Raptors die a slow and painful death at the hands of the New York Knickerbockers.

New York Knicks 108 FinalRecap | Box Score 100 Toronto Raptors
Amir Johnson, PF Shot Chart 17 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +7Looks like Dwane Casey didn’t have faith in his health, because he basically didn’t play at all in the second half. Let’s hope he comes back soon, because the Raptors defense absolutely stinks without him. Also, DeRozan’s effectiveness is also stunted without the ability to play freestyle two-man game with Johnson.

Terrence Ross, SF Shot Chart 28 MIN | 4-12 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 13 PTS | -15Picked up five fouls because Melo’s superstar status must be protected at all costs. Every single one of his three-point attempts were open, and he didn’t sink enough to make the Knicks pay. Get ready for the playoffs when he’s guarding LeBron/George/Pierce’s superstardom.

Jonas Valanciunas, C Shot Chart 37 MIN | 5-14 FG | 4-7 FT | 21 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 14 PTS | +7Dominated the Knicks in the second quarter, so naturally, his wings didn’t give him the ball at all in the second half, because that only would have made way too much sense. Beasted on the boards as he continued his recent run of dominance in the post. Struggled to guard Amar’e Stoudemire, who apparently took a time machine back to 2009.

Kyle Lowry, PG Shot Chart 39 MIN | 7-13 FG | 7-9 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 25 PTS | -8He tried. He really did. With the Knicks trapping so hard in the pick-and-roll, he couldn’t generate enough offense, although his assist totals would be much higher had DeRozan and Ross sunk some of their open looks. Found success when he called his own number.

DeMar DeRozan, SG Shot Chart 43 MIN | 6-18 FG | 12-13 FT | 5 REB | 5 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 4 TO | 26 PTS | -14Lots of shots, not enough points. Struggled whenever the Knicks trapped him. He either needed to split the double, or swing the ball before the trap was fully set. You can tell the difference in the efficacy of his sets without Amir in the lineup. His defense wasn’t so hot either. Didn’t look all too interested in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Hansbrough, PF Shot Chart 8 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +1Take it away, netw3rk: Tyler Hansbrough always comes in off the bench like a guy inside an IHOP who just saw some dude lean on his car.

Patrick Patterson, PF Shot Chart 16 MIN | 2-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 6 PTS | -18Found himself in early foul trouble thanks to the refs falling for every Knicks flop. Hit his open threes, but didn’t see more shots because his wings couldn’t effectively deal with traps, which meant the Raptors couldn’t capitalize on finding him while he was open. Basically, he played a Steve Novak game.

Chuck Hayes, PF Shot Chart 7 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -5He played? If you say so, boxscore.

John Salmons, SF Shot Chart 23 MIN | 4-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 10 PTS | +6Sunk his fair share of shots, but did nothing to deter Carmelo Anthony. Luckily, he’s the Raptors’ defender de jour on the wing. I have a feeling that Salmons will find himself in the Gay/Turkoglu/Bargnani purgatory for Raptors fans, provided he lands a roster spot next season.

Steve Novak, SF Shot Chart 3 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +9He came in and missed a triple. Cool beans.

Greivis Vasquez, PG Shot Chart 19 MIN | 2-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 6 PTS | -1Horrible effort for Vasquez, who looked extremely slow on the court. Again, yet another Raptor perimeter player who couldn’t deal with double-teams, except he fared the worst. Couldn’t even generate any offense in the two-PG line-up. A forgettable day for YOLO.

Dwane Casey
You know, sometimes I wonder about Dwane Casey. I also wonder why Jonas was denied touches in the second half. I also wonder why every play coming out of timeouts were drawn up for DeRozan. I also wonder why he didn’t prioritize attacking Amar’e in the pick-and-roll. I also wonder why he went small with just Hayes as his lone-big at one point.

