Brooklyn Nets 95 FinalRecap | Box Score 100 Toronto Raptors
Amir Johnson, PF Shot Chart 37 MIN | 8-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 9 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 2 BLK | 1 TO | 16 PTS | +12He’s clearly hobbled – he was keeling over during stoppages in play – but holy hell, did he work hard tonight. Had a couple of massive blocks that led to scores on the other end, and was extremely efficient on the offensive end. One play that stands out was an iso on the high block where he drove Pierce into the low post and bullied him out of the way for a lay-up. He’s going to have difficulties all series chasing the Nets’ stretch fours – tonight, it was Mirza Teletovic – but if he can play like that on the other end, he’s a huge help. His dunk at the end of the game = all the feels.

Terrence Ross, SF Shot Chart 25 MIN | 1-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 2 PTS | -8Ineffective for the second straight game on both ends of the floor. I’d imagine a lot of it is due to jitters – a lot of the shots he missed tonight were good looks – but he needs to step it up defensively for the Raps to continue justify playing him with the season on the line. The bright spot for him tonight was a gorgeous dish out of the lane that led to a Vasquez 3 in the second quarter.

Jonas Valanciunas, C Shot Chart 35 MIN | 5-9 FG | 5-7 FT | 14 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 5 TO | 15 PTS | -5There are plenty of rookie mistakes, yes – he bites on every pump fake the Nets throw at him – but man, what a difference maker when he’s out there. The Nets have nobody to battle with him on the boards, and he’s fully taking advantage of that. You have to love his compete level, too, which is absolutely Lowry-esque. Thus far, he’s the breakout star of the Eastern Conference’s first round.

Kyle Lowry, PG Shot Chart 38 MIN | 4-11 FG | 6-6 FT | 9 REB | 6 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 14 PTS | -2Rough, rough first half, but man, the guy has a sense of the moment, doesn’t he? Drew a charge late in the fourth and had some key hoops late that helped the Raptors put the game away. Even when he’s off, he’s on.

DeMar DeRozan, SG Shot Chart 38 MIN | 9-21 FG | 12-14 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 6 TO | 30 PTS | +7Rebounded from his game one stinker with a varied, effective offensive repertoire, complete with a statement dunk in the fourth quarter, where he carried the scoring load. Unfortunately, it’s everywhere else that he needs to improve if he doesn’t want to be a liability – Joe Johnson eviscerated him to the point that Fields needed to play crunch time minutes, and he finished the game with 5 fouls and 6 turnovers. That said, he’s trending upward from game one, which is a good thing moving forward. Was clutch at the end, hitting a litany of free throws to bury the game.

Patrick Patterson, PF Shot Chart 24 MIN | 5-9 FG | 1-2 FT | 9 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 12 PTS | +1He’s been an underrated key to the Raptors’ success since he came over in the Gay trade, and tonight, he was all over the floor. I loved seeing his relentless approach on the offensive glass. Bonus: he was the only Raptor without a turnover tonight. Like Amir, he has difficulties chasing the Nets around the perimeter, but the relief you have when the ball finds its way into his hands cannot be understated.

Landry Fields, SF Shot Chart 18 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 0 PTS | +8Casey, finally listening to the legions of Raptors fans who have been calling for it for weeks, decided to insert Fields into the rotation over Salmons, and he responded by playing lock down defense on Joe Johnson and snagging some tough rebounds. He was an underrated key to the Raptors’ overall effort tonight. Big stat: zero shot attempts. That presence of mind alone makes him a better option than Salmons. Excellent, excellent game.

Greivis Vasquez, PG Shot Chart 25 MIN | 5-10 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 8 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 11 PTS | +12Aside from Jonas, he’s the one player the Nets don’t really have an answer for on the offensive end. He’s been really effective as both a ball-handler and off-ball scorer in both games this series, and he’s managed to stay passable defensively, which is all you can ask of him. If Ross doesn’t heat up, he’ll become a bigger and bigger part of the Raptor game plan.

Dwane Casey
Made some questionable decisions – he took way too long before he switched DeRozan off Joe Johnson – but made some unconventional adjustments that made a big difference tonight. You can’t blame him for the Raptor turnovers, which is the only reason this game was close. Inserting Fields made a big difference, and he played the right 8 guys in a tight rotation.

Five Things We Saw

  1. Turnovers, guys, turnovers. The whole “first-time playoff jitters” thing is real, and it’s most evident when it comes to taking care of the ball: after 19 turnovers in game one, the Raps had 20 tonight. It’s remarkable – and a testament to this teams’ attitude – that they’ve managed to stay in both games (and win this one).
  2. That being said, the Raptors were the better team tonight and deserved the win. The possessions they lost on turnovers were gained back through rebounding, where everyone chipped in (final margin was 52-30, Raps). In a series that’s been decided by broken plays, so far, that’s a huge edge to have.
  3. The ACC crowd, again, was fabulous tonight. Kudos to the fans in the building, who are clearly making a difference to both teams. Once the Raptors shake off the jitters, you can tell the energy in the building fuels them. It was great to see the standing O late in the fourth (and the “KG sucks” chants were great, too).
  4. People will harp on the reffing, and they might have a point, particularly when it comes to Garnett getting bailed out every time he gets blocked (seriously, how much is he paying these refs?). However, the Raptors ended the game with 5 fewer fouls called against them that the Nets, and there were plenty of ticky-tack calls that went the Raptors’ way, too. Getting the Nets in the bonus early in the 1st quarter was key to building an early lead for the home team.
  5. 1-1, baby! Enjoy this one, Raptors fans – it’s been nearly six years since the team’s last playoff victory. Here’s hoping it’s only three days until the next one.

  • FuckBrooklyn

    Welp, that was dramatic

  • RaptorsKOR

    You guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Fxxx the Brooklyn!!!!

  • FREEJV

    WETHENORTH! FUCK BROOKLYN!!!!

    • Rapchat

      FUCK BROKELAND!!!!!

  • doncity

    Raps in five

  • SickNTired

To all you fans who have been calling for Fields for weeks….great call!!! JJ was nothing with Fields and a double team.

Also, casey…the iso play for demar in last play of game??? WTF. U almost cost us the game.

    GO RAPS!!!!!!

    • FuckBrooklyn

Like I have said forever, Fields offensively, will give you nothing, if anything maybe a couple rebounds and a put back, but defensively, he’s a beast, while Salmons is good at nothing.

      • FREEJV

lmaooo they left fields wide open after made basket so he could go to the line. casey wasnt having it and called timeout i was dying

        • KickPuncher

We had to draw up something for DeMar who was nailing every free throw at that point.

    • FREEJV

i was ready to go off on demar if they lost this game the guy was getting shat on on defense. thank god he made some clitchs shots

    • Ben Sol

I totally get demar’s weaknesses, but i think sometimes we dump all our frustrations onto him which is unfair. Lets not forget the two HUGE shots he hit on isos earlier in the fourth.

      • DandB

The clutch shots alone deserve an A- at least, but he needs to understand his weakness being the dribble (both shots we him pulling up and minimally dribbling), and Casey needs to run more shit for him where he keeps his dribbling to a minimum.

      • KJ-B

https://twitter.com/DonKJB/status/458806299686232064/photo/1 — he was the team tonight — I mean how many 4th Q points????

        • truth be told

Yeah,he got about 10 fts in foul time late in the 4th. When it mattered most he had 24 pts on 21 shots, 2 boards and an assist (to go with 5 turnovers).

He made those key ‘jumpers’ in between the ft and 3 pt line to preserve the lead late in the 4th. If he misses either of those shots (which were both bad looks) the storyline changes dramatically.

Just saying. I don’t just get caught up in boxscores.

    • Yoshi

As soon as DD started getting bullied in the 3rd I crossed my fingers and asked the basketball gods to bring in Fields…thank you for delivering!

      • Chewwy No Matthew

I think we all did. The basketball god’s were getting a lot of calls from the 416 and 905 area codes. LOL

  • Musik

Man that 3rd quarter had me raging out. Good game though. Glad DeMar showed up offensively and Laundry was a game changer defensively.

    • jjdynomite

      Laundry Fields Forever!

    • Musik

      Landry** Stupid auto correct. =)

  • Balls Deep

Who the fuck does KG think he is. All nets fan were shit talking about how KG was all that. JV is taking a shit on his chest cause he has Garnet up his ass

    • Philoveritas

Unless I am wrong I am pretty sure Garnett spit on Vasquez while he was down on the floor, which is what he got the tech for. That is pretty f’n classless.

  • FREEJV

LET LANDRY START AND ROSS OFF THE BENCH! ross is struggling and landry can guard jj

    • DanH

No thanks. No need to scuttle Ross’ confidence. He’ll come around. And Fields fits best in non-DD lineups.

      • FREEJV

nah trust he will gain confidence scoring against 2nd unit players. his confidence cant get any lower right now. but idk we ll see

      • FREEJV

problem is when we have ross and derozan on at same time they just pick on whoever is guarding johnson. cant do that with fields

        • Chewwy No Matthew

Very true. Neither can guard Johnson and offensively Fields does the little things right like set proper screens, make the right pass and he rebounded well. Ross will have less pressure coming off the bench

          • Rapchat

Starting LF would basically take out JJ for the first quarter. That’s a very good thing. Defence first in the playoffs, less pressure on TR, less fouls on TR, more POSTERIZING for TR.

          • Ghotte

The issue is that neither Ross nor Fields are making their defenders pay on the offensive end. If TRoss is hitting threes or taking the ball to the hole the whole talk of mismatch would pretty much go away. DD swung the pendulum in his favour during the 4th so was a net positive. JV was a beast BUT with so many turnovers or getting the ball stripped was in danger of being a liability. Worked out in the end though when he took whatever open shot was presented to him rather than forcing things.

      • Chewwy No Matthew

If we have to sacrifice what is our best and only matchup against JJ because of concerns of Ross losing confidence, then Ross isn’t being a team player and Casey is not doing what is best for the team. Ross has been terrible. The getting stripped after the rebound shows his lack of focus. He’s not hitting shots and he certainly is not stopping JJ. JJ had only 2 points with Fields covering him. My confidence is stopping JJ went sky high when Fields is in there. On another note, DeMar got chewed by anybody on the Nets he covered

    • afrocarter

It’s only been two games; give Ross time to settle in. I’d put money on Terrence going 6-10 from 3 at some point during this series.

      • Will

To add to FREEJV’s point, Ross can go 6 of 10 from 3, off the bench. He’d probably have a better chance at it too. Also, the biggest thing is to contain JJ, right now. He’s the only one hurting us right now and Ross just doesn’t have the size to bother him.

        • FREEJV

yep makes sense to bring him off bench but idk if casey will do it

    • Rapchat

I kinda like it. Have TR come in w GV perhaps. I think he might come in hungrier and more focused with specific minutes. I personally think his confidence is high as is and would understand that move..

    • MoPeteRules

honestly this is a good idea, ross just seems the most nervous at the beginning so maybe a little time on the bench in the beginning would let him settle in a bit better

    • mountio

Bad idea. The only way this team gets to the next level is with Ross stepping it up (both offensively and defensively). His ceiling is WAY higher and we need him. Yes, he has sucked the first two … but I feel a break out game coming from him…

  • Bob the Truthteller

Wow, what a game. DeMar was insane clutch. A b grade? Wow. Haha

    • Balls Deep

      Handles: F

    • Raps2014

He had 6 to’s and played horrible D it was an overall rating

      • Tinman

He was huge down the stretch.
It’s not unusual for a key ball handler to lead the team in TO’s. It’s kinda new to him. I give him some slack.
Bad as you want to call his D, Joe Johnson was 7-13 for 18 points. DeMar won the matchup hands down.

        • truth be told

Those 2 long jumpers were huge because they went down. Kudos to him. They were both bad looks and were not aggressive plays late in the game. When he did try to get aggressive, he dribbled the ball off his body.

He’s not a key ball handler. He is their volume shooter. Huge difference.

They attacked him defensively all night long and he coughed up the ball repeatedly. They got the win and he hit his ft’s down the stretch which dramatically made the boxscore look good in his favor, but only a couple of boards and an assist? He didn’t kill anyone last night. He got them some offence, but it wasn’t a dominating performance and he was a volume shooter, once again.

Joe Johnson took less shots and shot over 50%. Raps got the win so that’s all that matters but winning match-up hands down? Not so sure about that one.

          • Tinman

Them long two’s are a part of his game and I begrudgingly accept them because he gets to the line 8+ times a game.
Ball is in his hands more and more, and even more in late game situations. His turnovers frustrate the hell out of me but look at the leaders in TO’s – you’d be surprised who’s there.
And I didn’t see JJ in the fourth quarter.

            • FREEJV

thats cuz landry locked him down. he was abusing demar in the 3rd

    • Mexiballer

Yeah…I dont see how Demar gets a B when he makes two cold blooded jumpers and a bunch of free throws to win the game. I thought Lowry was big in the fourth too with a couple of drives to the basket.

      • CJT

Defense is my guess. He was great on the offensive end though. Great to see DD take it to them in the 4th.

        • Chewwy No Matthew

Very true. Demar was 5/16 until the 4th and was horrible on defence. He had a terrific 4th quarter but he also didn’t have to cover JJ anymore. Also DeMar had 6 turnovers including another dribble off his leg one late in the game. Definitely think a B is a good grade

    • Guest

Defence was not hot. He was getting burned so bad, I was relieved when he had a chance to sit. But when he came back in he won the game for us. It’s almost like he collected himself and delivered. So I agree. More than a B. It’s not like hitting all those shots and FTs is an easy task in playoff basketball.

      • Suspicious Mind

This was the first time all season I was calling for Derozen’s head leading into the 4th. Thank fuck he manned up, and shut me right up. Gotta give it to the guy for finishing the way he did today. Those cold blooded jumpers were the turning point, and if anyones played ball at any reasonably high level, you’ll know those free throws are not gimmies. We should all be very happy to see he had his coming out party last night, because if he plays well, we’re in a damn good place.

  • FREEJV

I LOVE YOU JVVVVVVVV! no homo

    • Aaron

I love him even if its all homo if he keeps playing like this

      • FREEJV

    • KickPuncher

I love how Vasquez is getting swept up in all this too. “We hate those guys”. He’s playing with so much confidence right now.

  • Junior Maurice

    Demar Defuckingrozan !!!!!!!!

    • Antoine Rose

      lmao

  • rapierraptor

    Jonas, you big beautiful beast.

    • Tinman

Still for a guy that hardly touches the ball – 5 turnovers.
But Boston, eh, the Nets got no one to match him on the boards.

      • FREEJV

they were doubling him in the post and leaving amir open at the3. needed ppat out there

        • rapierraptor

If only we still had Bargs! Jussssst kidding.

          • afrocarter

            LMAOOOO

          • FREEJV

he could guard teletovic . carbon copies of each other lmao. whoever makes more 3s wins

    • KickPuncher

JV has been killing the Nets on the boards. They have no answer for him at the moment.

  • Quest

    WHAT. A. GAME.

  • Z11

I love this team!! Thank you Jonas, thanks the Raptors! Greetings from Lithuania.

    • Jerry Garcia

      Thank You Brother !!

  • noname

well they had numerous problems in game 1, now they only have 2 remaining: T-ross’ play and turnovers. If they can fix both I think they can win this series.

  • FREEJV

man amir got bailed out. HOW DO U LEAVE PIERCE WIDE OPENNN FUCK AMIR MAN!!!!

    • rapierraptor

Hush. Amir worked his ass off all game.

    • FuckBrooklyn

Dont harp on the negatives, save the negatives for if they lose another game this series.

      • FREEJV

i know but if pierce made that everyone would be hatin on him so just saying pay attention nxt game

        • FuckBrooklyn

Ya, but it is a tough match up for Amir, but pry shouldn’t leave him that open for sure.

      • FREEJV

i was mad cuz he fell asleep not cuz he got screened.

    • CJT

I only saw the reply once, but it sure looked like KG gave him a pretty serious moving screen to keep PP open.
Or maybe that was the second one on Fields, can’t remember now.

      • CJT

Just watched it again and it was the play on Landry that I was thinking of. KG gigantic moving screen. Amir fell asleep on the one you mentioned.

    • afrocarter

Pierce went 2-for-11 from the field, mostly because of Amir. STOP COMPLAINING.

      • FREEJV

u would be complaining if hemade it. just saying cant leave a guy like that wide open. all this hardwork could ve gone for nothing but thank god he missed

        • jjdynomite

That’s what elite swingmen do, FREEJV — break themselves off screens or otherwise get themselves open by creating for themselves an open, or at least makeable, shot. Pierce is one of the best at this, and that’s why he’s going to the Hall of Fame and traditional PFs like Amir have little hope in containing them. If DeMar continues on his upward trajectory like he showed in the 4th Q tonight, he could get there.

And this is why teams have pecking orders, e.g Pierce is the starting F, Anderson on the bench. Because some can do and others can’t.

          • FREEJV

nah if u watch the replay amir fell asleep then he was like oh shit. watch and you ll see his reaction lmao

    • asifyouknow

freejv is there anyone on this team you like….lol

      • James Slim

        he likes JV

        • FREEJV

          true. and john salmons…… sike

          • CJT

            Psych. Actually.

  • webfeat

I’m just a tad annoyed that it took Casey this long to let Fields play. The guy has been excellent every time he’s been on the floor. He seems to be an extremely smart, athletic player and has the kind of persona that fits really well with the team. Casey’s preference for older vets is completely unfounded.

    • CJT

No, its founded on his experience. Doesn’t mean that it is right in this case, but the guy has a championship ring so he knows a bit more about winning than most of us.

      • Moewrawn

And yet it was the fans that called for Fields to play and that’s what seemed to turn the tide against Brooklyn… we’ll call it even between the fans and Casey 😉 lol

        • CJT

Not saying he was right to play Salmons instead, just saying he has history to base his decisions on. Not just being mean to Fields as so many seem to think.

          • Jerry Garcia

Maybe its a stroke of genius, let him heal…and then the unleashing…….hopefully…genus.

            • CJT

He sure looked strong on D tonight. Great adjustment and Landry delivered.

              • Ghotte

But you’ve gotta think that the Nets will leave Landry exposed on offense the next game if he gets in. One game you giveth, the next you taketh away…

                • CJT

I didn’t really feel like they were giving him much respect last night anyway. If they slack off on him too much, he can still make them pay on back cuts etc.

            • Jiles

That’s what I thought. Fields is our secret weapon…

          • mountio

“history” aka “stubbornness” … obviously his decisions are based on some rationale (hes not doing this stuff because he thinks it wont work), but it doesnt make it remotely right. Luckily hes playing JV heavy minutes, which he refused to do for much of the year. Imagine us without JV playing big mins this series??

            • milesleg

JV wasnt ready for heavy minutes when he was getting benched. He is turning it over in the playoffs, but the last month or two of the season he was really killing it on pick and rolls. When he was getting benched, he couldnt do anything in those situations. He learned, practiced, and earned his playing time and how he’s kicking ass. I don’t know I give Dwayne a pass on that one.

        • smh

Actually, it was Salmon’s back injury that opened the door for Fields

          • Dunkenstein

Also the fact that every time he got a shot he responded with strong play. I don’t care if Fields doesn’t score a point. If he plays tough D against JJ and gets us some rebounds, he should be a regular in the rotation.

    • cdub

yes he really should have gotten minutes at the end of the season just to see. he played March 2nd and had a pretty good game and then poof he was gone until now. hes so much more athletic than salmons.

    • Mexiballer

Thankfully thats now going to change. No salmons, Hayes or Hansbrough tonite (although I do like Hansbrough)

Its time to go with youth and athleticism. Lets see if Brooklyn can keep up.

    • asifyouknow

You mean your annoyed that Casey is an idiot..lol…me too!

    • James Slim

I said ages ago maybe Fields was being saved for the playoffs. Is it better to finish third and have him fit in the playoffs, or finish, well, third and not have him fit. X-factor!!

    • MrJames

Did nobody watch the post game?? Vasquez in the on court interview said Fields was hurt and Casey said the same thing in his post game interview. Apparently that off season surgery was not successful.

      • asifyouknow

He had a cold …not hurt

        • CJT

Both. He had another surgery during the season as well. He was also sick.

  • Andre

umm what game were you watching? Amir Johnson was not an -A.. he was more like a C. He made some big plays, but ineffective covering perice and that shooter dude (Tectivic) ?

    • Musik

He’s going to have trouble guarding him every game. Hes too fast for him and we have no one else besides Patterson since Laundry will now be put on Johnson probably the rest of the series.

    • Chewwy No Matthew

I agree with you. I noticed that Amir was caught watching as rebounds would come down and he was late. Teletovic had hit two long distance 3’s. He had the ball in front of Amir and he didn’t close out at all, thus watching dude hit his third 3. Amir has a ton of heart but I notice he has moments where he falls asleep.

    • Haim not Feldman

But bro, look at that awesome stat line again, which was accomplished in a must win game. Something cold hard stats don’t show is playing with pain. That alone should be worth one grade level. As for his defensive lapses, it is what it is. He gives more than he gives away, and let’s just hope he get’s healthier so his defence will return to form.

    • jjdynomite

Andre, I was at the game: Amir was boss tonight. He is obviously playing in pain, and his two massive blocks in the first half not only stopped Brooklyn runs but also riled up the crowd in a way that only a slam dunk in traffic can do. He gets ++ points for just those two blocks alone, plus the rest of his excellent stat line.

Yes his D on stretch 3/4s like Pierce and Teletovic was not great, but simply put, Brooklyn’s team makeup of big swingmen force Amir to play him, similar to how Amir had to play Durant, and got torched (even though he got his). It’s not fair (especially since he’s playing hurt) but that’s the way it is. It’s hard to dock the man points for giving 110% tonight (as opposed to Saturday where he admittedly shat the bed).

      • Rapchat

Inbounds play at the end to AJ for that slam to basically win the game= BOSS.

