The jerseys for these two look VERY similar (minus the American-blue one of course). Good job guys, but FIERCE did a GREAT job on those logos. (keep the Raptors name mlse! we don’t turn our backs on our teams!)

    • http://www.wearingfilm.com/picketfence/ Tim W.

Changing the name isn’t turning your back on the team. It’s changing the name.

      • #Raptors4Life

Then go make “Huskies Republic” then… This is RAPTOR country! We bleed Red! Take the Huskie around back and put him down!

        • http://www.wearingfilm.com/picketfence/ Tim W.

We all bleed red because we’re human.

I’m a fan of the team. Not the team name, or the arena they play at, or who’s in charge of the team, or even who’s on the team. All those things can change and I will still be a fan of the team. I would just rather the team have a more grown up sounding name.

If the team name changed, would you still be a fan? Because even though I don’t like the current name, I’m still a fan.

          • Ion66

Just be thankful we don’t have any pelicans on Lake Ontario!!

            • http://www.wearingfilm.com/picketfence/ Tim W.

              This is true. Or wizards.

              • Ion66

Or wizard pelicans, although, that would be kind of awesome.

              • SR

It would make sense to also be the Lakers. (The CFL was always fine with this kind of thing.) The mascot would be a police diver dragging a plastic garbage bag filled with unidentified materials. He could reach in the bag and throw _______ all over the fans to get them riled up. The alternate logo would be a container ship bottoming out on sandbar, with an empty beach in the background. You could even have a pelican in there somewhere with some plastic trash tangled around its neck. Win-win!

      • Ion66

A Raptor by any other name would smell as sweet?

        • Lucas

I dig the Shakespearean reference, but I have my doubts about how a raptor would have smelled. Sweet? I think not…

  • Lucas

Looks like the finals will be a bit of a referendum on the name change.

I’m a little surprised that folks have been able to make changes and additions to their submissions — that’s a bit unfair to folks who didn’t make it this far into the contest.

In any case, these two entries both look great now! From JT II, I like the collar, the extra detail in the claw logo, the T.O. logo, and the city jersey. I dislike the font used on the front of the jersey, and the stripes on the side.

For Fierce, I love the font, and I like the jerseys and the updated logo. I dislike most of the alternate marks/logos, as I find that they take away from the branding — I say submit whichever you think is the best one, and maybe one alternate without the name, that’s it. In my opinion the best ones are the one with the team name and the centre court one anyway, so the rest seem unnecessary.

Overall, great job, and with the additions to the JT II submission I think it will be a photo finish on this one. My vote goes to Fierce, by a hair!

  • Nilanka15

Very tough decision. Wish I could vote for both.

  • Shadow Of Christ

The finals came early as these are the 2 best designs in the whole competition! I’m completely torn… Fierce sports the better logo and a clean jersey look… JT II has added 2 new jersey designs, Home 2 and Throwback purple (love them both)! As it stands, they are equal… I don’t know how to vote =$ If Fierce’s logos were apart of JT II’s jerseys, it would be a rap!

    • Lucas

It’s kind of funny, this contest could turn out much like this season (and the last 2 seasons): with the ECF deciding the champion (although, to be fair, the Spurs did only lose by the faintest of margins).

      • http://www.wearingfilm.com/picketfence/ Tim W.

I don’t think you can say the ECF decided the Championship in the least, this year. The Spurs would have beaten the Pacers. And I’m guessing it wouldn’t have gone to 7 games. Probably 5.

        • Lucas

Fair point, but hard to say, really. Yes, the Spurs are a well-oiled machine. But they were able to really exploit Miami’s weakness inside; the Pacers lack that weakness.

I actually think the Pacers are better constructed to beat the Spurs than Miami is. There’s always a chance we get to find out this year!

          • http://www.wearingfilm.com/picketfence/ Tim W.

Remember the Pacers only won 49 games last season. The reason they took Miami to 7 games is because they were exactly the type of team the Heat have trouble with. You think the Spurs would have lost two games each to the Hawks and Knicks?

And the Spurs beat Memphis handily, and they’re constructed very similarly to the Pacers.

The Spurs had the third best record in the league, and that was in the tougher Western Conference, they had one of the best offenses in the league AND one of the best defenses. Indiana had a great defense, but like Memphis, their offense wasn’t great. And they wouldn’t have the size advantage over the Spurs like they had over the Heat. And because they’re a big team, the Spurs can play more Splitter and Duncan together, which is when the Spurs defense is at it’s best.

If Fierce’s logos were apart of JT II’s jerseys, it would be a rap!

  • arsenalist

Very tough call today. I just love that fourth logo for Fierce.

  • gametime

I just hope one of our designs knocks out the Huskies so that the Raptors name is the champion; good job Joey, I think we did the Raps proud with our ideas!

