Toronto Raptors 116 Final
Recap | Box Score
107 Detroit Pistons
Amir Johnson, PF Shot Chart 17 MIN | 3-3 FG | 2-3 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 2 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | +2

What a God-send, can we give this guy a contract extension already? Seriously, if he was any more consistent he’d be a brick wall.

Terrence Ross, SF Shot Chart 23 MIN | 2-4 FG | 1-1 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 6 PTS | +17

Is there a stat like 1/2 triple doubles, because he almost nailed that with a 6/4/4 line. Sick player, sicker condo.

Jonas Valanciunas, C Shot Chart 30 MIN | 5-12 FG | 8-9 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 18 PTS | +9

I want to be friends with this guy so bad. He’d totally let me crash at his place, bum a smoke, and playfully throw the XBOX controller at me after I crush him in FIFA.

Kyle Lowry, PG Shot Chart 34 MIN | 9-18 FG | 6-8 FT | 2 REB | 7 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 28 PTS | +8

Are you watching Joe Johnson? Are you watching? This is what an All-Star looks like you over-paid, under-worked mushroom head of a human being.

DeMar DeRozan, SG Shot Chart 38 MIN | 10-19 FG | 8-10 FT | 1 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 30 PTS | +7

Hah, if you caught the pod posted today I chose not to talk about him because he wasn’t doing much all week. Well, tonight he did something. Like a lot and got a tweet from Lillard appreciating the work.

Tyler Hansbrough, PF Shot Chart 11 MIN | 0-0 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 2 PTS | +3

It doesn’t matter what he does in the regular season, as long as he knees Garnett in the groin reducing the thug to a pile of leaves, I’m all good.

Patrick Patterson, PF Shot Chart 25 MIN | 2-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 3 BLK | 1 TO | 4 PTS | +6

Back to the bench, back to being a playa. I’ve ordered my gold-hemmed Patrick Patterson jersey and should be here in time for the playoffs. I’ll be at the ACC, just look for the guy getting the mad pu$$y. Three blocks tonight and they said he don’t play D.

Chuck Hayes, PF Shot Chart 14 MIN | 1-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 10 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 2 PTS | -2

Playa, meet Balla. Solid rebounding game against a frontline some call formidable. Chuck Hayes calls them a bunch of pansies.

John Salmons, SF Shot Chart 16 MIN | 0-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -5

Jesus man, even in a post where I’m giving everyone mad love, I can’t figure what to write for this guy. I presume he’s bored of the regular season and just waiting for the playoffs.

Greivis Vasquez, PG Shot Chart 19 MIN | 5-9 FG | 2-2 FT | 0 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 14 PTS | +3

Sixth man of the second half of the post All-Star game period.

Nando de Colo, PG Shot Chart 15 MIN | 2-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 4 PTS | -3

Someone needs to pull up his average distance run/minute stat. I bet it’s sky high.

Dwane Casey

Coach of the Year? Probably not, but definitely an extension.

One Thing We Saw

  1. Massive scheduling issue today on RR. Apologies.

Feel free to write your own quick reaction and post it here.

Only a couple things to say:

    1) Eleven players in double figure minutes, everyone over ten, most of them 15 min or over. Got to continuo that until the playoffs.

This guys are tanking the last few games and Casey just does not know it yet…lol

Casey gives Vaz a cold complement after bailing his ass out again, but gives DeColo a warn and fuzzy compliment “he has an uncanny vision of the court” is this guy freaking kidding me, Spurs fans know who this guy is, he will be playing for the Russian Tundra Seals next year. lol

Casey needs to shut the hell up and stop taking settle shot at Vaz and just bench him if does not live up to his so call defense specialist style.

Enough already Casey, you have been a loosing head coach in Toronto from day one, oh wait you started winning after the trade. Go figure. lol

DeMar more and more reminds me of MJ..I dint know why but his jump shot looks the same….

    • RobertArchibald

Their shots are very different. DeMar is not Jordan. Doesn’t play anything like him except for a few turnaround jumpers here and there. Let’s just hope DeMar can compete half as hard as MJ in the playoffs. We’re gonna need it.

      • asifyouknow

Ahhh… again DeMar’s jump shot looks like MJ’s… just look at clips on YouTube (aging) to confirm..

        • RobertArchobald

Actually if you’d like to break it down, I’ll gladly play along. DeMar shoots over his right shoulder and releases the ball with his forearm much more than his wrist. He also has his balance hand on the back of the ball upon release. He shoots tall with very little bend at the waist before jumping.

Jordan shoots with the ball more centred in his body. Has much more lift of his forearms and a big wrist release at the top. He has more waist bend when he gathers and much more angle to his spine at the apex of his jump.

