Toronto Raptors 100 Final
Recap | Box Score
102 Cleveland Cavaliers
Amir Johnson, PF Shot Chart 34 MIN | 6-9 FG | 0-0 FT | 9 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 2 BLK | 0 TO | 12 PTS | -6

Very slow to rotate against cutting guards which took the shine away from his stellar pick ‘n roll play. He was guarding Hawes who was playing outside-in against him, and Johnson struggled to cope. Defensively, he was a step behind the entire game and part of it has to do with, once again, giving up bulk in his matchups.

Terrence Ross, SF Shot Chart 32 MIN | 5-12 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 16 PTS | -6

Was torn apart by Waiters in 1v1 situations; made some amends by hitting a few threes in the second quarter which made this a closer game heading into the half, but overall, has to feel disappointed that he fell short in an athletic-vs-athletic matchup.

Jonas Valanciunas, C Shot Chart 18 MIN | 2-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | -27

Total stinker where he was absent on defense and a void on offense. The Raptors didn’t give him his requisite touches, but he shouldn’t need those to be a factor night in and night out. Picked up a silly foul where he slapped someone across the face on a rebound, which sent him to the bench. Most disappointing for me was his help defense – much like Johnson, slow to recognize cuts, and even slower to react to them. Got benched for a long period in the second half in favor of Hayes, can’t say it wasn’t deserved.

Kyle Lowry, PG Shot Chart 34 MIN | 8-18 FG | 3-7 FT | 5 REB | 10 AST | 3 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 22 PTS | 0

Slow first half and got shot over by Jack on a number of occasions but led the Raptors charge in the third quarter. Went off injured and came back to play, and it’s safe to say without him this is a 25-point blowout in favor of the Cavs. What a player.

DeMar DeRozan, SG Shot Chart 38 MIN | 5-16 FG | 3-7 FT | 3 REB | 8 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 13 PTS | -3

Torched by Deng in the first half which built Cleveland’s momentum. Was never around defensively for this game which was frustrating because the team was counting on someone to provide a spark and he sat idly by. If a defender is pressuring him, he needs to find a way to get into the paint and release a higher percentage shot, not just go around the screen and into the top of the key area, which is when the long-two rears its ugly head. Choked at the FT line with the team down three and 8 seconds left, which was expected give his ugly offensive game. Had some assists, but we need more than that from him.

Tyler Hansbrough, PF Shot Chart 9 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-2 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -7

Casey felt that he couldn’t rely on Hansbrough against the more agile Cleveland bigs. I can’t blame him, although I would’ve loved to see Tyler knee Varejao in the groin.

Chuck Hayes, PF Shot Chart 15 MIN | 2-4 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 6 PTS | +17

Not terrible, but not good either. He’s so lacking in skill that you can’t even bother passing him the ball on offense, lest he make a muck of it. He’s best used for clean-up duty around the rim, which he did reasonably well, but ideally we would’ve liked to have someone who could bring some shot-blocking and help defense rather than a warm body that clogs the paint.

John Salmons, SF Shot Chart 14 MIN | 1-4 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 5 PTS | -1

Showed some signs of recovering from his OKC-blunder, but for me, he should not have played a minute ahead of Nando de Colo in this game.

Steve Novak, SF Shot Chart 17 MIN | 1-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 3 PTS | +21

Hit a huge three in the third, but missed an even bigger one in the fourth which would’ve cut it to one. Played better defense on Deng than DeRozan did, which bumps up his grade.

Greivis Vasquez, PG Shot Chart 24 MIN | 4-13 FG | 4-4 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 16 PTS | +5

Lowry’s partner in bringing the Raptors back via the threes and the floaters, but when he’s shooting on first opportunity as he was today, it’s a sign that the offense is broken. Had the last play run for him and ran into Jack and turned it over. Completely out of control, I don’t buy the “he turned his ankle” nonsense.

Nando de Colo, PG Shot Chart 5 MIN | 1-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 3 PTS | -3

After bringing much-needed energy and movement in the first half, he was chained to the bench in the second. I have no idea why.

Landry Fields, SF Shot Chart DNP COACH’S DECISION MIN | FG | FT | REB | AST | STL | BLK | TO | PTS |

I kind of feel he could’ve been useful, guess we’ll never know.

Dwane Casey

Surprised to see lack of zone against Cleveland, thought the Cavs would’ve struggled to beat us from outside. The absence of de Colo was mystifying. Kudos to stifling Cleveland’s inbound play twice to get the ball back with 8 seconds left, however, not giving Lowry the ball with the game on the line is a horrible decision.

Five Things We Saw

  1. Raptors missed 10 FTs in this game, which ultimately cost them.
  2. Cleveland was very aggressive on offense, cutting to the rim on every occasion in the first half and the Raptors defense wasn’t communicative enough to respond. The Raptors bigs provided no cover against Waiters or Deng, which buoyed Cleveland. With every passing game I realize just how much we miss Patrick Patterson.
  3. Dion Waiters was 10-16 in this game, continuing his hot streak of late. Ross, supposedly a “defensive guy” let him run all over him. The Raptors were -13 on the glass, which the Cavs converted to a tidy Raptors 12-5 advantage in fastbreak points.
  4. For the majority of this game, we saw the pre-Rudy Gay trade Raptors which is concerning. Defensively, we were absent as Cleveland shot 58% through the first three quarters and it was hard to watch.
  5. Lowry is the chief reason this was even a game, without him the fourth quarter is nothing but garbage time.

  • DXNNYVΣGΛ

Just when I started to believe in Casey. Smh. We CANNOT lose the next 3 games. IMO, we’re getting the 4th seed and might pull off the Atlantic by one game.

