Default Alan Anderson: Bring Him Back?

    http://www.raptorscage.ca/should-the...alan-anderson/

The question with Alan Anderson is, should he be resigned for next season?
Yes. BUT, there are things that should be considered.
If Alan is put in the proper role, if Alan is asked to be a perimeter shooter, and a defensive option, if Alan is playing the right amount of minutes and not cutting into the development of Terrence Ross, if he isnít taking the minutes from the core wings in DeRozan and Gay, and if he isnít asked to be a number one option on the offensive end, than yes, re-sign him. Him as the 4th or 5th wing off the bench, and used in times of need, such as guarding an elite player, or floor spacing, all within 10-15 minutes, is a great asset for this team, also considering he wonít be heavily paid big bucks.

But, if Anderson is going to be asked to play heavy minutes, be a top option offensively, finish games consistently, and be that third wing in the rotation, or the sixth man, than he should not be retained. In other words, if we are going to see a repeat of last year, please donít bring him back. However, I blame Dwane Casey for that more than anything.
What do you think about Anderson being re-signed?

    If Casey is coaching, no.

He is a good minimum 3rd stringer.

I have a feeling AA is going to get paid way more than he's worth by some dumb team (please god don't let it be us)

I am in no way attached enough to AA or his game to want him on the team. He's ok. Nothing about his game is so valuable that he can't be easily replaced.

I hope they can find a way to sign-and-trade him. I'm not sure what possible value he could have ther. Maybe if he gets no decent offers at all, and he's going to be playing for the minimum (or close to it) he'll have some value. Maybe a team that would rather have a vet for a couple of years instead of drafting and paying guaranteed money to a rookie (like a low-first rounder that belongs to a playoff team).

We don't need him. Even if DeRozan is traded, our wing rotation of Gay, Fields and Ross doesn't need Anderson.

Anderson doesn't bring anything to the table that one of these 3 guys don't have.

He's going to fade into the background of any other NBA team but ours. He's been around the NBA to know that he could get decent money, but he'll always be a bench player.

Staying in Toronto and returning back to his role as a key, veteran bench defender / 3-point shooter would be effective to back up landry fields and terrance ross when they aren't shooting well.

Not sure if that's really going to happen.

On a minimum contract 3rd stringer in case of injury if or when one of the wings go down. YES AA always stays ready, part of him being ad was on the PG he played beside.

AA wouldnt have played games this season if 1. Fields could actually score 2. Ross wasnt a rookie 3. For the most part was our best 3 point shooter on the team besides Lowry Casey had to play him.

We don't need him with the wings we have, but I don't mind whether we keep him or not. He has his games offensively, but that's when he's commanding the floor. We don't need him to do that.

Demote his role and he'll be fine here.

If he doesn't end up here, he'll be signed by other team I believe. Toronto gave him chance come back to NBA and he used it quite well.

When T Ross has no defense, who do you turn to?

    Landry Fields or Alan Anderson.

If LF isn't able to fix his shot, guess what? It's going to be the AA show all over again.

Let him go, but be prepared for the fact that some other team is going to give him a contract, force him to play within his limits, and turn him into a very useful player. If they can get him back for near minimum, then sure, especially with a different coach.

Why do I feel that I have to explain myself? Why does this thread exist?

If LF can't fix his shot and Ross is still a 'deer in the headlights' do what most half decent teams would do: Have one of Demar or Rudy on the court with him. That's why those three are getting paid the big bucks. Bam. Done.

He's not a specialist, he's not a vet with experience winning. On a bad team he's instant offense. On a good team he's deep bench injury insurance. In other words, he's what Pietrus was supposed to be this past season. Let him go do that somewhere that needs that. The Raps have too much money invested in their wing players (especially if you include Kleiza) to have dude acting like he has a license to shoot...

Don't get me wrong, with the right coach, who would give him strict direction, I think he's a usable piece. But, with the amount spent on the wings this year, AND a lottery pick he shouldn't have gotten the type of minutes he got, especially after the Rudy Gay trade.

    Yes.

A need a tank season, so we can grab one of the prized players coming draft night.

let AA shot 20 shots a game and if it happens that he catches on fire in 1 out of 4 games he usually does, just bench him

You got to admit he went Kobe a few times this year. And thats pretty cool but he tried to do it to often, and it's part Casey's fault for logging him all those minutes while T-Ross sat on the bench but it's also part ownerships fault too for not giving Casey too many options as our bench was pretty damn thin; Anderson, Fields, John Lucas, Telfaire, Acy and Gray while the rest were all fuckin injured.

But since the season was shit and it was all for nothing, I would have definitely rather watched Ross develop than Anderson jack up every shot that comes his way.

No. Feel-good story indeed. But he doesn't understand his role, leading to him over-extending and over-contributing.