Six(!) Things We Saw

  1. Carmelo Anthony got the benefit of the whistle all night. I understand the existence of superstar calls, but Ross literally picked up 5 personal fouls for intruding on Melo’s shadow. That’s not cool, refs.
  2. Jonas Valanciunas didn’t see very many touches in the second half, which is odd, given that he destroyed the Knicks’ front-line in the second quarter. Just another questionable decision on a night chalked full of them.
  3. Why did the Raptors shoot so many triples? Because the Knicks trapped hard on the pick-and-roll, packed the paint on every drive, and were willing to concede open threes. There’s no problem with trading contested layups for open threes.
  4. The Raptors need to get Amir Johnson back if they even want to sniff a top-10 defense again. For the reasons why, read Blake Murphy’s excellent piece on Amir’s integral role in the Raptors’ defensive schemes.
  5. Before everyone freaks out, it’s one bad game. Take a deep breath, go for a walk, contemplate life, and then come back to the comment section. It’s not the end of the world.
  6. Extra note: Raptors clinch the Atlantic Division crown thanks to the Hawks, who defeated the Nets by a score of 93-88.
  • Andre Julian Ward

Why do the Raptors do this to my heart? …

  • FREEJV

JV was dominating in the post first half and then raptors decided to take stupid shots instead running a play for him. Great job guys

    • Jason Collins

I just wanted to tell you to stop harassing me, I’m not interested.

      • FREEJV

Be quiet Jason go sit on your bench pretty boy.

  • Musik519

They need to step it up on defense. No way they were out shooting the knicks with anthony playing. Lets hope they can give it right back to them in new york.

  • Gary Gill

Told u it’s gonna be a tough game.

    • DDayLewis

And here’s your prize for being right!

  • FREEJV

ladies and gentlemen your 1st rd matchup : raptors vs nets.

    • Gary Gill

And ladies and gentleman if the raptors face the nets they’ll lose. Hope it’s not back to the craptors.

      • FREEJV

        you try too hard

        • Gary Gill

First round out for the raps as usual. Nothing to see here.

          • Steverino

Yeah, horrible season. Disaster. Woe is us.

          • Guest

You seem to find pleasure in that.

      • DarkHorseRaps

Craptors?? Like are you for real? I’m tired of fans like you. They’ll face the Nets and? I’m guessing you were one of the fans that wanted them to tank and thought that they’ll be horrible forever. So one loss is like ” I knew it” chance for pretending fans like you

        • Gary Gill

Oh no I didn’t want them to tank. I didn’t mean to call them the craptors. I meant hope other people don’t call dem the craptors after we lose to the nets.

          • Guest

and why would they lose to the nets? the reality is the nets are a 43-36 team and were a 46-33 team, most likely 49-33 at seasons end. all your other imaginary points are useless. and ppl comparing 07 teams are dumb, completely diff rosters for both, name of the team is useless for comparison

      • Haim not Feldman

Cue the Talking Heads “Once In A Lifetime” ………..same azzit evah wuz…same azzit evah wuz…same azzit evah wuz

  • ad

Terrible loss. If they play bkn now in the 1st, fuck man. But you know what, they deserve it. Too many blown chances. Hos big are those salmons missed Fts vs okc if they finish 1 game behind the bulls.

    • GetLicks

They do deserve it if they finish 4th, they’ve played pretty damn well all year. 8-2 in last 10 games. Don’t break your ankle jumping off the bandwagon you (and a lot on here) keep leaving.

      • CJT

Right?? It’s laughable. Tell me that at the beginning of the year if I told these bandwagonners that we would beat both the Knicks and the Nets for the division title and a 3rd or 4th place seeding in the playoffs that they would have called me a homer etc. The team has been great and they deserve our support despite a poor defensive showing tonight.

    • Guest

      Dramatic much?
To be that bummed out at this point in the season, you can’t have been a fan for much more than 5 years dude.

  • dwaneman

Oh John Salmons, such a Vet. Honestly, he might be the vettiest vet I have ever seen. His Vettyness just locked down Melo. Such a calm presence forcing shots and jumping into Melo with 1 sec on the shot clock. You know next game I’m gonna play him even more and bench Landry- Dwane Casey Press Conference.

  • Moe

Not one bad game, 3 straight. This team is losing their identity (defense) but only silver lining is Jv has been impressive last 10 games, easily his best stretch.

    • Tinman

No – it’s just one bad game.
Forget about it. Get healthy. We got home for the playoffs. We lost to the Knicks, the Nets lost to the Hawks.

    • Steverino

I think it’s good they lost. They’ve played bad games and won. What happens then is they figure they continue to play that way and win. Now that they’ve lost, we’ll see if it’s a wake-up call.

