  • Raptors-Thunder huge trade?

A trade built around Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan for Kendrick Perkins, Thabo Sefolosha and any of their picks.
I know that salaries are not working but... I mean, our GM is Masai Ujiri.

Now why would Toronto do this? Well, first of all we would get rid of Bargnani and we would also have more cap space as his contract and DeMar's would be off the books. While doing this we would also get back 2 quality veterans. In Kendrick we would get a good center that would bring a winning mentality and some toughness to the team. In Thabo we would get an excellent defender who can also shoot pretty well, exactly what we are looking for at the 2 spot.

Why would the Thunder want to do this? They would get another scorer in Bargnani, as a starter or coming off the bench. They would also get a new, young starting shooting guard in DeMar. This would just be some improvements for a team that is already a championship caliber team, but a team that still need some adjustments.

    Valanciunas/Perkins/Gray
    Johnson/?????/Acy
    Gay/Fields/?????
    Sefolosha/Ross/?????
    Lowry/?????/Lucas

This would be the roster before draft night and free agency. Kleiza is gone via amnesty (if it is possible) or by any other way (it's not that I don't like the player or the man, he just needs to go).

What do you guys think of this idea?

I can't see OKC giving up Sefolosha, he's just too valuable to them defensively.

I also don't think DeRozan and OKC are a good fit. DeRozan needs the ball in his hands to be successful, but there's no way he'd get the ball nearly as much as he does now, when he's a 3rd option (at best) behind ball-dominant guys like Durant and Westbrook. OKC needs role players, outside shooters and defensive specialists in their starting lineup, in order to complement Durant & Westbrook - DeRozan is none of those things.

I don't know how much they value Sefolosha...he is just a one-dimensional player, even if he's quite good at that. Probably wouldn't be that hard to replace though with a good pick or cheap signing.

But I totally agree on DeMar. He's a HORRIBLE fit for OKC. And I think he could fit in well many places, but that is not one of them. It's not just that he needs the ball, but that he's an inconsistent and average facilitator. OKC doesn't need another guy on the perimeter who isn't great at creating for teammates.

I don't see why you think that much that he would not fit with OKC. I'm sure DeMar would accept and adapt to his role. This would certainly change the way OKC plays but I don't see why it would ruin their system. I'm sure he can develop in a pretty good defender, even more in a team like OKC. He's not a great 3 point shooter, but I don't see why OKC need it that much. Martin will more than probably be back as the 6th man and Durant is a hell of a shooter. Westbrook can also shoot. And Lamb. And Ibaka! And... Bargnani.

If OKC didn't feel comfortable paying Harden $13-16M per season (increases each year), why would they ever want to spend $11M on Bargnani and $9.5M on DeRozan? Forgetting about Bargnani, I just don't see them willing to pay DeRozan that much money to be a 3rd banana, when he doesn't do half that things that Harden did and needs the ball to be effective...

That and the trade is not even close to being possible with those pieces. Unless another team is involved. OKC would be adding $10mil a year in salary. They're not about to do that.

Sure he could accept his new role...as far whether he'd do well in it or not, the jury's still out. It's been said above, DeMar needs the ball in his hands to be successful, and he doesn't do anything else superbly. He'd have to improve other aspects of his game exponentially if he were to adapt a new style of play.

Presti would never do this trade. He's no BC. He values picks and young talent.