  • Chewwy No Matthew

Getting off to horrible starts are catching up. Still waiting for Casey to draw up some sort of play to win a game. DeRozan was awful tonight. Leaders/all stars make open shots. Leaders/all stars make free throws. At least we have another game tomorrow to forget about this

    • age

DeRozan looks tired. He missed way too many free throws – him and lowry – and he didn’t initiate contact on his jump shots. This is a big reason why we need Patterson back soon. Lowry and DeRozan can’t do everything every night.
-Ross is scared to take contact
-JV sleeps 1 of 3 games
-Amir’s body can only take so much damage
-Which is left for Vasquez to be the 3rd highest scorer on the team. Its not a healthy scenario.
-2Pat’s points and rebounds are sorely needed

  • Musik

Feels like its come to the point where the other teams just has to wait for the raptors to shoot themselves in the foot. Say goodbye to the atlantic division title if they are going to continue to give away winnable games like this.

  • DXNNYVΣGΛ

We’re too close to throw it all away. Patrick Patterson is desperately needed right now. AND WHY ISNT FIELDS BEING PLAYED?

    • FREEJV

      cuz salmons “plays defense”

      • Demar <3

I honestly think Fields can play just as good defense as him if not better!

        • FREEJV

yea he can but salmons is “a veteran” who “knows everything”

          • Demar <3

            #CaseyLogic ^^^^

I like DC alot but sometimes he make very dumb moves, Play Fields were not paying him millions of dollars to watch when he’s completely healthy. Fields played great when TROSS got hurt, why not try to play him again

            • MoPeteRules

i swear, landry must have hooked up with casey’s wife! sucks that de colo doesn’t even get much time either, especially considering the guy we traded for him dropped 22 for the spurs yesterday lol

              • FREEJV

wow austin daye was 6-10 from 3. just goes to show how bad a coach casey is and how good a coach pop is. could ve used that scoring in the 2nd unit but too late now. same with augustin

                • Louvens Remy

We all knew this would happen. There is a long list of freaking “shit” players that Pop knows what to do with.

                • FREEJV

how do we know if a player is shit or not if he never gets any playing time. thats the biggest problem with casey. he never gives a chance to the 13th 14 th 15th guys on the team

                • Louvens Remy

Well you know, generally speaking. I always liked Austin Daye. I just don’t understand how you don’t figure out how to use players. Fields is just rotting on the bench. He can atleast do some of the freakin things Salmons does…

                • FREEJV

actually he can do everything salmons does. they both cant shoot so theres that too.

                • bobmasa

Agreed and this is the biggest problem of Casey he bench players when the go to other teams they turn to be good

                • Cheezy

Dwane Casey may be the best defensive coordinator in the NBA. However, he fails to draw up a single play on O. My highschool team ran better set plays than his FTW clutch Demar isos.

                • FREEJV

no thibodeau>casey when it comes to defense. also frank vogel>casey

                • Guest

Austin Daye is awful. 29 other teams wouldn’t get anything out of him either.

                • FREEJV

watch out guys we got a scout on our hands

      • asifyouknow

Free JV I still have hope for you….good post..

    • ad

patrick patterson is nice bench piece but he is by no means the savior for this team and I dont think he would have made a difference with the way they came out. Whats with all these fans thinking patterson is that much of a difference maker. He is no all star.

      • Abused Raptors Fan

It has less to do with his talent level and more to do with how he fits with this team. With our lack of depth up front, pattersons absence dramatically reduces our margin for error. Even if both JV and Amir are playing well, we still need someone to come in off the bench and play 25-30 minutes. And when we play teams with mobile, athletic or lengthy bigs, Hayes and Hansbrough are often close to useless. He also provides floor spacing, which Derozan and Lowry need in particular, especially in late game driving situations where he creates driving lanes and servers as a pressure release in case the ballhandler gets cut off. Finally, Casey’s preference for keeping JV out of late game situations is biting him in the ass, as now, when he really JV to execute late in games the kid has no confidence or experience in those situations.

    • asifyouknow

You are one of the few here who actually makes sense …lol

    • Cheezy

I hate Casey for not playing Fields. He’s the perfect guy to come in for Demar or Ross late in the first or early in the 2nd. His ability to cut is perfect with the 2 pg situation, and that game he started when Ross was out, Fields played within his game, went like 4-5??????? Rebounded, helped on D, and moved the ball around the perimeter. Casey needs to give him a chance!

  • FREEJV

lol Jv gets an F and Demar who lost the game for us gets a D. What a joke

    • Jeffrey Yau

Name three (positive) things that JV did that game

      • FREEJV

name 3 positive things demar did?

        • Quest

          8 assists

          • Chewwy No Matthew

JV is not an all star, Demar is. JV is not considered one of our leaders/go to guys, DeMar is. Bottom line is that DeMar cannot shoot under 50% from the free throw line in game. He needed to hit that pair late and he didn’t. Yes he deserves an F especially because he is expected to do more

          • FREEJV

…his assist to air ball ratio was too low. 4:1 ……

        • balls deep

          Brick, air ball, turnover.
          then repeat

          • FREEJV

well those 3 happen every game so no surprise there.

      • Da Man

        1. Won a jumpball
        2. Scored a basket
        3. Scored another basket

      • casey good defence

Why? They both sucked but jv gets penalized the most by the coach

        • FREEJV

yea also JV played 18 mins . wtf you expect him to do with 18 minutes. if demar ever got 18 minutes he would go cry to his mommy.

          • jjdynomite

Okay, okay, we know you have a hard-on for the Lithuanian, but JV was a -27 in 18 minutes. That’s pretty impressive in its horribleness. Look, no Raptors fan dislikes Jonas — he simply shat the bed tonight — so why are you defending the indefensible? It just makes your other comments and opinions appear worthless. Because of this sort of comment pollution, I’m pretty close to actively skipping over posts that begin with “FREEJV”.

