This week on The Doctor is In with Phdsteve, I have called in the boys from the world wide roundtable to talk ball and we have a discussion about all the action in NBA and NCAA while continually tying it back to the Raptors!  Joined by my brother Mike (who knows college basketball), Greg Mason (the brain from the south), and Blair Miller from The Fifth Quarter Blog we discuss:

NBA

  • The simple fact that Lowry is freaking amazing
  • The week that was for the Raps:
    • The OKC loss and just how damn good Durant is
    • The 4th quarter comeback vs Atlanta
    • Another last minute loss, but his time to Cleveland
    • Is Dwane Casey day drinking again? I mean have you seen some of his rotations
    • The next week has a stretch of winnable games: Bos, Bos, Orlando before Mia and Houston
    • Should we be worried about a Knicks or Brooklyn team on the rise
    • More Cowbell

NCAA

  • Andrew Wiggins: was he all hype? Did a quick Kansas exit hurt his draft stock? What about Jabari Parker?  Should they stay? Should they go?
  • What does your bracket look like?  Blair and Steve lick their wounds and count their losses
  • He is the prophet (ND State #pigfarmers)!
  • Florida vs UCLA and all the fun that comes with a game like that!

OK somebody please clue me in to all this #pigfarmer business…

    • raptors phdsteve

In last weeks pod before the start of the tourney, Greg predicated that ND State would provide the upset of the tournament because their players are home grown pig farmers

Nice. Did you guys decide on your “bet” yet??

        • morgan c

To anyone interested, Greg and I refer to a good article on Jabari Parker’s freshman year at Duke. Here’s a link for it. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-basketball/news/20140219/jabari-parker/

Another great pod .. you guys are killin it. I actually look forward to these as much as the best Grantland ones (simmons, jalen/jacoby).
One comparison that I dont think I have heard many people make about Wiggins is to Terrance Ross. Sure, Wiggins has better overall tools .. but their approach to the game is eerily similar / frustrating (yet sometimes amazing).
Both of them, despite being arguably the best player / scorer on the floor seem to be content hanging around the three point line, just reversing the ball when the get it and not being assertive.
I dont know if this “spark” as you guys call it is teachable or not, but to me, watching both of them play, I cant help but think of the other (and I cant help but scream at my TV for their teamates to give them the ball more .. as both will go on what seem like 5-6 minute stretches without even touching the ball, let alone scoring).
Anyways – there seems to be a lot of diagnosis as to how Wiggins projects and his tenativeness, yet we seem to have a pretty good window to that right in front of us in TR, dont we?
