I find it hilarious that people think that this "future" is going anywhere. We are maxxed out financially on average players. That lands us out of the playoffs and out of the lottery. 7 years of BC and we are right back to where we started (with less picks and worse assets).

Calderon is and always will be a better PG than Jose. Lowry has extremely questionable decision making at the worst times, has a tendency to force his shot and have average or below average court vision. The only thing going for him is his defence and he's been burned there a lot of times since he took the job.

As much of a Raptors homer I am I can't see this team ever being good enough to compete. We're more than likely going to just be stuck at 8th seed at best. Rudy Gay is athletic but he is dumb as a rock with his decision making and shot selection. We have little room to improve either. If BC stuck to the course with Jose and Ed we'd be in a much better position than we are now.

BC just needs 5 or 6 more years to finish his plan. Seven years is far too quick to make judgement calls. You need to give a GM at least 10 years before you can reach any conclusions. And even then, if he's trying really hard in year 10 or makes a good trade, you have to give him more time to see that plan through. Another 7 or 8 years at least.

Casey has regressed in seemingly every measure of coaching. Any headway the team made with defense last season appears to be long gone and the offense has evolved into DeRozan, Lowry and Gay taking turns trying to go one on five. His rotations shift from confusing to mind-boggling on a game-to-game basis. His preaching of accountability appears to be only applicable when it's convenient after watching Bargnani trot out with the starters for the past few games after JV and Amir have both outplayed him this season.
Colangelo continues to be one of the most inept general managers in the game. He has basically made it up as he has gone along since he arrived in Toronto and the results have been horrendous after he caught lightning in a bottle during his initial season. The end result is the team is capped out, has no first rounder this summer and has a roster filled with duplicate players, most of them grossly overpaid.

Meh, after Bargnani goes you wont have much more downside. Ross, JV, Demar are our young saviors. Lowry, Gay, Amir are our young vets. Fields, Anderson, Lucas round out the roster. Obviously we are missing that one big piece at PF to settle our 8 man rotation. But since everyone that matter is under 27 yearsold, we cant judge where the team is by its current performance, but by their development and where they could possibly be headed.

JV for instance will add a huge dynamic to our team as he matures. The low post scoring threat is EXACTLY what we need. You know what else we need badly? 3pt shooting, and thats where Ross comes in. Both Ross and JV fill roles that are absolutely necessary and purely complimentary to this team. With their skill sets, this is a different team, but due to their immaturity and the fact that BOTH of them are rookies, we havent seen it yet, and we look more one-dimensional then we actually are.

Next year shall give us a better idea of where Ross and JV are headed, and this team will react as they get better.

We really are not as dead in the water as you seem to lead on.