            • FREEJV

noone asked you to read my stuff anyways so i really dont care lmao. #clown #suckoffderozan

Oh you just got worked guy. Sit down.

                • FREEJV

oh you re still on my dick guy. dont sit down get off it. #dickmuncher

    • DDayLewis

D- is the closest grade possible to F

      • FREEJV

well he deserves a Z then

        • DDayLewis

          Your sentiment is noted

    • JRedmond14

Why do you even cheer for the Raps? You might as well just watch JV highlights rather than bitch after every single game. Grow a pair and take the loss or GTFO

      • FREEJV

oooohhhh internet tough guy over here. come at me bro looool

        • JRedmond14

Good reply. You know your wrong but you can’t admit it. Keep trolling though if it makes every other day in your life a little success

          • FREEJV

wrong about what? lol wtf wrong with you clown go live in your mamas basement

            • JRedmond14

Did JV do anything useful tonight? I watched the whole game and I couldn’t tell he was on half the time. That is why he got an F. Did DeRozan do anything useful tonight? Yes he did. He had the same amount of rebounds as JV. He didn’t shoot a great percentage but neither did the whole team. Incase you missed it he had 8 assists, so when his shot wasn’t falling he made plays for others. In summary, the writer was actually harder on DeRozan than he was on JV. Sorry your man crush didn’t play well tonight though. Try to some intelligence sometimes bud.

              • FREEJV

looool you re the biggest dumbass on here. demar played 38 fuckin minutes and he only had 3 rebounds gtfo here clown.

                • JRedmond14

JV also is standing under the hoop the whole time. I would hope centers get more rebounds than one every 6 minutes. Honestly, is that your best response though?

                • FREEJV

i would expect for someone who has the ball every possession to get more than 13 points. argument closed. also 3rebounds in 38 minutes is just brutal no matter what position you play. bye

  • FREEJV

Demar and Vasquez combined for 9-29. there is your game right there. Derozan needs to stop coming out all non chalant thinking hes Kobe or something he has to bring some heart.

  • Chewwy No Matthew

Leo Rautins has sewn up his status as biggest moron of a commentator. Two glaring mistakes where he still tries to justify his mess up.
    1) De Colo hustles back and cleanly blocks Waiters lay up yet Leo seems to see arm contact that nobody else sees.
    2) Vasquez did not turn his ankle. The only thing hurt on Vasquez is his pride as he was completely out of control. Replays do not show the ankle turing Leo. It shows a flat footed off balance Vasquez getting caught by Jarrett Jack taking a quick step back to not allow him to lean on him.

I miss Jack Armstrong who has not shied away from telling it like it is. Leo is brutal

    • FREEJV

leo is ways gonna be bad just have to get used to it

      • Chewwy No Matthew

True but he still is awesome at getting you to shake your head a couple of times a game.

        • FREEJV

i dont even pay attention to him anymore cuz everything he says contradicts what he said the previous time

    • Mexiballer

I watched the replay three times. Vasquez was completely flat footed and only decided to grab his ankle after lying down for a few seconds while watching the end of the play. And then he pretended to limp afterwards as he walked away. Pretty bad. And embarrassing if your a Raptor.

      • FREEJV

you should ve seen shaq on inside the nba just smirking after the highlights of the game were done

    • Kovalainnen

Maybe he’s brutal, but i can’t imagine any worse than Cleveland’s feed yesterday… They saw that De Colo contact on a Waiters hand, man.. they saw much more crap and commented it with their extremely annoying voice! Listening to Leo’s voice is like listening to a beautiful song compared with those guys…

    • FREEJV

lol Shaq was laughing at vasquez on inside the nba for acting like he hurt his ankle. thats when you know you re bad

  • Niagara_dude

This team has been falling apart since Paterson has been out, he gives them defence and scoring off the bench.I think he could play but because he does not have contract beyond this year his agent has advised him to sit until 100%.Too bad because you have a guy like Amir who is playing on one leg and Lowry with a groin problem.I also think it is time Casey give Fields some playing time.

    • jjdynomite

You know PP’s agent?! He probably doesn’t appreciate you calling his client “Paterson”.

      • noname

you know business logic? guess not since you didn’t realize the fact that he actually made sense.

    • Abused Raptors Fan

Patterson has been cleared for 5 on 5 scrims, so he should be back soon. Also, the fact that the teams doctors just cleared him kinda disproves your assumption. However, I had wondered if his contract status wasn’t having some influence. Then again, I’m sure he’d rather finish the year strong

    • JRedmond14

The ligament that Patterson hurt is the one that baseball players get Tommy John surgery on by pitching through the pain. If he had to have that surgery he would be out almost a year. Rather than rushing back to win a couple games and have possible reinjury, I will take him healthy in the playoffs when it matters

  • balls deep

Another brick fest by Demar, how much longer till Casey realizes he can not be trusted in the clutch. He doesn’t even know how to dribble. And can someone move Casey’s 4th quarter comeback speech to the start of the game cause that first quarter was dreadful to watch.

  • DXNNYVΣGΛ

Dwane Casey, the only man to complain and whine about how damaged his stars are but completely ignores the 3 fresh players on his bench lollllll

    • Chewwy No Matthew

Totally agree. De Colo played great in his 5 minute run and never saw the floor again. Fields should be getting at least a few minutes to show what he’s got.

      • Adriiian

Gotta say it’s a mystery why he isn’t playing Fields. He must be seeing something in practice… I trust Casey, he sees these guys play everyday, practice everyday.
But yeah, who knows man? I forget Fields is on the team half the time without the commercials.

        • FREEJV

i think casey is jealous of Landrys contract and wife. thats the only reason i can think of

          • Adriiian

yeah. i think he can get plenty of pussy himself man. the “dashingly handsome” dwane casey. LOOOOOL @ Drake

  • FREEJV

Demar s new nickname should be “mr coolguy” coming out all non chalant every game. Bring some fuckin heart and intensity .