      • kkb

Good analysis, agreed 100% ! Is better lose now than in playoffs.

  • RobertArchibald

Everyone ready for the “star whistle” in the first round against the Nets? It’s gonna be unbearable to watch. Raps have lost all defensive presence from earlier in the season. It’s gonna get ugly in the postseason.

    • Tinman

Carnac? Already putting a damper on the playoffs.
Everything going forward is gravy. We can get eliminated 4 straight or make it to the EC Finals, it’s all gravy.
We are 8-3 in our last 11 games.
Tonight was a bad second half – horrible.
DeRozan got to the line 1 less than Carmelo.

      • RobertArchibald

Your mention of DD at the line as much as Carmelo doesn’t take into account how they get fouled. DeMar gets fouled at the rim and there were a lot of no-calls in the paint. Carmelo gets calls on jumpers and ticky-tack hand checks. No idea what gravy means, but this will get ugly against Johnson, Pierce and Garnett

  • Marcus

    WHOOO HOOO ATLANTIC DIVISION BABY!!!!

    • Eunys

Good and Chicago will loose on Sunday against the Knicks and Wednesday against the Bobcats..No doubt!!!!

    • ad

I dont know if you are being sarcastic or not, but I could care less about the division if it means losing to bkn in the 1st rd. Even if they somehow beat bkn, they would play mia in the 2nd rd. This was a baaddd loss in every sense. Hopefully Chi loses another game but man, raps blew it big time.

  • Marcus

we just won the atlantic, we just won the atlantic

    • RobertArchibald

3rd seed is way more important. Atlantic was all but a formality at this point.

      • Tinman

And it’s still attainable. 3 games left. Fingers crossed the Bulls drop a game.

    • FREEJV

3rd seed is gone now. congrats

      • Marcus

Quit your whining… we just won the atlantic. You want to win the east? You have to beat everybody. Are we legit? We’ll beat Brooklyn. Gonna be an awesome series… And don’t sleep on the 3rd seed yet… still 3 games to go

        • Gary Gill

          Not gonna beat the nets.

          • Marcus

Well, aren’t you mister positive!!! You must really be exciting to be around. How about we won the season series. How about Garnett and Pierce are geriatric, how about JV will beast all over plumlee, how about… Never mind. Go cheer for the Knicks.

            • Gary Gill

I’m just telling how it is. I’m not a homer. The raps gonna be a tough out for any team. Their young and still have room to grow.

          • Tee

They might lose but you have to have patience man.

            Young team.

          • jakdripr

I don’t understand why people have so little faith in our team. I don’t know whether or not we’ll lose to the nets, only Gods knows tbh, but on paper I see no reason for people to be so certain we’ll lose. Everyone always say “experience”, “the playoffs are a different animal”, and of course “they beat us in 07”.

I’m not going to deny experience is a big deal, but no nearly as big as everyone wants to make it out to be, the raptors play the type of basketball that is successful in the post season(when they decide to anyway), they defend, the rebound, and they win on the road(something the almightly brooklyn still struggle with). Never mind the fact that other than OKC(and ATL as of tonight) we’re the only team to beat them on their home court in their last 18 games.

Finally the 07 comparison is unwarranted, this team can defend(unlike that squad), didn’t get dominated on the Nets court(unlike that squad), and have a legitimate post presence(when the boys decide to feed our big).

I think it’ll be a good series that’ll come down to the final few games, and it’ll test our teams mettle and perhaps forge them into something better. It’ll also teach Derozan (and the raptors) how to handle a team pretty much designed to stop our perimeter scorers.

            • FREEJV

its not just that. now if we get past 1st rd we play miami instead of a winnable matchup against indiana in the 2nd round.

              • jakdripr

lol, we haven’t won a first round match-up in over a decade, but sure let’s worry about our second round match-up.

        • FREEJV

would rather face miami in finals than semi finals

          • CJT

who gives a shit, you have to beat them at some time.

            • FREEJV

dwades knees wont hold up until finals. trust

      • WhiteVegas

Just need to win out and a Bulls loss. Completely doable.

    • Tee

If you told people this at the start of the season people would call you names.(especially of RR)

Big accomplishment for a young team.
      Baby steps….

