Your don't need to give up your 2 nd round picks. Chicago saves 8 million in salary cap with this deal

5 million dollar buys diddly squat for the SF.
Which is as good as nothing because they'd have to renounce midlevel to use it.

If you remove the 16.8 for boozers salary and add the 6.2 for Fields salary. Additionally , if the bulls exercise the buyout for Salmons and Hansborough of 2 million dollars. The net effect for the bulls team salary would be a reduction of 8.6 million to a new amount 56.4 million.
Please note that the projected salary cap for 2014/15 is to be 63 million dollars and the luxury tax of 76.3 million as been presented by the NBA office.
Hope this clarifies why the bulls will want this type of deal.

5 mil is irrelevant. 5 mil means it's not even worth renouncing exceptions. This trade saves the owner some cash, that's it.

So if you choose 5 of them excluding Hinrich, that fills your team out at 6 million including first round pick, and you are still less than the projected salary cap of 63 million dollars.
No I didnt forget and roster cap charges. Fortunately the average roster cap charge is $950,000 a player.

There's a very good Larry Coon's guide that you can read if you want to learn about cap:
