.

        • Sig

I believe this comment is in need of a ‘like’. Well done.

        • Adriiian

Thanks. Means a lot you wrote that.
I will stop the “bitchin’ state of the union address.” Cause it really is a game-thread.

          Thanks man.

    • morons

well thanks for gracing us with your presence and psychic powers you pathetic fuck.

  • Colonel_Hapablapp

I get the feeling this road trip (after the Indy Game) is a blessing in disguise for Bargnani. Time away from the ACC and the hate could (and if he really is an elite player, SHOULD) help him gain confidence, and then on March 10th, he should come back and drop 30 on the Cavs at the ACC. The crowd will not boo him if he comes back and becomes an offensive juggernaut. (Fine…maybe 30s a bit much….20?)

I’m Anti-Bargs, but I so want this to happen.

    • Adriiian

Lol. Why is 30 too much? His career high is 41?
      Oh yea. Anti-Bargs.
      Good idea tho.

  • Hahahahaha!

    Mr Hands?  Seriously?

  • Dru_hoang

were they yelling boo or boooARGS?

Tough lost. Glad to see DD picking up the slack and drawing fouls. Can’t say much for everybody else.

We just need 2 of the 4 ( Gay, Lowry, DD and Bargs) to have good games and we’ll win.

  • KJ-B

The problem with the Bargnani aka -7 type player is that he plays for Primo Pa$ta–Take away Primo’s paycheque and he’ll put up 20/10 2moro but will then quit in a fortnight to get a “real” job.  Whereas you takeaway DeRozan’s paycheque and he’ll give you the same numbers and would work the night shift or three jobs to play ball… #ballisLife to him indeed!

The problem with following Rudy Gay is: you NEVER know which Rudy Gay is gonna show up–which is why Rudy can’t be the Leader of this team or any other–his gift is his curse, the game just comes waaay too easy to him, so he gets bored out there and makes the game harder than it ever needs to be. Hence in the locker room and everywhere else he’s been they say, “I thought that was Rudy Gay!? no I thought That was Rudy Gay?!” <<– Well folk's THAT is RUDY GAY…Feast or Famine.

    • Adriiian

Great comment man. Rap of the day right here.

      • KJ-B

        Gracias…

    • FAQ

… and he’s still worth every penny of his $195,000+ per game salary…. ya think?

    • What the

what i want to see from Rudy Gay is him passing the ball when he’s got like 8 guys on him ho-leee guy

  • Doc

Tross with a D+? Ya he was invisible cause he was on the bench. JV had 3 fouls in 18 min and how is it possible for him to get a lower score than Gay who went 1-11. These ratings make as much sense as Caseys substitution pattern.

  • Doc

Notice how Beal is coming on strong after sucking early in the year? Perhaps it is because even when he struggled he got consistent minutes and was not worried about being yanked everytime something went wrong.

    • DumbassKicker

Or perhaps it may have something to do with Beal and Ross being different people, on different teams that have different rosters and different goals. NBA ready players aren’t lego pieces that are made the same, at the same time, and fit together the same way.

    • ckh26

I was thinking about that last night as well. Beal good game or not last nite has the court presence of a bona fide NBA player and has graduated from rookie school.  Ross  has not yet graduated from school because he wasn’t allowed to go to class. You’ll hear a fair bit of crap of his hitting the rookie wall, game was too fast, diet not so good etc. As a thought 16 year old kids play 70 plus games in junior hockey and ride the bus to get to all their games and don’t wear out. So I am with the Doc that this is a failing of the organization to find the time to develop a player they made a very large investment in. The Raps are not rich enought in talent to just shelve this guy for a year.

  • Kevin

Hey. I think you made a mistake on Rudy Gay’s comments. You said “he grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 4 steals and swiped 4 steals”. I think you mean to say, “he grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and swiped 4 steals”.

    • FAQ

… and not a bad nights work for $195,000+ per game played …. ya think?

  • Dex613

    You forgot Alan Anderson

    • Doc

      Casey should forget Alan Anderson.

      • ad

Honestly fields is better than AA and caseys love affair with aa has to stop. When he is not hitting his shots, he is unwatchable. Fields is more of a facilitator on offense and they dont lose much d with him.

    • Sam Holako

I really didn’t; left him out on purpose.

  • DryDry

You can see Bargngingianginagini totally second guessing himself the nanosecond he catches the ball.

He doesn’t catch it ready to shoot he catches it ready to pass it away or back.

The guy’s in a deep deep shitty funk.