    • Suspicious Mind

Wait a minute? What the hell did Pierce do ALL game? Absolutely nothing!

  • Mark A

i realize i could google this, but do most other series have all these 3 day breaks? or this that another way the nets might be getting some extra help — not that i really believe donaghy

    • FuckBrooklyn

There’s no doubt in my mind that the NBA set that up because everybody in the national media and the NBA themselves want the Nets to play the Heat, but I’m not one for excuses, just up to the Raptors to destroy that dream.

  • Will

If Fields was on JJ in the third quarter, this would’ve been a comfortable win.

    • SickNTired

Gotta manage Fields minutes. The guy played more today than he has all year combined. Ha

      • Will

If only you could bank minutes, Fields would have enough to play all 48 for the rest of the playoffs.

    • FREEJV

derozan was pissing me off. allowing johnson to bully him. he always yells at JV when he doesnt double like shut up he has his own guy to guard also fuck!

      • FluxlandISAPEDOPHILE

shut the fuck up you little child

        • FREEJV

lol wtf calm your tits . if nets won this game u would be all over him for his defense so u stfu pls

      • GetLicks

That’s not a fault of Derozan as much as it is the size difference and JJ is bigger and stronger

      • Junior Qamar

Word I didn’t like when Derozan yelled at JV either. But derozan did come through tonight . This might of been the cluthest ive ever seen derozan in his career just happy its happening now.

      • Steverino

Yeah, also on that play, JV did shade over to help, but he’s not allowed to just stand in the middle of the key so he moved back to his man and that’s exactly when the smart JJ made his move. DeRozan needs to be a better teammate.

        • Ghotte

No, he hovered then went back to his man – twice. He either has to hedge or not. That’s one of the things that is screwing with the defensive rotations. Pure and simple.

      • Rapchat

Pissing you off??? Lemme tell you…that fucking guy better stop trying to penetrate and make to make lay ups and JAM THE FUCKING BALL IN THE BIG ORANGE RING. He’d get to the line 20 times.

      • Ghotte

He shouldn’t show JV up but this defensive breakdown is happening regularly. JV doesn’t seem to know when to contest and when not to and it’s leading to easy baskets. At this point in the season – and due to practices where these things are drilled into them – these breakdowns shouldn’t happen.

      • Guest

It depends. If JV is supposed to double and forgets or is late he should yell at him.

  • afrocarter

I think Casey has found his 8-man rotation.

    • Mexiballer

Yes. Maybe a dash of Hansborough once in a while to stir things up.

      • FluxlandISAPEDOPHILE

I really want to see him get into a fight with Garnett.

      • Ghotte

If Blatche gets more burn there’s no way Hansborough can guard him. JV is about the only player that can match up with him. Good thing Blatche is inconsistent.

    • Rapchat

Yeah man they looked pretty tight.

  • Philoveritas

Lol it seems that even three days isn’t enough rest for the old men of Brooklyn. The slow start had me worried for a few minutes, it looked exactly like the first Q of game one with only JV scoring…DeMar came up big…

    • noname

so true i was worried from the get go that they were going to let the game slip away.

  • afrocarter

If the Raptors ever figure out how to take care of the ball, this series will be as good as done.

    • Tinman

      Yup

  • Will

DeMar was clutch in the 4th but why so many iso plays for him?

    • afrocarter

Because he was clutch in the 4th I think

      • Will

But they started going to him even before he got hot. It’s like they tried to force him to get hot and I don’t think that’s the best strategy.

        • afrocarter

We won the game, didn’t we? How many 4th quarter points did DD end up scoring?

          • FREEJV

how many did he give up tho? i know he was clutch but this would ve been a blowout if he mans up on D a little. even anderson bullied him gotta be kidding me

            • FluxlandISAPEDOPHILE

You know nothing about basketball. Just do yourself and everyone else here a favour and shut the fuck up.

              • FREEJV

                fuck you . bye

                • Steverino

FREEJV is right, though. His defence was atrocious and the Nets knew it. They kept going at him.

            • CJT

Maybe you don’t appreciate it, but Anderson has one of the best first steps going. He is very quick on the bounce.

              • FREEJV

demar is 10 years younger and more athletic. needs to put in more effort. cant let guys bully you in the post and expect JV to bail you out everytime on drives.

                • Ghotte

it’s called team defense for a reason.

                • FREEJV

sometimes you gotta guard your man 1 on 1. demar didnt do that yesterday

                • Ghotte

Sometimes you do. MOST of the times you need your teammates. When Dallas won their ring it was due to team defense. Same with the KG/Pierce Celtics. Sure there’s individual responsibility but often you have to funnel your man to a shot blocker or 2nd defender.

      • Steverino

Not when he dribbled it off his foot, he wasn’t. The point being, share the ball, then get it to him through movement. Don’t rely on him to make the move.

  • Tinman

A huge win, and feeling great coming out with the split at home.
Am worried that as a team, we haven’t really played solid two way ball for close to a month now, but fortunately, neither has Brooklyn.
    Now the series begins.
    Fuck Brooklyn!!

  • ValanInuyashaSSS

Unfortunately Ross still looked like a kid on the floor.

    • Tinman

      Well, he is.
      It’ll come, hopefully in Brooklyn.

  • Ds

The charge/block calls by the refs were all good. However, some of the non-calls on the Nets are driving me bananas, especially Plumlee and Garnett. Dudes have to take a gun out and shoot somebody before they get called for a foul. Meanwhile, I don’t know how our Raptors are able to keep their mouths shut. They seem to be about to explode every time a shit call goes against them, but come back and hustle again.

The Raps will have to fight tooth and nail to get this series.

    • CJT

Thought the officiating was much better tonight in general. the calls at least seemed to be more consistent. Lots of no calls both ways at times.

  • chacha166

I love how the General hypes the crowd after a big shot

  • Aaron

What a game. We need to take atleast one in BK tho… One minor complaint about demar…. Actually its kinda major…. STOP playing so close to your man so that they blow right by you. The JJ matchup i dont blame you on because you are not near as strong but the AA and other matchups? Please get a little better defensively as the series goes on. And finally a random Landry Fields appears and guess what? He played amazing defence and hustled hard on the boards.

  • Z- Rap- Money

Jonas: What do you think of KG trash talking?
    JV : I don’t understand English!
    Toronto standup!!!!

  • RobertArchibald

Garnett just included the Raptors in a group of teams that consisted of “pre-school, little league, and YMCA”. Total disrespect. He also complained and said the Nets got zero calls down the stretch. Not sure which game he was playing in, but that little league team just played 5 against 8 and still won.

    • ioan1491

seems that at first we got their curiosity, perhaps now we have their attention. with all that it entails :) they’re gonna be even more aggressive, motivated, “whistled” on, and their crowd will be powerful. Raptors are about to show us what they’re made of.

  • ValanInuyashaSSS

Off topic a little, DJ Augustine is playing like D-Rose right now, maybe one of the mistake made by Masai

    • afrocarter

Nah. Vasquez is playing like a G right now, so no complaints from me.

      • JonasBrutha

This. As much as I like to hate on Vazquez, even I’ll admit that the kid is fearless. Reckless at times, but fearless nonetheless and it’s contagious.

    • The Red Fury

he does not fit into this team whatsoever. He’s a jacker whose lucky the rest of the team has been trained very hard in Thibs defense.

      • asifyouknow

Where do you fit ? No in the basketball knowledge department for sure! lol

        • The Red Fury

You are an extremely intelligent person who basis comments off of fact-based analysis and in-depth introspection.