  • Haim not Feldman

Congrats to the Knicks, the better team tonight. Games like this is where you through out pregame reports or other anal-ytics when you’re facing a team fighting for their playoff lives. It also doesn’t help when said team has a bonerfide All Star in Melo and Amare’ in 2011 form. The Raptors are the better team when they commit to defence. Amirite? Their defence has got them where they are, don’t quit now Raps.

  • Otisdonks

    Bulls are winning right now……

  • Age

Its not the D thats the problem, its their effort. Very lackadaisical especially when they need it.
This has not been their style this year but flad they are getting it out of way now before game 1

    • Tinman

No lack of effort from this group.
Tonight we played bad down the stretch, definitely missed Amir. But itt happens. Nets lost to Hawks. Credit Knicks and Hawks they are fighting for the playoffs.

  • FREEJV

JV is the future of this team. give him some touches pls

    • Tee

      Yup.
      Its exciting.
They need a pf to compliment him.

      • FREEJV

        http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BDZaJFd4aSk
this guy would be perfect. 1st pick in 2017. kevin garnett/durant combo. Also has better handles than demar at 7 feet lmao.

        • Some truth

Why do you always compare everyone to Derozan? Even bigs… Did your girlfriend give him a rusty trombone or something??

          • FREEJV

not comparing just stating the truth. a 7 foot high schooler has better handles.

            • Chewwy No Matthew

Even though DeMar is an awful ballhandler, in no way shape or form does JV have better handles than him. I have been very impressed how JV has become angry inside and treats the paint as if it is his territory. No more little bunny hop shots, it is mean angry jams. Problem is we used to blame ball hog Rudy Gay for why JV didn’t see the ball after early success. Now it’s just plain unexplainable. Playoffs are about tough baskets, nothing easy. Grind it out and depend on your bigs. The Raptors have to use the kid, he is the key to winning a series or two more than any other Raptor

            • Some truth

He also has better handles and a better jump shot than JV…so what’s your point exactly?

              • FREEJV

my point is….. JV is the future.

  • Ted

Ladies and Gentleman your head coach Dwayne Casey!!!
    -Plays Hayes on 2009 Amare
-Continues to play Salmons on Melo instead of LANDRY FIELDS!!!
-Doesn’t run plays for Jonas in second half
-Doesn’t play Nando de Colo over Vasquez
-Knicks go small ball due to Chandler being in foul trouble and Casey acknowledges by matching
-Doesn’t use Tyler Hansborough a player Amare would’ve struggled to defend and would have defended Amare a lot better than Hayes/2Pat

    • RobertArchibald

Landry was unavailable tonight with the flu.

      • bobmasa

Even if he was available Casey will never give him minites such a terrible coach!!

        • Chewwy No Matthew

Exactly! Casey won’t give Fields any burn regardless. Also, DeMar has two glaring weaknesses. One is dribbling and the other is double teams. He rarely passes out before a double team comes to him and when they do, it is bad decision time. DeMar WILL definitely get doubled teamed in the playoffs so he has to figure this problem out

    • Guest

uh, Landry wasn’t even in the building, sick with the flu. Feel free to rage on everything else though.

      • Ted

So the rest was right ?? Thanks then!!

    • CJT

Great insight. Do some research before you open your mouth.

      • Ted

        Whats wrong. Do tell.

    • asifyouknow

      wow

    • Eunys

      lol Landry is sick man!

    • johng_3

Tyler played and he sucked as well

  • CJT

It sure doesn’t take much for you guys to give up on your team. The Raps have risen to the occasion over and over this year and deserve a bit of respect and confidence. Have to tighten up the D and bring more intensity, but regardless of who we play in round one, we are going to put up a great fight.

    • Ted

Whos giving up?? No one here doubts the team. A lot of us doubt Casey though and that hasn’t changed since the start of the season

      • CJT

read below. Lots of comments about how the team can’t win and we are going back to the craptors etc.

  • GoingBig

Raps got their asses kicked – could be of some value
    – Casey has got to solve problems on the offence as well as work the defence ethic

    • Ted

Putting Hayes on Amare is never going to help. Hopefully Amir coming back solves a lot of this , although I have no solution for Salmons.

      • Age

Casey was hoping Hayes would push him out of the block before he got the ball. Patterson was useless and amare is too quick for JV and Hansborough

  • bomasa

WHY JOHN SALMON ?????? WHY ??????????
DUWEN CASEY THIS IS YOUR LAST SEASON GO BACK TO DALAS!!!!!