  • noBooze

Well done, mutts. You think booing one of there own players doesn’t mess with there heads? Think again. See,,, to the mutts who argue for the the booing,,, including the ones who passive-aggressively don’t argue against it (you know who you are) and call one of them (the very racist) primo pasta,,, you’re about to find out it’s a tricky, slippery slope. Starts with one player and before you know it,,, well, you can see it over the horizon, can’t you? Sure you can. If Kyrie & company kicks there sorry asses on Wednesday,,, and then the Pacers come in Friday with vengeance on there minds,,, well, the booing mutts have gotten a taste of being heard,,, and come Friday, if it goes the way it’s shaping up, it’s gonna get ugly. So in advance, mutts,,, congratulations. Instead of being the effective ‘sixth man’ on the floor,,, you’re about to become the fanbase that nobody wants to play for. Congratulations.

    Wizards rank 5th on Defense

It’s what they can do and they did,

Makes for ugly ball that worked tonight – they shut down a disinterested Rudy Gay and left DDR to score.

By the Way – If the Raps needed a hot hand to help out DDR they could have played Lucas in the fourth Q.

    Aromatic and Very very BROWN!!

    • FAQ

… and that’s why past stats are worthless between teams in lower standings… they are either GOOD, BAD, or BROWN.

    • FLUXLAND

As of today 29th in rebounding; Wizards 13th  – none of that other noise means squat.

Toronto WACKNESS: no rebounding, at all.

    • What the

they shut down Rudy and left demar to score well maybe it’s time to put Andrea Bargniani back in the starting line up as the 3rd option and JV comes off the bench but finishes games

  • FAQ

Jack Armstrong: “… a disjointed offense…”…..LOL …. and he avoided mentioning the absence of Calderon too.

Lowry and Lucas are shit… and if Telfair has half a brain, he can become the starting PG if he can run plays.

Lowry can’t run plays, make cuts without the ball and he is a lousy passer… typical of a fat streetballin’ ballhog…!!!!

    • Destro

Bassy will NEVER be the starting PG on an NBA team…

      • FAQ

Who said that the Ratpors are a NBA team?

  • Hound

There is absolutely no logic in these ratings. I am starting to think that RR is ran by MLSE. Rudy should get an F- or lower if it is possible. Not engaged, not productive, not mature and he is the $18 million dollar man. He shoots a shitty percentage, finally stopped turning it over only when he finally stopped passing. Bargs gets a worse grade than Gay, are you fucking kidding me? What game did you watch? You must be boxing out DC to be the first to kiss Rudy’s ass. Let’s call a spade a spade. Memphis is playing better without him, because they are a better TEAM without him. The contract was only part of the problem. Are we a better team with him? Sure, but at what cost?

The least the writers of this site should do is provide honest ,unbiased articles with some sense of integrity. Rudy Gay is supposed to be the MAN. He absolutely shits the bed and gets a C-. How fucking terrible would he have to play to get an F? You say at least he didn’t go 4-21. Well, I’ll let you in on something, I don’t think he would have hit 3 of his next 10! His shot selection and hero ball wouldn’t allow it. You say “At least he grabbed 6 rebounds”. He rebounded at the same rate per minute as Bargs. That is not something to be commended for.

Mr. Holako – You get an F!

    • FAQ

How about XXX for “obscene”…. LOL

    • Sam Holako

      Ouch!

The reason I gave Gay a C- was because he did other things that helped the team, namely creating scoring opportunities for his teammates when his shot wasn’t there, and playing defense (rebounds + steals). I was leaning to giving him a D+, but felt I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

I accept your grade of me, though; the game lulled me into a coma-like state I couldn’t shake afterwards.

      • Hound

Fair enough. Hopefully, you and the Raps will ramp up the intensity for the Cleveland game. Your simple admission of a coma-like state gives your report a regrade of C-.

        • Sam Holako

          LOL!

          I’ll pick it up

  • FAQ

Anybody notice DeMar running all over the floor to get his 25 points…. while Rudolph just stood there at the arc and in effect said “give me the fuckin’ ball here because I ain’t gonna run all over and tire myself for nothing”….??!!!!

  • Destro

NO but i saw him make shots and get to the line…..Rudy wasnt smart with the ball tonight and against a team he really should dominate….he settled for jumpers that werent falling,it happens…but it took too long for him to make the switch to trying to get to the rim off the dribble and even when he did that he was forcing shit that wasnt going to go down and into traffic….He didnt hit early and it turned into him forcing his shit and that isnt how you get out of shooting funks…

DeMar was working to get his 25 points while Rudolph was tossing bricks at the basket… soooo obvious.

You realize that you don’t need to read it, right?

      • Nilanka15

Isn’t it funny in today’s “something-for-nothing” society that people feel the need to complain about a free service?