    • Matt

Demar does not have an intense demeanor or a killer instinct mentality which is something he has needed to improve since USC. That being said he definetly earns his contract and has a spot on a winning team if he doesn’t need to be that guy who scores in crunch time. He has improved his game every year and will continue to do so. Some ppl on this site just have unrealistic expectations of him. I get frustrated by him too but he isn’t our next Vince and Ross isn’t either. He’s a guy that can help you win but not put the team on his back it’s as simple as that.

  • Niagara_dude

Coach better get this ready to start the game in Boston and that means drive to basket and never mind with Demar trying to dribble through the whole team and take a last sec contested shot. This is what has been going on to start games the past couple of weeks and we get ourselves in huge holes.Drive to basket and never mind with jump shots

  • Maks

Hey first of all I want to thank the RR staff for always putting the effort in giving us recaps and educating us on plays. This is hands down the best raptors blog on the internet right now.

Not back to the raptors… i don’t know why, but i always think demar is a choker. Hes been missing the first free throw and hitting the second one in the clutch since forever (i know this wasn’t the reason we lost today). he always loses the balls with his handles especially in close games. However, casey keeps going back to him every single game. I’m just wondering if the decision to set up the pay is usually in the hands of casey or the assistant coaches. Even during the last possession that Vasquez lost the ball, in the replays it seemed like vasquez was supposed to kick it out to demar for either a midrange jumper or a drive.

It would be awesome if the RR staff can ever write an article and analyze the tendencies of the raptors during late game situations. Itll also be interesting if anyone can ever find stats about demars percentages for FG and turnovers during the clutch.

  • Chewwy No Matthew

Here is what bothers me about Casey, amongst many other things. Your team is getting off to bad starts and your subs are playing like crap in the first and second quarter. So why not give guys who will be hungry a run like Fields or De Colo. Oh wait, De Colo played well in his 5 minute stint, including a terrible foul call off of a clean block and yet never sees the floor again. Fields is a good defender. At the very least give it a shot. WOW

    • bobmasa

Casey realy hates Fields and play De Colo with no choice,he prefer Salmon who is the worse player in this NBA season, if Casey dosnt change his rotation and be logic I believe everyone is gonna shit on us during this playoffs. I dont think Masai Ujiri will risk his job and his
reputation by keeping someone like Dwen Casey..

      • Chewwy No Matthew

There was no reason for De Colo not to get at least one more run in this game. He deserved it

  • Icarus Descending

Sloppy d and terrible free throw shooting. Only reason it was this close was the combination of great three ball % and Lowry ( aka Mr. 4th qtr).

    Patterson is sorely missed.

  • FREEJV

send salmons and greivis back to sacramento. they cost us our last 2 losses. but demar did help a little with his lack of effort tonight

  • Niagara_dude

The only time Demar found any success was when he was driving to basket, if they go into Boston with this plan (jump shots) they will lose again.Rondo will carve them up with straight line drives, need to start with some energy Wed

  • Chewwy No Matthew

Last play of the game and he has Lowry nowhere near the play to handle the ball with 8 seconds left. Lowry is the heart and soul of this team and by far the biggest threat on the team to make or set up a basket to tie or win the game. Lowry was the one who hit the tie breaker against OKC yet Casey seems to think somebody else would be better suited for this. Pathetic call

  • Aaron

Even though ross has been a stinker of a player the past while i think Its time to consider making him the full time SG not SF starting next year. Before all you raptors fans say oh Derozen had one bad game and your turning on him. Derozen puts up empty stats and is such a negative on defence. Sure ross has been bad there too but he gets pulled after a couple of mistakes every game so of course he will be inconsistent. But a player like Kevin Love might be abtainable this offseason if he truely wants out of Minny. Derozen our 2014 first and 2016 first plus a couple a seconds might do it. And before all of you say Love will leave anyways. Maybe not. He wants to win and if Lowry stays and we continue our success next year with an actual superstar he may stay. Ok my rant is over lol

    • FREEJV

actually derozans been stinking it up ever since he got in the allstar game. I ve always said package him and Amir for a top 5 pick if anyones willing to which i doubt

      • Aaron

Either a top 5 pick or kevin love. I want a superstar! Even just for a couple seasons :(

        • Chewwy No Matthew

I would love to have Kevin Love, but it will never happen unfortunately.

          • Aaron

Its actually very possible if MU really wants a superstar.

          • FREEJV

demar and Amir For love would work in my opinion but After his contracts done Loves going to the lakers.

        • noname

throw away the long term future? thank god you guys are not GMs. Demar has many flaws in his game, this is true. But he is young, on a good contract, doesn’t have that much of an ego, and is a hard worker. you just gotta know that it’s only going to get better from here. Mark my words next season demar will be even better than he is now. However, i do agree with switching Ross to sg but i think that demar should then move up to the 3 spot. The only reason why this makes sense is because ross is too small to play the 3 and you can tell it’s causing him problems on both ends of the floor. Moving derozan to the 3 will make him guard tougher players thus forcing him to really try hard on defence and really work on it that much more. I think it’s a win-win.

          • Aaron

Demar guarding 3’s is a very very very very bad idea. Dude cant defend at all

          • FREEJV

Novak did a better job guarding Deng than Demar. stop it….