    • Kombat99

You both did great. Your FIERCE logos were the gem of the contest so be proud you were the only person to make the Semi’s without having multiple entries competing like Simon & JT (no disrespect intended to their work) #brightside

      • gametime

Thx! And I thought we were only allowed 1 submission so I chose FIERCE from the 3 I have (I had another fir Raptors and one for Huskies too). Glad you guys liked FIERCE! :)

        • Ion66

Got a link to pics of the other work? Any fierce Huskies?

          • gametime

Thanks. You can check out the full updated sneak peak at this link for now: http://bit.ly/1e9OuLZ

  • brandon

    there both really good

  • brandon

JT II has the better jersey in my opinion, but Fierce court design, team logo and court design look much more intimidating and thats always good, but if i had to pick one i pick JT II, seriously hope the organization busts out that alternate skyline jersey, that’s bomb

    • Ion66

All it needs is about a dozen construction cranes and it’s gold.

  • Ion66

Really a coin toss for me on this one. I’m a professional artist, and both are really well done. It’s really between going mature and classy, or all in on the “Raptor” image. The part of me that’s in my mid 40’s says JT2 is classy and mature, but would kids like it? The part of me that’s still the age I was when the Raps first appeared, says the logo’s for Fierce are brilliant and would be a hit with younger audiences, while still appealing to adults. That’s a tough balance right there, so good work on that. I like the skyline, but then wonder if that works with the brand as “Canada’s” team, given that most Canadians outside of Toronto hate Toronto? I’m so confused! Whoever loses this one, is just as deserving of the win. Given that I see different appeal to different age groups, I wonder what our demographic is, here in Raps Republic? Will that sway the vote within our little world here?

  • Ion66

I’m still amazed that nobody did a design for “Toronto Traffic”. “Our defence will stop you like 3-7 pm on the DVP!!!”

  • Sprechen

You’ve got to be kidding me! How is JTII even in the conference final, let alone winning this round? The logo work on fierce is legit (though there does need to be a tweak on the proportions of the neck and head of the Raptor on the two logos on the left). By the way, the Raptors don’t play games on Canada Day (it’s July 1st for those of you who aren’t aware) and our flag doesn’t have any blue on it. The watermark effect is rendered useless/muddy/confused (take your pick or add your own adjective) by slapping an Atari font number smack in the middle of it. Also, the entry should not be allowed to have been altered at the end of the competition in fairness to the other competitors, and should thus be disallowed. There’s an added jersey and additional logo work, etc, etc. Another mediocre decision meted out by democracy.

    • wannasuggit

You do realize that fierce’s logos were altered plenty of times as well? Both of these entries were altered quite a bit.

      y u mad bro

      • Lucas

To be fair, though, JT II was altered significantly more, which I also don’t think is fair.

        • wannasuggit

LOL you can’t be serious. JT added 2 more jerseys and some presentation of the uniforms on players. Fierce altered his court twice and his logos 4 times.

          quit crying

          • Lucas

As this contest has shown us, presentation is a HUGE component to this process (just ask the Paw Ball fans). So to go from jerseys only to more jerseys, two logos (you seemed to forget about those), some sweet looking illistrations, and a back-story is a HUGE improvement.

Also, such additions are far more significan’t than modifications, which is mainly what fierce did.

Oh, and grow up: not everyone disagreeing with you or criticizing a system is crying. I know I wish a LOT more people would criticize Western societies’ governmental and financial systems.

            • wannasuggit

They both were able to make adjustments lol fair and square, don’t get all technical of who made “greater” improvements. This was a fun contest, people who are getting all technical and complaining are actually cry guys.

    • http://www.wearingfilm.com/picketfence/ Tim W.

See, the difference is that I’m not voting for the most polished, print-ready work. I’m voting for the IDEA that I like best. If the logo or whatever needs a bit of work, that doesn’t matter to me because it’s the general idea that I’m voting for.

If we were voting for best work, overall, then Fierce would have been my choice from the beginning. I thought he did an absolutely fantastic job, and if I were hiring a graphic artist, it would be a great piece for the portfolio. But that’s not what this is about. Personally, I want to get away from the Jurassic Park dinosaur look, and I like a simpler design, which is why I voted for JT II.

  • Teepo

That claw-mark “T” in the fierce design is magnificent. It’s my favorite design in the whole competition.

    • gametime

Good stuff. Keep an eye on the forum for when I order in the next batch of caps for everyone!

  • Sprechen

It’s funny no one made any rebuttals to my actual design criticisms, rather they focused on the alterations portion of my statement (I hadn’t noticed the Fierce alterations, they must have been subtle and earlier on in the competition. It seemed like once it hit the conference final, JTII was a largely different entry). I will interpret the silence as agreement.

    • Kombat99

The mods won’t do a proper finals between FIERCE and JTii though, but I, like so many of you have posted since seeing the update he’s given the public a sneak peak of (http://bit.ly/1e9OuLZ), think we need to support this guy and get MLSE on board (really creative!)

      • gametime

Much appreciated! Glad you guys like it!