Their footwork is also quite different, but I think that’s enough differences to point out for now.

          • CJT

Good analysis. I think the major thing that I notice that separates Derozan and Jordon is that Demar shoots from almost behind his head causing him have to use more forearm to bring the ball back towards the target. Jordan shoots from in front of his face allowing him to follow through up and at the target and snap his wrist for accuracy and spin.

            • RobertArchibald

Absolutely. Jordan also had phenomenal body control in the air. DeMar is getting better but he generally gets his shot off by jumping higher than his defender. His jumper has improved a ton, but he struggles against taller D because he lacks the ability to create space…at least for now.

          • asifyouknow

Impressive but he reminds me of MJ..I was a huge MJ fan ..Is all I’m saying…

            • RobertArchibald

As am I. Get a bit defensive when people start comparisons to arguably the greatest of all time. All that said, I’m impressed with the strides DeMar has made and glad he’s on our side.

              • asifyouknow

He is the man on this team…some folks think is Kyle,,,I don’t

    • afrocarter

The word you were looking for is “subtle”.

      • asifyouknow

Thank you …very nice of you…

    • JCREX

dude dont ever compare derozan with mj again. derozan is a good player yes but dont put him in the same sentance with mj their games are very different. the only similarity is a mid range game. mj is the 1st or 2nd greatest ever and demar is maybe a top 25 player in 2014 so just stop

  • DDayLewis

Re Patterson’s gold-hemmed jersey: I’m pretty sure Drake already has one of those.

  • DeMar DeRozan

It was definitely good to get the win, we definitely needed it after last game. I’m most definitely excited for playoffs to start.

Oh and FREEJV, this was for you boi:

    • Age

Gotta love Jack’s play call “Take’em”

      Demar was chewing at Singler.

Tross needs to step it up a level. JV has already joined Lowry and Demar. One piece to the core could make us very dangerous.

    • FREEJV

its ok JV dunked on Lebron demar only posterizes white guys lmao

  • RobertArchibald

Besides that DeMar dunk this was another ugly win. Got absolutely destroyed on the glass. If Indy clinches first in the conference it might not be a bad idea to rest up and stay in 4th to avoid MIA if they can beat BKN. Guys look tired and disinterested on D. Getting beat off the dribble everywhere. Guys don’t wanna move their feet anymore. Can’t blame them with the minutes they’ve played all year.

    • Age

A big part is the team rebounding. Not just JV. Need a solid effort from 3 guys on the floor to box out and rebound better to minimize 2nd chance points.

      • CJT

It seemed like early it was Jennings taking all those bricked long two’s and three’s and even thought they were boxing out relatively well, long rebounds killed them and in the 3rd it was just effort

        • Age

true I realized in the 4th qtr when they picked up their D and started minimizing the 2nd chance points was when 2Pat and TRoss started taking effort with boxing out and grabbing boards.

      • RobertArchibald

Agreed. It’s such a waste of a good defensive possession. Again though, takes effort and positioning to force tough shots and then box out. Feel like guys are gassed out there.

    • Phat AlberG

Detroit is best rebounding team in the NBA, and it was their last home game of for the year so of course they going to play hard. Dude you need to relax lol they’re 8 – 2 in the last 10 games, they’re offence is humming right now. Its basketball, teams are going make runs, it’s about the W.

    • Courthawk

I agree. We have played a lot of bad teams; a really banged up Huston, and an Indiana team that was in the middle of an identity crisis, and plethora of tankers. The wins have masked tired, uninspired defense.

Teams are getting bumped off screens, guards are letting blow by after blow by happen, and we have lost the points in the paint battle too many times.

The next two games we need to make holding the other squad under 100.

That’s the ticket to the 2nd round and…

  • afrocarter

Somewhere, right at this moment, Kyle Singler is curled up in the fetal position, weeping silently in a dark corner.

    • CJT

Wrapped delicately in a poster of Demar dunking on him, for warmth.

    • Steverino

That dunk only ended on Singler, but the guy who got schooled was Drummond. It was on him.

  • Dagger

Who would have imagined that a season that began with hopes of losing a franchise-record amount of games to get Wiggins, would end with the Raptors winning a franchise-record amount of games? Still two games left, and we have a great shot at 48. This season is a vindication of many, many years of thankless fandom.

    • GetLicks

Wiggins is nice, and I’d love to have him…but there were a lot of fans who wanted to make playoffs this season.

      • CJT

I agree with you, but it sure didn’t seem like it on RR in November did it.