          • asifyouknow

We are even…lol…I don’t like AJ

    • FREEJV

greivis played good today too. cant have 3pgs.

    • Will

Yeah, but what can you do. If we kept him and waived Buycks or Stone, there’s a good chance him and Vasquez would be fighting for minutes and neither of them would be playing well.

      • asifyouknow

Let me give you a hint. If Casey stays Vaz is gone…There will be high demand for PG next season both Kyle and Vaz will seek better pastures the Raptors wont pay the money.. Kyle will probably want 10+ Rap not going to pay.

        • CJT

yes they will. He is worth at least 10m per season. Hopefully GV will stay as well, I think this is a very good situation for him.

          • asifyouknow

If the Pelicans Evans and Holiday are worth 10 mill each then Kyle is worth lots more …but I don’t think they will pay ten mill…Unless they win the championship…lol…lol

            • CJT

I think with the salary cap going up significantly that might have an impact on that decision. I think the combo of Kyle and GV is probably one of the strongest in the league, that is worth paying for. I like that GV can play on or off the ball, Kyle seems to be ok with GV playing point when they play together and there is basically no drop off when on of them sits to rest. Very valuable. I know you want GV to be a starter, but I hope he sees the value in his role here. He basically gets starters minutes overall. We’ll see I suppose. Beside you have to admit you love coming on RR and stirring up the Torontonians. You would miss it if GV went somewhere else.

              • asifyouknow

I agree…I been doing this a long time and you guys (most) can talk about things In a smart way and offend without being offensive that is an art.. 90% of you guys get an A+ for that.
In my mind if you play over 25 minutes you are a starter.. That term went out a long time ago…lol..Future Hall of Famer Mano is not a starter…lol

        • Abused Raptors Fan

What are you talking about?! What makes you think there will be such a high demand for pgs? The teams who have cap space don’t need a starter (or might draft one of the 2 quality prospects) or arent preferable to the Raptors and a lot of the teams that could use an upgrade don’t have the cap space. Also, I don’t see both Lowry and Vasquez leaving anyway, as if they don’t resign Lowry (and unless its over $12 million a year that probably doesn’t happen unless he wantsto leave) vVasquez is a RFA and they’d match any reasonable offer or be left with no one.

        • Steverino

I wonder how much loyalty will play into Vasquez (and Ujiri)’s decision. They have a history together from when Vasquez was a teenager.

          • asifyouknow

He told vaz years ago that he was going nto play for him and here we are….Wrong coach though but maybe they get it all worked out. The stats with Vaz and Lowry on the floor are through the roof …look them up..

        • Ghotte

Raptor’s Official Insider! (And if you are wrong on ANY of your crystal ball pronouncements…?)
Guess that’s why they call it “shooting the sh#t)

          • asifyouknow

Crystal ball is as good as anything, have you been listening to all the ESPN and NBA experts? There are better takes here than those guys…lol

    • Rapchat

DJ threw bricks tonight. CHI down 0-2. BKN did us a favour and a half . Wiz look scary.

  • bobmasa

I was crying since the beginning of the season regarding Casey favoring John Salmon over Landry Fields today we have seen the facts after fans pressure him, this coach has to give public apology to Fields for bury him on bench all this time .

    • Haim not Feldman

Mos def. Some teams have their defensive specialists a la Reggie Evans. If this is the role for Landry “Mrs.” Fields, so be it, besides he may give us some key buckets here and there.

  • Mexiballer

Raptors out rebound Brooklyn 52 to 30. Let them play small ball. Kyle Lowry had 9 rebounds.

  • AZ

I attended game one, and it and it was great to still hear the “Bullsh$t” and “KG sucks” chants sitting at home. DeRozan had a lot of trouble tonight, but I forgave him immediately after that awesome dunk. Maybe just the emotional fan in me.

  • The Red Fury

I was at the game tonight. Those first few minutes of the game were brutal. They looked like a bunch of guys playing together for the first time. Then JV started getting the ball and set the tone. I cannot say enough about this young man. He calmed the nerves of the entire team. Once he got going, the rest of the team looked like themselves again (minus TRoss whose worse play was in the 4th when he got stripped after grabbing the rebound after not protecting the ball).

Landry, thank you! You knew he was playing great D when Joe Johnson shot an airball 3 trying to shoot over him. He fit into the rotation perfectly and did a few high IQ things that probably went unnoticed to the casual watcher.

Demar. Clutch FT’s. You played like the all-star you are in the 4Q.

Kyle, you dove and the crowd went nuts. We love you.

Overall, great game. Just wish the fans would come up with some better chants other than Dfense / KG Suck / Let’s Go Raptors, it was getting old by the 2nd half, but the energy was insane! Let’s get creative!!!

    • JonasBrutha

Ross had a bad game, but I’m pretty sure that stripping incident was Patterson. Agree with everything else you said :)

      • Chewwy No Matthew

It was Ross who got stripped. Definitely!

      • Steverino

        Nope, it was Ross.

    • Minks77

I keep hoping they’ll play “NO. SLEEP. TILL—” and the crowd finishes “FUCK BROOKLYN”

    • jjdynomite

You mean you didn’t appreciate the “BULL-SHIT!” chant during the horrid 3rd quarter of blind-ref-missed-call-followed-by-makeup-call?

Too bad AAnderson has been fortunately (for Brooklyn) reduced to a bit player or a “METHOD-MAAAAN”, “METHOD-MAAAAN” chant would be fun, kind of like how Chris Anderson gets Birdman. Although it’s kind of obscure for non-Wu heads.

      • The Red Fury

That Bull-shit chant was weak and never picked up steam like the other ones. I would like for the fans to come up with more taunts like ‘KG sucks’. Calling out the players I feel are the best one.

    • Jerry Garcia

Thanks for this ….Great on site summary !!…from what I could glean creative vibes were occurring in the Square…..I salute those fans….so groovy !!…..

  • RobertArchibald

I am the first to chirp Casey, but I have to give him props for inserting DeMar back into the game with 5 minutes to go while he had 5 fouls. A lot of coaches would have sat him longer. That, and the Landry over Salmons decisions were turning points.

    • Rapchat

pretty sure it was 3 minutes no??

  • steve fisher

Congrats on a super gutsy comeback win!! Finally they replaced a one trick pony TR with a complete experienced and tough player who has been WASTED on the bench for much of the year LF .Despite his great clutch scoring they should dangle DD on the trade market for a better all round player who can play good DEFENSE rebound , and set up teammates with with good passes for assists. DD is a one trick pony (score ) but after you detract all his turnovers few rebounds or assists and weak defense his net game is not all that great. GO RAPS Go!!!

  • Will

For those attending game 5, we need to start a PLAY LANDRY FIELDS chant.

    • bahram

its fans like u who ruin the gameplan. Let the damn man run the show
i say we have to shout out Plumlee diss

      • Will

If by game plan, you mean to let JJ torch us in the third until we lose the lead, then yes, I would really like to ruin that plan. I’m not nitpicking over something subjective. Since Fields has come back from injury, he’s been nothing but effective. Yet Casey insists on nailing his ass to the bench. He was a +8 in under 18 minutes without taking a shot today. You tell me why he hasn’t been getting Salmons’ minutes.

        • CJT

He was good tonight. I was happy to see him be successful. I would love it if was able to contribute on the offensive end a bit, but for now the lockdown D was huge.

          • Steverino

The team doesn’t need (or want) him to contribute offensively. That’s why the bulk of the shots go to Lowry and DeRozan, with Valanciunas and Vasquez (the mighty V’s) chipping in. I’d rather Fields take shots that come to him than try to force things. He can score but he knows his place.

            • Steverino

Check that. Make it The Killer V’s. Somebody print up a t-shirt stat!

            • CJT

I’m talking drive and kick open 3’s etc. not wanting him to force anything.

      • Mexiballer

I think Landy!…Landry!…Landry! would sound a lot better. But he is going to play regardless.

  • tweed8

So at 6:10 this evening, I get a call from my cousin who met Tim Leiweke on the subway yesterday; We’re going to the game.
After talking to my cousin yesterday, Tim gives my cousin a business card and tells him to email him. My cousin follows up and today he received an email from Tim and Tim’s assisstant telling him there are tickets waiting for us at real sports apparel.
We rush down and collect them and spend the next few hours screaming. Great win! Amazing night!

Sorry for the choppy story, I am in a bar but felt the need to share here. Go Raptors.

    • afrocarter

      Lucky bastard. Congrats!

    • Ashwin

      Oh dude, that’s amazing!

    • Minks77

      that’s awesome!

    • Will

Wow, that is amazing. I’m surprised Leiweke takes the subway.

      • tweed8

He told my cousin he lives at Yonge and Bloor with his family, so taking the subway for him is a no brain’er. Just one of those little things that is making me want believe management is really in it to win it. Awesome night! Something, I will never forget.

On a sad note, I lost my game ticket. I don’t know why I didn’t stick it in my wallet.

        • FREEJV

          were they courtside?

          • tweed8

Ha. I wish, but they were nice anyway. Section 107 row 7. Few feet from one of the cameras. Honestly, I was expecting nose bleeds and would have been happy with that.

            • FREEJV

my conspiracy of the day: Raptors have a deal in place with Wiggins that after his contract he ll sign with toronto and toronto in return is giving him all these courtside seats. i know he dont got courtside seats money especially for a raptors playoff game.

              • tweed8

Maybe, but Drake has been quoted saying, that Wiggins is apparently friends, so there is no way he’ll leave the kid without tickets to every game, if he has the power to take care of that.

    • Jose

That’s awesome man. Cheers from Halifax!

      • tweed8

        Cheers.

    • MyManD

Today I learned the most powerful man in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the largest and most influential sports company in Canada, takes the freaking subway.

      Awesome.

      • smh

probably faster most days from yonge and bloor (I’m guessing somewhere near Yorkville?) to Union. pretty awesome though.

  • Jake

What wrong with Ross? His been terrible for these two games.

    • jakdripr

Probably just jitters. And unlike JV, he has to deal with some VERY good players at his position. You can see it in JV as well, I think he had 6 turnovers tonight, I mean 6 turnovers for a centre is just unheard of. I’m certain as the series goes on Ross will shape up.

      • FREEJV

        5*

        • jakdripr

Thanks for that correction, it really changed the overall point of my post.

    • asifyouknow

They need to get him some confidence,, get him some open threes early…let him play with Vaz so he can get him some open threes…

  • joelmueller

I thought the rotations were pretty solid overall today. I thought it took some real guts to stick with fields. Very reliable player though. The best bet for this team is to have derozen start on JJ and run a double team at him everytime and leave Livingston open. Do that the first six minutes and get Fields in their quicker. Take JJ out of the series and our chances are much better. The only thing I disliked is the last 3 minutes. I thought JV should have been in the game guarding KG and had amir on Pierce. We got lucky with Patterson falling asleep on guarding the three, mind you Amir is guilty of that too. Offence defence subbing was good near the end though.

  • Zack

8 man rotation was a huge factor

  • KJ-B

B For DeRozan?!?! U officially on crack, like: https://twitter.com/DonKJB/status/458806299686232064/photo/1 — DeRozan DeChozen he owned #PartyinTheSquare 2nite… So different when you watch at home…

  • Chewwy No Matthew

It’s clear that Ross is not playing well on either end of the floor. Fields did an incredible job on Johnson. Bottom line, to keep the effective flow going, Fields has to start next game. It’s clear that he is the only raptor that can limit JJ so unfortunately Ross has to come off the bench. If there is concern about Ross getting his feelings hurt than he isn’t a team player. Fields was as responsible for this win as anybody. JJ was eating DeMar alive

  • asifyouknow

Great play by all!!! Toronto will beat this OLD OLD GOATS!!! lol

Casey slams Vasquez on national television about his defense, what an ungrateful and miserable man he is!

You can view the clip. True or not, a serious coach don’t pull this shit in the middle of a playoff run, you don’t slam a guy like that. I know he does not want that guy in his team, he’s the GM’s guy. (just guessing )

Lets do the math the last two games:
*Every time Vaz comes in the offense goes from a bunch of turnovers to a settling effect.
*Every time Vaz comes in it becomes a booster shot, the team improves.
*Three turnovers (two games) in starter type minutes on a team who has had close to FORTY turnovers (two games).
*In two games 29 points 16 assists and a whole bunch of big plays including today’s inbound winning assist to Johnson.

Casey should know, AND BE EMBARRASSED, that he got out coached by a CHILD COACH in the first game, it had nothing to do with anybody’s defense.

Casey got punked by a rookie coach because Casey did not have the ability to settle his team down. He wants to blame it on something other than himself.

He should thank Vaz for bailing his ass out that first game because he could of easily gotten his ass routed by a coach who is still in dippers.

DeMar might have the right idea, he went to the end of the bench and had nothing to do with his little meeting after they took him out.

All of Casey’s coaching decision have been force by the situation, I believe he has to play Vasquez and even though everybody in the world knew that Landry would do a good job he only played him when he had no other choice, and guess what ? It worked, as far as I’m concern Landry had the play of the game, that turnover he created changed the game.

    • feylines

i read too many asifyouknow posts and now i cheer whenever g is bringing it up the floor

      • asifyouknow

Well good …. I wonder how good this team would be with a real good coach.
What in the hell is Landry doing in the bench?
Somebody please explain this to me…..!!!! Imagine how helpful this guys would of been with about ten games under his belt before the playoffs.

        • Pedro-

I assume you are in a better position to judge that than the coach who has garnered numerous votes as one of the top 3 coaches in the league by experts who make a living out of analyzing basketball games.

          • asifyouknow

Yea Pedro Casey is the next Pops…..but we are fans and fans have opinions …we can agree on that ……right?

        • Jun Kim

well he was out with the flu. Maybe he wasn’t fully ready yet.

          • asifyouknow

            Yea.. he had a 3 month flu…lol

    • Minks77

Vasquez turns the ball over all kinds, can’t handle a simple trap and takes the worst shots. It’s great when they drop like they did tonight but when they aren’t it just kills everything they are trying to do. His total turnstile D just makes it even worse,

      • Minks77

all that I said I really like GV

      • asifyouknow

What game have you been watching? …Turn off the PlayStation and comment when you get serious.. only man allowed in this conversation ..Please

        • Minks77

I don’t play video games, I am watching the games and I don’t dick ride. Son.

What I said is true. When he’s on man he’s on. He’s a good player. But not the kind I really wanna live and die with making risky as shit “lookit me” plays while getting killed on D.

          • asifyouknow

True ..I would bench his ass.

          • Steverino

For a minute I thought you were talking about DeRozan. That fits him to a T, too. Risky as shit “look at me” plays (usually resulting in a fumble) while getting killed on D (like he was tonight).

      • CJT

GV has been a difference maker for the Raps since the trade. He works extremely hard on D to make up for his lack of foot speed and his playmaking is first rate. He is a great compliment to Lowry and we are lucky to have him. I hope he stays with us for many years to come.

        • Steverino

Agreed. And I love his confidence. The look on his face inbounding against Garnett was priceless. Total confidence. (Now imagine Salmons or DeRozan inbounding the ball then… shudder.) Vasquez is one reason this team is not only so good, but so fun to watch.

        • Ghotte

He is one of maybe two players that seems unfazed by the bright lights of the playoffs! But he’s also a ticking time bomb. Can’t fault anything he’s done so far this series though.

    • FREEJV

him and demar are the worst defenders on the team theres no denying it anyone who watches the game can see this

      • asifyouknow

Did you see Lowry tonight and Saturday he is terrible ..point is… you don’t slam a guy who is helping you in a playoff run, if you don’t like something bench him and shut up. ..I’m a 45 year plus sports fan, a true coach does not do that at any level..

        • Philoveritas

Lowry looked terrible on D tonight, I think it was Brooklyn’s game-plan to run him off of hard screens and make him look bad. Deron was open all night long. It might have got into Lowry’s head a bit. Before the series started the Nets players were all commenting on focusing on Lowry and after Kyle went off in game 1 Kidd and Co. really amped up that plan. That meant taking the focus off of DeMar.

          • Ghotte

Lowry clearly wasn’t himself tonight BUT I don’t recall Deron Williams scoring much or having much of an impact in the 2nd half. Anyone else notice this?

            • asifyouknow

Lowry got lots of rebounds…he did ok

        • Mexiballer

Stop your whining. Good coaches say things like that publicly for certain players that dont always respond to the same criticism privately. Casey has been calling out TRoss off and on all year to remind him and motivate him to play defense. You especially do it for a player like Vasquez who can have his head in the clouds half the time. I thought you were a Spurs fan. I remember when Popovich used to talk call out Tony Parker publicly in his early years to motivate him to play the game the right way. Your 45 plus years as a sports fan is proof that time does not equal knowledge or intelligence.

          • FREEJV

            ooh kill em 😮

          • asifyouknow

YEA PARKER DID SAY HE USED TO MAKE HIM CRY…LOL…SO YOU SAYING CASEY IS POPS…LOL….remember Parker was a 19 year old Vaz is a grown man, veterans get respect and get pounded by a coach behind closed doors. Everybody knows that!

        • Ghotte

ANY of the top coach would call out their players or team when it’s clear there’s more to give. Pops and Jackson and Van Gundy were masters of this type of motivation. Betcha Vogel wishes he had done this a couple months ago.

    • bobmasa

Good assessment on Casey he is just a lucky man the fact is he dosnt deserve to be even as an assistance coach, we dont need him next season.

      • Ghotte

Guess you like the Babcock era of basketball…clueless

    • Rapchat

You said it brother. But DC can say what he wants, you know it doesn’t affect him. Greatest Asset Is AWESOME. Nobody’s perfect and for all the people who get nervous when GV is on I simply don’t understand it. Especially the way he’s played of late. The guy is pretty much unstoppable on O. Was on BKN boards, they FEAR GV, with good reason. Plus his post practice interview he had all the reporters on a string. He’s SO FUNNY. That inbounds was brilliant. Another MILITANT effort all around!!!!! AJ was HUGE too and that stuff he had on Pierce?.. was incredible. 20 turnovers????? UGGHHHHHHH Coulda been a 20 point win, and no heart attacks….PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!

      • asifyouknow

Rapchat welcome to the cult…lol…you get it some people don’t …are you an ex-tERP FAN..

        • Rapchat

HAHAHA if by cult you mean people with 2 eyes and a basic understanding of winning…than yes, absolutely!! Not ex terp fan btw…

          • asifyouknow

Now there is two of us…Lets build a city one by one….lol…I think Casey is gone anyway and Vaz is U’s boy so he probably stays…

            • Terp dis

    • Bryan Colangelo

The good thing about Vasquez is that he’s fearless.

The bad thing about Vasquez is that he’s fearless.

A bit of criticism on about how the defense could be better isn’t bad coaching. It’s great coaching. He’s keeping his freelancing, over-confident point guard and the rest of the team from getting ahead of themselves. The team isn’t playing close to optimal.

      • Ghotte

Agreed. They keep playing well for 4-6 minutes stretches in these games and haven’t played to their ability for an entire quarter let alone a half. They need to tighten up all facets of their defense, their offensive flow and sets. If they put things together they can bury the nets but it won’t be easy.

      • asifyouknow

Bryan great comment and mostly true but he is so much fun to watch…lol…..I can tell you this I’m not paying a dime to go see an NBA game where the final score is 55 to 45 as Casey appears to have as his goal….

  • feylines

dude in front of me dropped his pants and was swinging his dick around when the raptors went up 6 late in the 4th. section 311

    • asifyouknow

Are you a girl or a guy?

  • nickfromtime

Fields came in and delivered with some great defense, solid off the ball movement, and just general savvy. But the only person who didn’t expect this from him was unfortunately the coach of the team. This game from Fields proves that whatever reason Casey had for crazy-gluing him to the bench was indeed a STUPID one and who knows how more refined our defense could have been this whole time had we just granted Landry more minutes at the wing or the smallball 4…. #FreeLandry was a resounding success!

    • Steverino

Exactly. His naysayers say it’s because he’s a dud on offence. But the Raptors really only have three players they want taking the bulk of the shots so it’s good to have a role player who does other things and doesn’t look to shoot.

      • Ghotte

But that’s the problem. The Raps are way, way less effective when they have only two people scoring. When they share the ball they are almost unstoppable. I’m a LF backer and actually called for him to start during the regular season but with TR actually contributing down the stretch in the season, the need for Fields was lessened.

  • Adriiian

We will snag one of these games in BKN. I guarantee it.

    • Rapchat

I seriously think next game is ours. Will they have the outdoor party? Cuz that would be lame cutting to outside of Barclays and its empty HAHA

  • ace5950

Landry truly did make a difference, so happy he got some time

  • jjdynomite

Just got home from the game, no thanks to the Church Street parking-garage from hell, in which the attendants ultimately let the cars exit *for free* because their meters were busted. Notes:

    1. Props Garrett for calling attention to the crowd… what intensity! I’m going to be eating Halls all day tomorrow. It really is something special to attend a live playoff game (well, except if it’s like the Bucks vs. the Heat first round demolition last season) and everyone should try to do this once.

    2. Zarar, I think I saw you on the 300 level at the half as my cousin and I were enjoying brewskis at those mini-tables; I was concerned that Lowry was playing passively (2 points in the half, I think) and was wondering if he could penetrate Livingston and Deron’s D and get open buckets in the 2nd half. You piped up, “Nah, Lowry’s playing well”, and you were correct. Then you walked away before I could call out “Hey, Arse, is that you?” On second thought, maybe it’s better I didn’t.

    3. Two massive blocks from Amir plus two massive double-doubles in a row from our stud sophomore Jonas. Sure, Brooklyn’s interior D is nothing to write home about, but JV could easily have turtled from the playoff atmosphere (like unfortunately T-Ross has done), but he is living up to his billing and then some. Colangelo’s best move ever.

Speaking of massive, I just flipped through 120+ comments and nothing (yet) from FLUXTARD. Hey, FLUX, come out wherever you are, JV’s dick is ready for you to ride.