          • FREEJV

btw Demars like 24 or something like that so its not like hes 19 or 20 years old. his improvement from here on will be little its been 5 years for him. thats why i like Ross’s potential more. Hes 23 but been in nba for 2 years and he can already defemd shoot and dribble better than demar

          • Abused Raptors Fan

Here’s the thing though, if they really want to get something outta DD, they need to do it soon, as BC inexplicitly gave him a player option for the last year of hos contract. Wed get a lot more for him if the team getting him doesn’t have to worry about hin possibly leaving the next season (see Gay, Rudy). And let’s be honest, if DD keeps playing like he has this season, someone’s bound to pay him more than 9.5mil a year

  • DXNNYVΣGΛ

Toronto is like the only team that doesn’t try D-Leaguers. If you’re not going to use Buycks and Stone send them down, pick up a defensive big man and a 3pt specialist. But noooooo. I think we’ll split these last 12 games. Sorry for the ranting but I don’t understand what is going on right now…

    • Tanks-a-lot

Just enjoy the season and playoffs that were not really expected.
It’s Masai’s problem to try to replicate the success going forward

    • CJT

Even if they are sent down to the D league, they are still under contract to the Raptors and do not give up their spot on the roster I believe. You can’t replace them with other players. You would have to release them.

  • asifyouknow

Just got done watching the play in slow-mo. It actually looked like a good play, Vaz to kick out to DeMar or Novak, as soon as Vaz make the turn and planted his foot it turned and gave in, there really was not much of a slip, but unfortunately it was his right foot, the surgery wheel.

For the Greivis Vasquez haters on this site you can start celebrating, cause I think he got hurt. it’s a shame I know how hard this guy has worked to become an NBA player, just a great guy well liked by his teammates.
    Rejoice haters ..rejoice

And deficiently not a YOLO as some folks like to characterize him.

Good thing you got DeColo playing some.

Again this guys fought in the second half. They always go down fighting…

    • FREEJV

he YOLO ed it again tonight. 4-13.

      • Aaron

as much as Grevis makes me cringe sometimes this game and his shooting was not his fault. Lack of movement from teamates and playing with chuck hayes will fuck the offence up no matter what

    • Chewwy No Matthew

Vaz was out of control. Bottom line, it should be Lowry with the ball, not anybody else. I am not a Vasquez hater but he messed up big time. Once Jarrett Jack took away allowing Vasquez to lean on him, it was done. Also, Vasquez likes to use his floater coming from the left going right so once he had it coming from the right going left, everybody knew the floater wasn’t coming. This cut’s down the options. De Colo should have played more

      • asifyouknow

You are a Sargent on the haters army, so please.,,,lol,,, I think you will get your wish ,,the guy got hurt…By the way he brought them back to get a shot that is why Casey rewarded him by playing him the fourth quarter…But hey by reading your comments I know you are Mr, Knowitall nothing wrong with that name, mine is ASIFYOUKNOW,,…just saying…

        • Chewwy No Matthew

Just because you are the leader of the Vasquez does nothing wrong club, doesn’t make the rest of us a hater. Obviously, as I have said before, you cannot be realistic when it comes to making any comments on him. The last possession was terrible. He was out of control and made a bad decision.

          • CJT

As many times as Demar has dribbled it off of his ankle in crunch time, at least he has never sprained or pretended to sprain his ankle on a turn over. Too bad GV has been giving us good minutes lately.

            • asifyouknow

You guy are incredible lol lol lol I’m glad I’m not related to you all…lol,,You probably steal for your own..

              • Chewwy No Matthew

If you are the Spurs fan you claim you are, then go on their site and pass judgement on people like you do here. It’s amazing how little you know yet how much you pass judgement on people. To say that Musik would steal from his own is pathetic and low, especially because he gives his opinion. I know you are referring to everybody because you are so much smarter and better than everybody else in your mind. Stick to basketball.

                • asifyouknow

You taking this too seriously is a was a joke…

              • CJT

Watch the replay again, he doesn’t turn anything. And doesn’t start holding his ankle until about 10 seconds until after the game ends. I feel bad for GV that he felt he had to fake an injury because he was so embarrassed about that play. Back up point guards probably shouldn’t have the ball in their hands with the game on the line.

                • asifyouknow

ok then,,,That is as good of a theory as any. I agree

                • CJT

I respect GV for coming out and saying that he didn’t hurt himself and just turned the ball over in his post game interview. He took responsibility after all. Good for him.

          • asifyouknow

Again you have no clue about what you are talking about, You don’t look and analyze anything … you just wing it…Just in case in Toronto you don’t know that American hillbilly phrase means : To make it up as you go…lol

            • Chewwy No Matthew

WOW, just because you are a fan and are clearly bias when it comes to Vasquez doesn’t mean you know anything about basketball. I guess you feel Vasquez was in the process of making a terrific basketball decision on that last possession. Don’t even bother answering, we already know.

              • asifyouknow

I think you should be the coach..lol
Ok let me school you, forget about Vaz and all that stuff.
                1) I predicted over a month ago that Mr, Casey was going to dog this team to a point of no return.
You could clearly see this guys were playing at a -high intense- level. That kind of effort can not be maintain all season, specially playing his horses close to forty minutes. I believe my quote then was -He will end up with a team with rubber legs- If you played any kind of sport you should know what I’m talking about.
That is exactly what you got, that is why they are getting beat to rebounds and pushed around in the paint like rag dolls.
DeMar’s first step is not exploding to the basket and he is not jumping as high for his jump shots.
Lowry is about dead, he is running on guts alone, Casey pushed this guy too far.
Amir so beat up, I really don’t know how he does it. Him playing might border in coaching abuse..lol
Maybe this is all they got and they’re really a .500 team.
I’m not a Casey fan but to be fair maybe he no choice but to ride this guys as long as he can to keep on winning.
I honestly think, and I hope I’m wrong, there will no time to recover from this if they want to keep on winning.
At this point I would play .500 ball to rest the starter with the hope that is not too late to get those legs back.
                2) Casey got to stop being so hard headed and play Fields, the guy is not a bum, I remember him playing in college.
                3) Tonight DeMar still played 39 minutes…Kyle 35..they need to keep it under 30 and do a mini tank for a few games.
I feel Casey might of pushed this team a bit too far. Hope I’m wrong.