    • Age

Why u ragging on John Salmons tonight?
He was 4/7 and hit a couple key 3’s. Who else was giving Carmelo problems on D???

T ross was a pylon vs carmelo. Give me someone else who was bothering carlmelo??
If Amir was fit, he could have defended him like he did to Durant. But he wasn’t.
Patterson is still out of synch.
We dont have another big forward to handle him.

      • bobmasa

Two three short dosnt make him a good player The guy always struggles and still Casey is gives him all those minintes, it disnt make sense at all.

      • FREEJV

salmons always hesitates on open looks and that messes up our offense. after he hesitates he takes an even worse shot with the shot clock winding down.

    • DarkHorseRaps

I really hate bandwagon fans. Smh I wonder what your response will be if we won. This “fire coach Casey” after a loss and “coach of the year” after a win is getting on my last nerve. At least try and make some damn sense

      • Age

Tell me about it. Its quite sickening. This team played hard all season to win the division and a lot of credit is due to Casey and how his players believe in his system.

watch playoff time when Casey is outsmarting the rookie Kidd. Kidd is going to try and use all of Casey’s defensive tactics from his Dallas days.

  • caccia

Hansbrough played an excellent game: one rebound, assist, block, and steal in only seven minutes. He set screens to get open looks for his teammates from three-point range. His defence was consistent, he looked to get open but the guards never passed it his way. Not his fault the coach screwed up and put Hayes in during the second half, a total mismatch versus New York. A- tonight.

  • Minks77

Like JV and the DUI I hope they learn from this. They been playing down to their opponents lately and that’s gotta stop. Hopefully We see them start to really focus after this.

Melo and Amare, for all their faults put the knicks on their backs and beat a Raps team that’s gotten soft.

  • asifyouknow

In the NBA you must always remember -YOU GOT TO SHOOT THE DAM BALL AND SCORE- this is not the NCAA tournament.

All that concentration on defending the Knicks and yet they still scored over 100. Toronto was down 8 or 9 late in fourth quarter before they decided to SHOT the dam ball, but unfortunately they were colder than a winters night in Toronto.

Melo and Amar’e had 54 points, that was the game. Ross, Salmons, Amir, Patterson and Hayes just can’t defend people like this, once again Casey stuns me by not giving Tyler more minutes, hell let him foul out, who cares! Meanwhile he can put a hurting on someone going to the bucket the other guys were not doing anything.

Some nights when you can’t defend some folks you just have to put it up as quick as you can.

That defense thing did not work well for Casey tonight. Sometimes you just have to outscore the other team..lol..You know like when they had that bum Vasquez starting and winning. Not much defense but a W.

Few other things that have become obvious as this season ends:

Ross is really a shooting guard, you need a stronger guy in his position next year.

Amir is a wonderful player but he is really a back-up if you want to be an elite team.

Tyler is a journeyman, I thought he could be a Birdman type but that is not working out.

Patterson will make someone a great backup but again not a starter on an elite team.

Vasquez will be a starter on a .500 team or a great 30 minute back-up at PG and SG is a top team.

DeMar is a MINI-MJ in training, if Toronto wants to keep him they need to just letting shot no matter what, just suffer from some growing pains.

Lowry is great. He has to be thinking that is Evans and Holiday are worth over 10 mill a year how much is he worth? Toronto wont pay.

I would bet next year this team will look totally different. Wholesale changes are coming folks.

Oh yea one more thing, Casey out smarted himself tonight.

    • Abused Raptors Fan

HOLY SHIT! You actually admitted that Vasquez is not a starting pg on a contending team but a great 1st guard off the bench! Never thought this day would come lol. And I’m still not sure if you know what being a journeyman means, or else you’re not familiar with Anderson’s history before joining the Heat.

Also, both Amir and Patterson are skilled enough on both ends of the floor to be starters in the NBA. Like most starters, particularly those lacking an elite skill set that presents a clear advantage no matter what, it comes down to fit and system with those 2. Championship teams rarely have a distinct advantage at every position regardless of their opponent, as the salary cap usually forces certain concessions. The key is to limit your vulnerabilities as much as possible by surrounding your star(s) with 2 way players to negate any defensive liabilities without completely sacrificing your offense.

