What can I say about P.J. Tucker? Got the start for DeMarre Carroll tonight, and was an absolute beast. His defense completely changes the game, had another strong night collecting rebounds, and getting to every lose ball. Another great night for Tucker, who at this point has probably won over the hearts of every Raptors fan.

A-
S. Ibaka32 MIN, 18 PTS, 8 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 8-16 FG, 2-2 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 9 +/-

Started the game off very hot with a quick 10 points, including some nice shooting from deep. He may have cooled off for a couple of quarters, but came into the fourth providing the Raptors some much needed scoring and strong defense.

J. Valanciunas22 MIN, 9 PTS, 6 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 4-9 FG, 0-0 3FG, 1-1 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -2 +/-

Looked really nice early on grabbing offensive rebounds, and getting some very nice put backs. Past that first quarter, he looked very soft around the rim, missed some easy baskets, and was not great on the defensive end.

A
D. DeRozan37 MIN, 18 PTS, 3 REB, 6 AST, 1 STL, 8-17 FG, 1-2 3FG, 1-2 FT, 1 BLK, 3 TO, 3 +/-

DeRozan was solid on offense, what’s new? I would rather talk about how active he looks on the defensive! Without Lowry, DeRozan is going to get his shots up, but since the All-Star break he has taken major steps forward on the defensive end, and tonight was arguably one of his best defensive games of the year.

C+
C. Joseph36 MIN, 8 PTS, 7 REB, 5 AST, 0 STL, 4-11 FG, 0-2 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, 7 +/-

Didn’t have his shot going in this game, finishing 4/11 from the field. Other than his shooting he did a great job at creating, getting rebounds, and controlling the offense.

B+
D. Wright24 MIN, 8 PTS, 3 REB, 4 AST, 1 STL, 3-7 FG, 1-3 3FG, 1-2 FT, 1 BLK, 4 TO, 7 +/-

Delon continues to get better and better with the more minutes he gets. Defensively, his length does a great job at getting into passing lanes, his size and defensive IQ is very effective when switching onto bigger defenders. Bonus! He looked very confident shooting the ball tonight, huge for his development.

A
P. Patterson24 MIN, 14 PTS, 5 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 5-6 FG, 4-4 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 2 +/-

Patterson has strung together a few really nice games recently, and it’s starting to look like he’s 100% over his knee injury. Looked like his old self on the defense end, made some great passes driving to the basket, and finished 4/4 from beyond the arc.

J. Poeltl18 MIN, 4 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 1 STL, 2-2 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 1 TO, 7 +/-

Poeltl has been really impressive since moving into the rotation. Always a factor on the glass, made some really nice cuts in the paint, and driving ball handlers found him for easy buckets. Defensively he did a very nice job protecting the rim and containing Salah Mejri, who at times be a force on the offensive glass, and in the pick and roll.

C-
N. Powell14 MIN, 6 PTS, 0 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 2-5 FG, 0-2 3FG, 2-2 FT, 0 BLK, 3 TO, -1 +/-

Really rough night on the offensive end, had some pretty ugly turnovers, and just didn’t have his shot going.

Dwane Casey

Rotations were pretty tight without Carroll in the game, but did a nice job adjusting throughout.

Things We Saw

  1. The stretch of playoff basketball in Toronto continues. Tonight the Raptors clinched a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive year!
  2. This was a great wire to wire win for the Raptors. The wins keep coming on the defensive end, and while Dallas might not be a stellar offensive team, the Raptors were still never let up and took care of business against the final Western Conference team they will play this year.
  3. The new additions on the Raptors continue to impress. Ibaka and Tucker have changed the look of this team. Defensively the Raptors look like a new team, and the ball movement and spacing on some offensive possessions look very different compared to earlier in the season. 5 straight wins.
  4. This was an overall solid performance against a team who the Raptors should beat. The Raptors will get a rest game tomorrow before facing the Orlando Magic Monday night at home.