        • Chewwy No Matthew

It’s amazing that every person who say’s anything negative about Vaz is referred to as Sargent or leader of the Vasquez hater club by you. Again, people are actually giving constructive and fair critisism about Vaz and we have all given him credit where it is due, yet for some reason you don’t seem to read those comments or admit to it. It’s sad. BTW, don’t refer to others as know it all’s just because they don’t agree with you. Lastly, not sure what makes your comments any better because you name is ASIFYOUKNOW.

          • asifyouknow

Again your making up your own reality, we all live in a free society. Opinions are great ..you got yours and I got mine and according to my fair and balance point of view you are wrong…no crime in that…lol

            • FREEJV

shut up clown tell that clown greivis to stop chucking shot after shot since you know him so well. i bet you slept with him too

              • asifyouknow

Now you went from smart to the silly side and I’m being kind…I’m just too nice to get into a sewer with you…lol

                • Abused Raptors Fan

No you just frustrate people with your ridiculously biased perspective on Vasquez. You can sit there and rip on every other player and brush it off as “just an opinion, that’s what makes sports fun” but if anyone says anything remotely negative about Vasquez you say stupid shit like you did above or say how you hope Vasquez signs elsewhere.

            • Chewwy No Matthew

Trust me, I don’t value your opinion and the only one who finds it balanced and fair is you. No basketball knowledge or commentary from you, just the leader of the Vasquez fan club.

      • asifyouknow

Just watched the interview ,,he said he got beat to the spot and tried to change and had a weird step and lost balance he is ok is going salsa dancing after the game…lol
Sorry hater nation he will be around for awhile…..lol..may not play much tomorrow…but ok…

    • Icarus Descending

Hope he isn’t hurt too bad, we definitely need him around. I think his production off the bench is just as important as Patterson.

Seems like demar isn’t the only one getting tripped by the invisible monster at the top of the key.

    • Mexiballer

You are going beyond ridiculous now. Vasquez didnt roll his ankle. You said you watched the replay. It clearly shows that his ankle didnt move at all. He stopped flat footed and fell over backwards. There is no ambiguity or question about what happened when you watch it. Hes not hurt and he will play tomorrow. Unless he is going to fake an injury too, like the way he fake a limp when got up and walked away from the play. You need to up your medication or put your glasses on when you watch replays. I still think you might be related to Vasquez in some way the way you talk about him. Either that or you are genuinely in love with him, or you are just delusional, probably both.

  • Niagara_dude

The thing that kills me is the other night we are up 8 with 41 sec and we lose. The play design for a late game situation was very poor and must improve if this team plans on doing anything in playoffs.

    • asifyouknow

Actually was a good play, kick out or to the bucket, Vaz got beat to the spot tried to change direction, rolled his foot and lost balance…He took full responsibility for it in the interview…

      • Steverino

The replay showed he didn’t roll his ankle. Just jammed it, by the looks of it. No excuses.

      • FREEJV

he didnt roll anything. Shaq was laughing at him on inside the nba cuz he faked an injury L.O.L

        • asifyouknow

Shak is a broadcast blow out he has nothing to ofer that program but comic relief……that is not a.serious program

          • FREEJV

            ……

  • asifyouknow

Zarar Siddiqi Well I know you are the leader of the Vaz hating club so of course you wont believe it…

  • peter_7.701

Does anyone know why Leo has been getting so many broadcast gigs as of late. Is there some sort of schedule between him and Jack, because man Leo is horrible someone needs to get that gabage out of there.

    • Aaron

Sportsnet will be getting alot more going forward. They are trying to drown TSN out completely

      • peter_7.701

Oh wow that sucks the playoffs are usually on TSN though right?

        • FREEJV

its because of march madness . the broadcast schedule was released ages ago.

    • FREEJV

bevause Jack is covering march madness on tsn. so all sportsnet games will be Leo as color commentator

  • Niagara_dude

If Patterson is not ready and will not be playing in the near future Raptors need to sign someone from D-LEAGUE or free agent. This team cannot wait forever, first it was 7-10 days then it was 7 days now it is unknown.Raptors make a decision either he is going to play or get some help because our starters are whipped tired (Amir).

    • asifyouknow

They are tired …you can thank Casey , he took them to the edge…. I’ll bet you all the Yellow Perch in Lake Erie that this “resting program” for the horses came from the top and not Casey,,,Coach is a well known HARD GUY he don’t believe in pain …….lol

  • Chewwy No Matthew

If the slow start to games continue in the playoffs, it will be a quick exit for us. Games slow down in the playoffs and points are tougher to get. Falling behind big early in the game will crush us.

  • Niagara_dude

Who reaily cares about who is calling the game, I am more concerned on what is going on or not going on the court.Leo does not play defense or drive to the basket.Means nothing to the outcome of the game so just drop the Leo BS and focus on the players not color guy.

    • peter_7.701

yea but face it commentary is a major part of sports, have you ever watched a game muted it’s horrible. Sometimes commentary can draw you out of a game because it’s so dull or boring or just sound stupid. I just personally prefer Jack and I’m pretty sure most Raps fans do as well.

      • Eunys

Stop it please lol… you love Jack just because of BACARDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

        • peter_7.701

          LOL!

      • Steverino

If so, I’m not one of the majority. I prefer Leo, but he frustrates the hell out of me, too. Just less than the inane Jack Armstrong.

        • FREEJV

at least Jack speaks the truth unlike Leo the kissass

  • ad

3 reasons raps lost this game:
    1) zero intensity and focus in first half
    2) Missed FTs
    3) DD being a black hole on offense and missing shot after shot

The last two reasons will happen sometimes (although i dont think dd is an all star and should not be treated as such) However, no excuse for the poor start for a team competing for home court advantage in the playoffs. You cant rely on 4th q comebacks every game, especially on the road. Also, lowry shows once again he is the teams most important player by a huge margin and is the only all star on this team.