      • asifyouknow

Ok …I’m basing my opinion on whether this folks can replace anyone on the Heat, Pacers, Huston, San Antonio type of teams.
To play elite teams you got to match-up well, we can agree on that, there isn’t a Cinderella story in the NBA playoffs as there are in the NCAA tournament.
Ross is out of place, once they get to a seven game series he may have a great game or two but eventually they are going to eat him up, too many 6’9″ and well over 200 lb that he will have to defend.
        Agree with you.
They still don’t play good team defense . I just watched the Spurs play and I see them get beat all the time but somehow there always some one in the paint. They are so good at that.

  • arsenalist

Defense has been shit for some time now, tonight it cane to a head. Wish DD could develop the defensive ability to take on the responsibility of defending the best player on the other team, or at the very least, not take so many soul-crushing bad shots.

    • FREEJV

There was a guy at the ACC sitting courtside today that the raptors would rather have than DD. cant mention his name due to nba policy.

You wonder after 3 years? lol I’ve been watching him a few months and all I’ve been wondering is how he became a winning coach ! Facts are that he is, so we have to give him his due. Would I hire him if I was an owner? HELL NO! lol

    • DDayLewis

Oh my God and give some of my buddies here an opportunity to rip me apart! That may be interesting …lol…Maybe as a guest once in a while…lol..I’ll keep posting my takes …

There is something about this great team that I don t get…. why can t they sustain a 7 points lead at home? and Also I hope MLSE is not counting on this crowd to win a play off game. Chicago was down by 10 in the 3rd quarter and the United Center was still cheering and chanting Defense..!!!!! This crowd is boring!!!!!!11111

    • arsenalist

The crowd is too distracted by the ridiculous promotions between every timeout to pay attention to the game.

    • FREEJV

We re bored of winning . wanted to see how it feels to lose .

    • GetLicks

It seems the crowd is falling victim to the same thing as the players: getting lazy in the final stretch before playoffs cause they’re anxious for it to start already. And if you think the raptors can’t count on their fans come playoffs, you must be a new fan. We have one of the best playoff crowds (only Golden State & Portland can compare imo) and I expect this year to be no different. Just wait and see for yourself, grasshopper

  • Eunys

Heuuuuuuuuuu… Why is everybody already putting the Pacers in the second round loool those guys will loose against Charlotte or Atlanta if the playoffs start today..

  • DarkHorseRaps

As crappy as the raps defense was tonight, the foul calls in favor for Melo was just beyond stupid and ridiculous! Ross is a young player but he never gets that many fouls defending the other team’s best player like that. I had headache watching this game and refs made it unbearable. I’m only scared mainly because of the whistles when it comes to facing Brooklyn. And heard that JV might be suspended during playoffs I hope that’s just a rumor :( with that being said, hopefully the Knicks beat Bulls on Sunday and raptors should focus, lock in their defense and win the remaining 3 games.

  • KJ-B

All I can say is I miss the big backcourt of Grevis & Nando… sometimes Lowry does too much out there and it becomes an individual (see: Contract Year) and not team pursuit with him. I predict that KLow7 won’t be as effective come playoff time–he’ll be getting hit and a lot of no calls–I know he can hit back…hope the emotions are contained bc he’s gonna get pounded with no layup rule in the lane!
    Hated the no-call tech!

  • Bryan Colangelo

How much of this angst is a byproduct of all of us really, really hating the Knicks?

Being the ones that eliminate them from playoff contention would be so, so sweet.

  • Mexiballer

It comes down to defensive effort and focus. With it the Raptors a very good team who can compete with almost anyone. With out they are very average. To my eyes the defensive intensity has been slipping for a while. This team has become far to comfortable not being the underdog. Maybe this will remind them what Casey has been trying to pound in to them all season long. This team needs to play desperate. They have forgotten that. Hopefully they will start to remember after tonight.

    • Ghotte

Not to mention settling for jump shot after jump shot after jump shot. Any playoff opponent they face will gladly allow them to play that way.