  • Overthewall

Bargnani is always an F, enough said.  He is that garbage.
As for Gay, the lack of court vision and willingness to pass is going to kill this team.  I get it, you are score first, but you gotta have some balance.

    • FAQ

Wasn’t Rudolph the shoot-first SF ardently sought for by BC … and now he is certainly shooting first because his passing is poor.  Perhaps it’s because DC’s offensive sets are silly and Jonas, Amir and Bargs are not performing  well enough offensively to deserve set plays.

The only scoring threats on the TRats are DeMar, Rudolph and Kyle or Lucas… while the rest are scrubs.

      • Sig

4 assists from your SF is pretty good if you ask me. Rudy is a pretty good passer, plenty of times I’ve seen him make some nice set-up plays for his teammates when driving.

But other than that, you sure do a good job of pointing out the painfully obvious to the point where it’s unnecessary.

        • Hound

Seriously? 4 assists in 41 minutes. That is nothing special. 5 turnovers is brutal. A decent game is when the entire team has 10 T/O’s.

Rudy is not a good passer. His mother wouldn’t even agree with that statement.

  • tom

    “at least he wasn’t 4-21”

1-11 is a worse shooting percentage than 4-21 genius… I don’t know how Gay doesn’t get an F.  Seriously, his head was so far up his ass the first 3 quarters that he couldn’t even successfully make the easiest passes in basketball, let alone make a shot. Then all of a sudden at the start of the 4th, he turns on the “give a sh*t” switch and waltzes down the lane for an easy dunk.  Maybe if he gave a sh*t at any other point before that we could have beaten the worst road team in the NBA instead of getting humiliated at home after all this hype about us making a playoff run.  We might be starting to see another reason why Memphis shipped him out

    • FAQ

…. and why Houston disposed of Lowry so quickly…!!!

    • Sam Holako

I’d rather 1-11 than 4-21; 10 more missed shots would have made this an even less competitive game.

  • Ghost

I would love to get a talented pass first PG so our offense does look like crap and stagnates all the time.

C- ohh yeah – Gay went 1-for-11 from the field against the Wizards. That’s the worst field
goal percentage of his career in a game that he took at least 10 shots.

  • Guy

These grades are similar to many of the grades I’ve seen on this site in that they’re pure comedy.

Rudy Gay is a very good player, but tonight he was  horrible, absolutely horrible.  But according to the clown giving the grades,  a 9% shooting performance over 42 minutes doesn’t count nearly as much as almost getting as many steals(4) as turnovers(5).  Hence a C- .  Puhleasssse.  On the other hand, Landry Fields plays 5 minutes…FIVE…. & even though he was only a -2 on the night, apparently he did so much damage in that 5 minutes he deserves an F.  Holy shit……

I appreciate the fact not everyone sees things the same way, but the guy giving these grades has shown a stunning & complete lack of objectivity.

  • NyAlesund

When people and bloggers hate Bargnani…………….

Gay C- (1-11 from the field), 4 steals and 5 tournovers
    Johnson B- 8 points 13 rebs
    Bargnani D+ 8 points, 3 rebs

Sometime I think that you are judging the guys just watching the stats and not the game.

Someone has to explain me how is possible to give to AJohnson  B- when he was responsible for 5 consecutive points from Nenè (11 points total) than turned the game in Wizard’s favour.

6:24 Nenè jump over AJ 2 points
5:36 Nenè with reverse layup + foul 3 points

For once, if you were objective you have to admit that the subsitution between AJ and AB was bad. Nenè was inconsistent during the game (only 6 points, 2-9 from the field), but he got all the advantage to play against Amir down the stretch. Those 5 points killed us.

I am not against Amir that admire a lot but for once Bargs was entitled to stay in because, despite the numbers (not worst than his teammates), was contribuing to the team.

Of course blame him is the national sport, but it easy to see how that substitution changed the game.

Rudy Gay? Well he is this guy. Ups and downs. In one game he can score a lot with a good shot selection in others he can play really bad like tonight.

DD was the best on the floor followed by Lowry.

After the game against the Grizzlies , Arsenalist (rightfully IMO) gave Gay an F with this scoreline :
    Rudy Gay, SF 39 MIN | 5-15 FG | 1-2 FT | 9 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 5 TO | 13 PTS | -5

How can you give him C- with this ?
    42 MIN | 1-11 FG | 5-6 FT | 6 REB | 4 AST | 4 STL | 1 BLK | 5 TO | 7 PTS | -3

By doing this you’re making him look like a mediocre player .

I also would like to know how you can evaluate a guy like Fields or Ross after playing 5min (and give Landry an F , come on …)
I do agree though with your other grades