    • FREEJV

idk who is more overrated. Demar or Paul george?

      • Tanks-a-lot

        George
But if George finds his groove again in the playoffs he will still get the superstar treatment.

      • noname

this is actually the only site where demar is kinda overrated, on Bleacher Report he has actually been CRIMINALLY underrated until he got his all-star spot. Now he’s somewhere in between. Give the guy a break he’s still young and don’t forget his work ethic meaning that he will most definitely get better. How much better he gets is anyone’s guess.

  • Niagara_dude

Good point Chewwy, these slow starts have been a big problem all season and have been even worse the past couple of weeks. We were lucky on Sunday to come back in 4th, you cannot play this type of game late in the season & playoffs and think you can just turn it on when you want.

  • Ayy

I would give my left nut for patterson to come back tomorrow!

    • Adriiian

And the other one to retain LOWRRRRYYY. Hope you got 3 brother.

    • Abused Raptors Fan

Should return soon. He’s been cleared for 5 on 5 scrims tomorrow

  • Icarus Descending

One point of disagreement. Ross is great on D, but I don’t know anyone who can shut down a quick pg with mad handles like waiters with the hand checking rules how they are. When Ross tried backing off to keep him in front waiters was just nailing shots.

That said Ross played sub par D today just like everyone else except de cool in my opinion.

    • Tanks-a-lot

It’s a pansy league since the zone and death of the hand check.

  • Niagara_dude

Your 2 star players went 6-14 from the line tonight that with rec league type defense the first 3 quarters of the game was what killed us tonight

  • Eunys

How can you be so close in the division and in the conference and be so nonchalant????? Demar and T Ross seemed not to care! Look at how Lowry plays…always serious! This top fourth quarter differential is just a silly ranking..just play well the whole game. They will go to the playoffs for sure but I am not expecting anything with this attitude.

    • FREEJV

demar led the teeam in the “dont care” category”. ross kept us in the game with his shots so idk what you re talkin about there.

      • Eunys

Please!!!!! T Ross was torn apart by Waiters…Anyway we FREED JV for 18 min and we saw the result

        • FREEJV

we freed demar for 38 and saw the result there clown

  • Niagara_dude

Ad Patterson gives you another big who can move his feet and play defense, which with Amir cuts down on straight line drives. The other bigs we have are just too slow and this is a big reason why teams are getting so many easy baskets.Check other teams shooting %

  • unknown

Title nazi – the score was 102-100.

    Do we get pizza?

    Critical loss.

  • asifyouknow

    Just to lighten the mood:
YOU ALL GOT TWO LYNCHINGS SO FAR THIS WEEK.
    1) SALMONS
    2) VASQUEZ
    3) Who will you LYNCH next??
    My prediction: Ross.

    • FREEJV

actually demar was the reason tonight not vasquez.

      • asifyouknow

He did have eight assists. One thing I noticed, he is not jumping as high on his shot, when he is on he hangs in the air like MJ, he really does remind me of MJ shots…I like this guy ..

  • asifyouknow

    Waiter is available…

  • Guest

    What’s our record without Patterson?

    • asifyouknow

Good question ….He is important for sure

  • asifyouknow

    Long quiet flight I bet…lol

  • JRedmond14

Dwane Casey be like ” What is this wire-to-wire win other good teams speak of?” Seriously feel like turning on Raptors game for just the 4th quarter lately. Got to start quicker and got to beat the bad teams. This was must win tonight for the 3rd seed and the majestic 50 win season. Big loss no energy whatsoever!!!!!

  • tonious35

Win is not deserved rightly. Besides Cleveland playing other teams at a higher level the last week, we totally shanked this game. The majority of this team are still not KILLER INSTINCT and GETTING BUSINESS DONE enough to be a homecourt team. I can call crap on Casey for pulling out the players that are younger and deserved more time, but it’s the desperation and intensity the players must play everyday that Casey cannot control. MU still has a boatload of work to do off season.

  • Eunys

I know they lost but please correct the score !!!

  • Louvens Remy

This team is tired, banged up and sometimes plays dumb. All three were on display tonight.

    • FREEJV

also comes out too nonchalant especially demar.

  • Louvens Remy

Looks like JV had his pacifier out again tonight. SMH

  • Louvens Remy

DeMar needs to pop in an old school Pistol Pete dribbling VHS this summer. How you got no handles playing the 3?

    • FREEJV

also he needs to pop in a tross how to dunk on a drive vhs. this guy never dunks anymore idk whats up with that .

  • NOOOOO!

The last play ran for Vasquez???… lol… that will never happen under DC Raps!. This was a play ran for DD, but everything went as Vasquez got trapped in this nonsense offensive play. If you have the ball there and the play is for you then shoot for God’s sake, at least I would prefer that than to see what I saw, but that to happen you need to give your players the confidence to do so. The “ankle thing” is just the guy feeling embarrassed. But something is clear the play was never run for him.

  • NOOOOO!

I’m agree this team is tired… but this is DC responsibility, using more De Colo or Fields tonight, Klow was sick dude!!!. I mean we don’t have a coach or at least one which is very bad managing times and setting matchups anyway.

  • jakdripr

Honestly I’m actually happy they lost, they’ve gotten into this habit of not showing up against opponents they deem “lesser” and they’ve gotten away with it a number of times. More losses like this should make them realize they can’t just show up when they feel like. Especially not at this point in the season.