      • Mexiballer

For sure. Theyre not moving the ball as much as they did earlier in season either. They used to whip the ball around and catch defenses out of position trying to catch up on their rotations. That usually led to open shots in the rhythym of the offense. There was way to much one on one and jump shooting tonight as you said. When the shots are falling its a bit of fools gold especially when they keep winning games by bailing themselves out at the end of games. They have been playing way to loose at both ends of the floor. I believe they still have time before the playoffs start to tighten things up and get back to the way they were playing earlier. Three games anyway. Its probably more of a mindset than anything else.

      • asifyouknow

You just hit it right on the nose……too many jump shots…

  • BoooDC

During the whole season I’ve been saying… fire Casey and bring another big C… Salmons is a rel fish too. I didn’t like what I saw in this game and I certainly don’t like how the playoff looks like. But let’s see we also have some good news on JV and some real warriors like Amir, Lowry, DD, Vasquez, Patterson and Tyler. Enjoy the Atlantic Division tittle.

    • cdashq

Casey is the reason we are the 3rd/4th seed right now… he should not be fired, he should be praised

  • doncity

    champs!

  • jamesk

I wonder why any of you think you know better than a coach with his experience and success, who has been predicting this loss for a week. The players play the game, ladies and gentlemen, you’re internet cranks!!!

  • Antoine Rose

man, that DJ Augustine guy is looking like he can ball! We made this predicament we are in.

    • Guest

What predicament? The home court advantage for the 1st round predicament? GM’s, coaches and players the league over cower at the thought of that torture.

      • cdashq

the “losing the 3rd seed because we gave up on a player who as becoming a key component in the team that has taken the 3rd seed from us” predicament

      • Antoine Rose

With chicago passing us in the standings.. we gave them their season back

  • Mexiballer

Almost no one on these forums ever mentions Casey when the Raptors win. But when they lose he gets skewered. He has taken a young team with no real stars to speak of… a bench full of throw away players…the only team over 500 with two second year players as starters…and turned them into a fairly formidable team and Atlantic division winners. Not to mention a trip to the playoffs after a serious long drought. I am not saying he doesnt have more then a few flaws. He does. But the Raptors are not where they are now because they are loaded with talent or all stars. They are where they are because he has taught them the fundamentals of playing tough and smart on both ends of the floor one possession at a time. Are the Casey haters really bitching about him getting the Raptors to the playoffs with home court advantage in the first round? This team is not under achieving. If anything it is over achieving.

    • Ted

Have you read comments when we win??
Everyone always complains about John Salmons, why Tyler Hansborough didn’t play much and Jonas should get more touches.

      • CJT

Nice of you to admit that you don’t what your talking about win OR lose.

        • Ted

What does that even mean??? Don’t talk shit without bringing facts. You seem incompetent in bringing in facts or having an argument with adults.

Please try thinking before typing next time.

  • Maputo88

99 comments??!! Nobody went for that walk you suggested. Totally agree on the Melo superstar calls

  • dunkmycat7

You know I have not been on this site very long but I must say I’m amazed at how crazy you all get when this team loses.
you want to get rid of Casey and Kyle ? RIIIGHT. Come ON !!
They played a desperate team that wanted it more Melo and AMARE (who can believe it???) were GREAT, put the team on their back and did what they had to do. And this is another reason no one wants them in the playoffs. Despite how awful they have been that team is filled with vets,a bona fide superstar(whatever you think of his RGay tendencies) and a lineup with Melo Amare and TC that is HUGE in the middle. The Raptors have a lot of trouble with that kind of team with all our bigs except JV@ 6’8″ – and the similarities are another reason we don’t want the NETS in the first round either.
They didn’t pass the ball well, They sure didn’t play D, TRoss was HORRIBLE (so NOT the refs)totally outmatched, and will we once and forever just sit Salmons down and strap him to the bench. He’s DONE, can’t shoot and is becoming the poster bot for blow-by’s… Would have even been nice to have had Laundry avail to try to guard Melo…
Btw-anyone else notice the great game JV had again ?20 plus RB’s.. Gotta LOVE how he has responded ON the court to his issues OFF the court.

I am knew here but for 2 years I have visted this site. Im just happy to see some great fans here. After all we have been threw in every sport we can finaly say that the raptors are no joke. This is a young team.I wont blame them if they fall in the first round. They need to learn. They need to be hungry. We cant be doing the things the leafs have done to there team. Take it slowly. Im proud of this team win or lose. We should all be. Beacuse we are the raptors:) Cheers from Poland