      • jakdripr

I think everyone wanted this kind of success this season, but the roster we rolled out at the start didn’t look like it would provide said success. So a lot of people tried to make the best of a shitty situation and pray for the tank. However here we are, 1 win away from a franchise record in wins, to go with a bunch of franchise records already set this season. With a young core and all our draft picks intact it’s hard not to be optimistic as to what the future holds.

However these are still the raptors, so ill just enjoy what we have and let Ujiri worry about the future.

  • Timo In Waterloo

Nice job, Arsenalist… that sums it up… next game

lets stay at the 4th seed indiana is 1st.

    • Maahfaace

who holds the tiebreaker between pacers and heat?

      • GLF

        Pacers supposedly.

        • Maahfaace

so, i agree then, rest up the starters for the last two, who cares if we win, i think we can take brooklyn. All pacers gotta do is stomp the magic which should happen

    • Quest

i agree, rest vs the knicks and settle for 48 wins on the year. that way we will be ready vs brooklyn and be able to take out indy in the second round! if everything goes as planned, we can get to the ECF. fingers crossed.

    • JCREX

we need to worry about getting out of the first round first. the realistic chance of beating the nets are no higher then 50% because they will have the refs on their side. Atleast vs the bobcats and wizards we will have a fair whistle and have a better chance to get into the 2nd round.

  • Icarus Descending

Ross passing game is coming along nicely, still too many turnovers but I like the progression. JV with 18 and 8 and DD killed it in the 4th. Oh and of course DD with the nasty dunk on Singler. More angry DD please.

    • jakdripr

Funny thing is it felt like a bad game for JV, then I look at the scoreboard and kid has 18 and 8. Just goes to show how well he’s been playing these past few games. It all goes back to the memphis game, that was when it all turned out it seems.

      • FREEJV

        he ll average 20/10 soon

        • jakdripr

Honestly I can see that happening. I mean he’s been averaging close to that for over a month now and he’s only 21. In spite of the horrible start to the season and some inconsistent play all season long he’s averaging 11 and 8 so I can honestly see 20-15/10 if not by next season, the season after that.

  • asifyouknow

Watching the Nets game I know its vs Orlando but they look beatable…Their guards are getting beat …that could be good…lol

  • asifyouknow

You think LeBron would like Toronto? It is across the lake from his home…

    • Steverino

  • Ted

Please no more Salmons. He didnt play a single minute in the 4th quarter and thats when we went on our run. I know Landry is out, so would rather play two PG’s and have Ross/Derozan at the three instead.

    • bobmasa

And he got A+ can you believe this, I think Zarrar Saddiq was dreaming.

      • GetLicks

The quick reaction was all in fun and not serious. Reading comprehension bruh

      • Regina Raps Fan

Honestly dude, did u not sense the sarcasm?

        • GLF

Why do you reply to yourself? Or do you guys just have the same name?

  • mountio

Looks like the Knicks are doing us a favour vs the Bulls tonight .. up 14 i the third. The question is, does Chicago even want to win now that it looks like Indy will lock up the 1st seed?
I much prefer the Wash first round matchup … but the Heat in the 2nd round (assuming we make it) is super, super tough

  • bobmasa

A+ everyone is this a joke????

    • GetLicks

How did you not get that it was written in jest? Wow. As I said above- reading comprehension.

    • Steverino

Totally serious. What, are you a hater or something?

  • GetLicks

NY up 17 in the 4th! Can’t believe I’m cheering for the Knicks

    • GLF

      LOL same!

  • Rapsfan

I wanted the playoffs more then tanking this year. Year after year after year of looking toward the summer n feeling depressed. I’m excited the basketball gods threw us, the fans a bone. Most wins in a season n will make some noise in the playoffs. I can’t wait

  • Paul

Did the Bulls lose on purpose tonight to avoid Miami in the second round?

    • Will

If the Bulls want Brooklyn just to avoid Miami, that would be fine with me. We can’t just look past the first round. With the way the Leafs ended the season last year, I’m not taking anything for granted.

    • Mexiballer

  • Zee

Bulls lose – we are back in 3rd!! I wonder if that is a blessing or a trap….dun dun dunnn!!!

  • Stephen

  • Andre Julian Ward

    RIP Singler.

  • Holyshit

Wow, good call Arse, Nando De Colo is 5th in the league for Distance Traveled per 48

  • Gary Gill

Raps better watch out bcuz we’re playing the Knicks again. These kind of teams r dangerous.

  • ad

Well, they have that 3rd seed again. Miami would be waiting in rd 2 if they get that far but i’ll take that. If they even got a series win, it would be a huge achievement this season. Im pretty sure they could not beat bkn.