  • Mexiballer

Ive mentioned before that my biggest fear with Vasquez is that he will choke in the playoffs. The first time a big play was called for him tonight, and not only does he choke but he pretends he twisted his ankle. Erratic drama queens do not make good point guards. Im glad Casey made that terrible play call now instead of in the Playoffs. How do you not give the ball to Lowry and let him create.

    • Steverino

I don’t think Vasquez pretended he twisted his ankle. Leo pretended he twisted his ankle, even after the replay showed he clearly didn’t. He just made a bad play, lost his balance, and threw the ball a way. No defence of that final play, but I’m not buying your interpretation of it.

      • Mexiballer

Did you watch the replay. He reached for his ankle in pain after a few seconds of lying down watching the play finish. His team mates came over to him to ask him how he was and then he got up and limped away from the play. If you watch the replay I guarantee that you will see that he did not turn his ankle at all. He stopped completely flat footed and then he fell pretty much straight backwards, no ankle movement involved. He was embarrassed at his mess up and and was looking for an excuse. Watch the replay. A GIF tomorrow would be nice so that everyone could see what happened before, during and after the play. Its ok to mess up like Salmons did , but its not ok to fake an injury because you messed up. Its unacceptable. As a fan, its embarrassing to me.

        • FREEJV

lol shaq made fun of him on inside the nba so yes he did fake it

          • Steverino

Oh, well if Shaq made fun of him, that settles it. Must be true.

            • FREEJV

yep. hes a future hall of famer so ill take his opinion rather than yours. also in his post game interview he was fine. he was clearly faking it stop with the bullshit. i bet if he got a basket he would jump around in joy instead of faking an injury

              • asifyouknow

Yea and he still getting a nice pay check….

              • asifyouknow

Yea and he still getting a nice pay check….

            • asifyouknow

To answer the hater you been commenting with above ..I looked at the play on slow mo High definition TV ..The ankle turned and he lost balanced , it might of hurt or he got scared as that was the surgery foot.. ..I’m sure he was taped up so that might of protected it. If! The gentleman above, who claims he is a baller, should know very well that one can turn your foot and lose balance and that it may hurt for awhile but you can recover fast with at worse a bruise. That is what happened there..

            • asifyouknow

        • Steverino

Have you never jammed an ankle? You don’t turn it, but you land awkwardly on it and it hurts. Or are you someone who’s never played the game? Given your handle, you probably have. Or you’ve just been lucky enough never to have been hurt. He didn’t fake an injury. Injuries last. Getting hurt is just in the moment. It hurts, you get up slowly, and then after a few minutes it’s fine. Happens all the time, both in real life and in the NBA.

          • Mexiballer

Yeah I do play basketball and I have had ankle injuries before. Did you watch the replay?

  • HQ

Tbh I don’t know how people dislike DeRozan so much. Even when the majority fall in love after he goes off for 30+ and leads the team to victories. For me, seeing a guy grow that much with the system and loving the city (this is evident anywhere) as much as he does, it’s hard to dislike him. But at this stage of his career now where he wants to achieve stardom, he has to be more assertive early on. That’s as simple as taking the ball to the hole and getting guys in foul trouble early on instead of starting off with a few casual jumpers. If he can put himself into the game, much like Lowry is basically all the time, in the early stages he’ll help not only himself but the team a whole lot.

    • FREEJV

i didnt start hating him until after he got selected as an allstar. it seems like ever since then he comes out all non chalant thinking hes done something. He needs to have a sense of urgency insyead of thinking “im the man so i can play lazy defense and shoot long jumpers until the 2nd half”. thats why people are starting to hate him. oh amd also his defense was worse than Novaks tonight on Deng.

  • Ds

So, Hayes, the dude that actually played defence and was +17 for the night gets a C+. Brilliant.

  • katmore9

So much for the Raps having an easier schedule down the stretch. Still have to play the games…

  • Matteemo

So you have JV an F and ESPN gave him the worst player of the night award… And although he was really bad, there’s a little more to it in my opinion, he got mauled 3 times under the basket where he didn’t get a call, the 3rd time actually sliced open a cut on his forehead, and then he got called for 3 real chincy fouls putting him in foul trouble.
The whole team started out like hot steamy garbage so they had huge minuses, then everyone else got in during the Raps run which made minuses more respectable, except where he was in foul trouble, and thus benched for Hayes (who was equally ineffective) he never got the opportunity to bring his stats back to respectable levels.
Was he bad? Definitely. Does he need to find a way to not let terrible officiating affect him? Definitely. But should he be getting a fairer shake from the officials night in and night out? Absolutely

    • Matteemo

I’m not worried about him, because once he does start getting the respect of the officials and is able to stay on the floor and maintain high confidence he’s gonna be a force.
He takes things too personally right now, needs to grow up a bit and get mentally tougher, develop thick skin.

Casey needs to find a another coaching job next year, my gut is that Masai will not bring him back. His defense set ups and details are really good. However his utilization of his bench resources is astonishingly bad, he overuses cold players (Salmons shooting 3/27, Novak 1/6, etc..). He has little to no faith in T ross and JV in late game situations if they are cold/luke warm in a game (only plays them when they are hot late game). He really needs to give some of Salmons minutes to Fields, also Buycks dropped over 25 points in his first game back in the D-league Casey should give him at least 2-3 minutes here and there to see what we have in him (E.g Daye dropped a butt load of points for the spurs recently). Yesterday’s game sums up his problems on designing and feeling the offense, sure T ross was having a mediocre defense game but you should have your top 3pt shooter (shot 40% that night) on the floor for the last minute or two not Novak who was putting up massive bricks. He kept forcing the plays through Demar even though Demar was cold, he just has a very hard time imagining offense in his head, this is why the raptors when trailing (by 5 or less) with 3 minutes or less left in the 4th are 7-21. Casey needs to go, hes not the coach the team needs right now, they need someone who can set up Defense, but more importantly utilize such a quick athletic front court for offense.
