The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they have waived forward Linas Kleiza and designated him as the team’s amnesty player under rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Blake wrote something about this earlier today, so go have a read of what this means.

Official release:

The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they have waived forward Linas Kleiza and designated him as the team’s amnesty player under rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. “We thank Linas for his contributions as a Raptor and wish him all the best,” said Raptors President and General Manager, Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri.

Now, do the Raptors save money if a European team hires him?

    • tross_31

Only if an NBA team signs him, do the Raptors not pay that part of the salary (i.e., the bid). Works same as waivers. If non-NBA team picks him up, Raps continue to play full salary.

How many games did he play for us over the past 3 years ?? All that money !!! The Sad part is that he is not even the top 2 worst contracts that BC handed out …

I remember some Kleiza moments like:
One time in the 2012/13 season when he went off on a three point tear that allowed the Raptors to dominate their competition. JV was on the bench and his face was glowing with pride for his fellow country man.
In the past I remember LK standing up to physical intimidation by NBA “big men” who tried to impose their will in the paint. He pushed back hard and then laughed in their faces when they trash talked him. I was left with the impression that Linus Kleiza could look after himself in the alley. It was Con Smythe who said that you can’t beat ’em on the ice if you can’t beat ’em in the alley.
Thanks for the memories Linus Kleiza – enjoy your European Vacation.

On a similar news, Gooden was also amnestied by the Bucks. I remember when BC signed Johnson to his contract and BC fans were using Gooden and Thomas’s contracts as a going rate and how based on those contracts, what Amir is getting paid is fair … :) Well, it turned out both have become such a bad contracts that need to have the amnesty clause used by their respected team.

    • The Truth

So tell me, do you think Amir is being overpaid?

  • The Truth

Doug Smith seems to hate it so smells like a good move to me.