/not that I have anything against your lifestyle choice. (You’re still a troll bitch).

JV did good for a sophomore. But people are easily overlooking his costly turnovers. We can’t afford to have 5-6 turnovers from a non-ball handler.

      • Ghotte

Problems occurred when he tried to force things that weren’t there. He has to get the ball and make a quick move and live with it.

      • FREEJV

if he gives me 16&16 average ill live with the turnovers.

    • ckh26

Was thinking the same thing on the highly argumentative fluxy…250 plus comments and not a peep from him as the raps won last night. Guy would argue with mother theresa on the merits how she is helping the poor. Thats just his schtick. Toronto city council beckons as the guy to replace Adam Vaughan.

  • Joaquin

someone needs to tell paul “clutch” pierce that you can’t buy rebounds at costco or walgreens.

    • Rapchat

I like this comment very much.

  • vino

was glad to see DD sit and Fields get into the action! the whole ACC is rocking again!!

  • bahram

    1. Good win – heart stopped when pierce shot that 3.
    2. We need to give up less O-reb. We outrebounded them but I felt they had some key offensive rebounds, especially plumlee
    3. I think we could take Gm3 or 4.
    4. Wow at Washington. Chicago’s defensive intensity is no different in the playoffs than in the regular season LOL

  • Eunys

KG wants revenge in Brooklyn!!! wait until JV eats you alive….Why can t Ross plays like his best friend Terrence Jones (with intensity)..the guy is always lost on the floor..He should not start a game until he stop sleeping on the floor. Landry Fields thanks for apologizing on hitting on Dwayne Casey’s wife.

Man, the raps juuuusssttt barely got by bkn. Everything is so much easier for bkn on offense. The raps have to scramble for everything and bkn has tons of wide open looks. Really dont see raps winning this series but hope im wrong. Ross was a complete non factor and if im casey, I cut his minutes until he shows something. Maybe start fields and bring ross off the bench. Lowry was clutch as always and have to give dd and amir credit for bouncing back.

  • Rapchat

    Great team win.

  • Chewwy No Matthew

After Dwayne Casey made the odd quote Saturday “if our fans are disappointed, they are not real fans”, I was looking forward to tonight’s. Here are some gems.
    1) On the teams strong 4th quarter play. ” Earlier in the season, we said we wanted to be the Freddy Kruger of the NBA, not give up, not give in”.
    HUH?
    2) On DeMar sitting by himself away from the team during a 4th quarter timeout.
    – “Just like they were talking about who was in the crowd, I didn’t see it”.
    – “we have a rule, we want guys around the huddle”
    – ” DeMar is the Ultimate teammate”
    – ” If he was being defiant, that’s a first”
    – ” I didn’t even notice it, it didn’t bother me”
How can you as a coach not notice when your star player is being defiant during a timeout?
    3) On Landry Fields:
    – ” he was good in practice as you told me”. This was said to the reporter who asked the question.
    – ” Landry gave us energy, made guys work, he didn’t stop anybody”
What freaking game was Casey watching? Looked like Landry stopped JJ to me. Am I missing something?
    4) ” I thought that Paul and Joe tried to go to work on us, I thought we did a pretty decent job”.
Actually, every Raptor did a horrible job on JJ but Landry Fields did a terrific job.
    5) In response to a reporter saying he went with a real short bench tonight.
    – ” The main adjustment personnel wise used was Fields, I thought he would give us some energy”.
    – ” Next game it might be different, it was Landry tonight, maybe Chuck Hayes next game. Right now season’s in the moment. Next game could be 12/15 guys.
If Dwayne Casey decides to get cute and put in Chuck Hayes and sit Fields for the whole game like Saturday, then Masai better not bring him back to coach next season. Getting cute has cost Casey this year and this move would be just plain stupid.
    6) On Amir’s better game tonight:
“Maybe it was the 1230 start on Saturday”
If your players cannot get energized for a playoff game due to the time, then there are bigger issues at hand.
    7) On Vasquez:
“We watched film on Saturday’s game and his defence was not up to snuff”
Casey is right but I find it pathetic that he can say his defence is poor but can’t say that Fields played incredible defence.

At the end of the day, it is clear the Raptors win in spite of Casey. This also pretty much ensures that Landry Fields will not start which is a tricky one but my concern is Landry not playing at all or not much and Hayes getting playing time along with Salmons. It wouldn’t surprise me because Casey seems to have a hate on for Fields and Hansborough and a severe man crush on Hayes and Salmons. I hope to be wrong and Fields is matched up against JJ the rest of the way

    • Ted

Yup. Winning a game doesn’t allow Casey to get away scott free. His comments were ridiculous.

Game 3 is gonna be huge for Casey’s career as a Raptor. Adjustments will be made by the Nets and Raps have to respond.

    • Bryan Colangelo

On Number 5, of course he’s going to keep playing Landry Fields until it stops working. He’s straight up lying, and trying to keep his game plan ambiguous on purpose.

The reporter asked, “It seems like a short rotation worked well, are you going to stick with it?” He’s not going to give a straight answer and make Kidd’s job easier. That reporter should feel stupid for asking a question no coach in his right mind would answer honestly.

  • ByFarBYFARBYFAH

Its nice to see Fields finally getting some much needed love after being shit on by this site and Raptors fans repeatedly for the better part of this season

  • Rapchat

“We can’t have 4th quarters like that,” Kevin Garnett said. “Thirty-six points. That’s too many points for anybody. Preschool, Little League, YMCA, Raptors.” Eat it bitch. I LOVED seeing you cry all night long..

    So 21 T/O’s and we WIN ?
OK Then. Can hardly wait to see what happens when this team actually plays well.
Now that we know they can play with them.
Most of everything I want to say has already been said but …
DD showed what he needs to work on in the offseason :DE-FENCE !!! Man was he bad on JJ. Also gotta say he’s turning into a bit of a WHINER out there, so in case you don’t get it Demar ,it looks BAD on you.
But I LOVE how it looks on that washed up b*tch KG.
And is he even MORE of a dirty player now that he can’t defend legitimally.
Laundry – someone tell me how he can play 18 mins., NOT TAKE OR MAKE 1 SHOT and yet be a factor. Can you imagine if this guy wasn’t damaged goods and could actually SHOOT ? Apparently he is our only perimeter defender, he’s gotta be on JJ if the Raps are going to win this series.

  • Why

What Garnett gets away with are moving screens that free up The Nets guards. He might be called 1 time out of 10. This is hugely impactful.
Bringing in Fields to guard Johnson is similar to what happened in the 2007 Play-offs where MoPete was dusted off to guard VC when none of the regular rotation players were up to the task.

Woke up this morning and grabbed my phone to check my-mail, it took about 5 minutes to update. My dear god did not know there were so many Casey maniacs on this site responding to my take…lol… You all love that Casey…lol

  • Dunkenstein

Brooklyn can’t beat the Raps if we don’t beat ourselves. plain and simple…Take away the 10 extra turnovers we’ve given up each game and it’s easily a 2-0 series. More Fields. Love his strong, steady presence out there. His battling attitude, quickness and tough rebounding are a must for the rest of the playoffs. Less Ross if he isn’t hitting on all cylinders early and more Fields. We need to keep DD away from JJ. Too big and strong for him. I think he’d do better covering Livingston. Keep crashing the boards Raptors. There isn’t much they can do against our bigs when we’re aggressive on the glass.
