I dunno guys, to be honest I really want to just blow this roster up. I have nothing against those who feel that a little "tweaking"
of this roster will get them into the playoffs and also there are some players that I would find hard to let go but that is because we are emotional about our team and players at times. (eg- Jose). Besides JV and Amir, I want everyone pretty much out of here.
I believe Ross is over rated, Lowry is a starting PG but in the lower echolon of starters in the league, Derozan is a good player but not the focal point of a teams offense, Rudy Gay is inefficient and over priced, Fields is paid too much for a bench player, AA thinks he's a focal point of the offense off the bench and he is not, AB and Kleisa - no comment for I do not want to be rude, Acy ? Meh.
I really want to blow it up, get cap space and keep and obtain picks in the draft. The "Euro Experiment" is over !!!
I know people do not want to wait another 3 to 4 years but unless you want a competitive team for years to come, we have no choice. Eking out the 8th or 7th spot in the Weak East means nothing to me.
Great first post mjmc! I can sympathize with this. I just don't feel like its completely needed.
    Regardless, welcome to the Republic!

... is that a picture of Bob Dylan smoking with John Lennon? Lol Awesome!

Anyone know what the draft night schedule is like? I know it's supposed to start at 7, but is there going to be 15-30 minutes of nonsense before Cleveland actually has to pick?
6-7 is a draft preview. Draft starts at 7:30pm

He's also entering his 5th season. Not a wide-eyed pup either.
Absolutely true. But is that all that leads you to believe he's a finished product?
I'm not sure anything he's shown on the court indicates that he's done improving.

Again. My point is he's a solid player and not the clown that he is being perceived as. How information is interpreted is another debate that I'm willing to have. The people swinging the biggest swords here are bringing the least amount of information to the debate. Let's put it all out there, compare it to other teams' starting Shooting Guards and then make an educated decision. Hey someone with an analytic mind can mine through it and then we can have this debate. I'd rather miss use information and get the information out there for debate than keep info to my chest because it disproves my point.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong. But I suspect that if we compared Demar to starting shooting guards across the board dude comes out in the upper half of the league. That's not saying much, but can you name a Raptors SG in the recent past who they can say that about?

Don't get it twisted. I have a personal list of players that I would trade Demar for in a heartbeat, but the vitriol of the anti-Demar people is straight toxic for no reason.
This debate has been had many times in several threads, with many stats shared by those on both sides of the debate (myself included). I have yet to see anybody call DeRozan a clown or spew toxic vitriol. There is solid rationale for both sides, with stats that backup the claims. Also, anybody that I've seen posting in support of trading DeRozan, has always done so with the expectation that he returns a young, all-star (or at least near all-star) caliber player to the Raptors. There has been no "hate" directed at DeRozan, by even the most adamant 'pro trade' poster, nor has there been any 'addition by subtraction' type claims like those you see posted about Bargnani.

For me, it all comes down to the fact that DeRozan has now been a heavy minutes, #1b/#2 offensive option, starting SG on a weak offensive team for the past 3 seasons (4 year vet overall), who'll be making $9.5M starting next season. Throughout his career, he's been a one-dimensional player (scoring) who has scored with average efficiency at best (using the friendliest of statistics). He's a poor-to-average defender, is a below average 3pt shooter (this is now at least the 3rd offseason he has vowed to improve his 3pt shooting) and has effectively been made redundant by Gay (trading Gay would certainly alleviate this issue). When you factor in that he's likely the most tradeable asset currently on the Raptors roster (combination of talent, upside - real or perceived, age, amount of salary he'll return), I'm shocked that so many posters get so emotional about any suggestion to even CONSIDER trading him, especially given the expectations provided for the quality of player the Raptors MUST receive in trade for him.

Would be even more frustrating if Boston blows it up, and somehow lands Wiggins :|
that's what I mean. If you assume lowry is expendable (if he has a bad year he's gone, if he has a good year, will we pay the price to keep him), one of demar/gay stays and we still have JV, how bad can we be but still grow the right parts? Maybe not bad enough.

In theory, it makes sense. However, with so many teams likely following that route and 2014 1st round picks being virtually untouchable (according to Tweet from Chad Ford), winding up with even a top-5 pick in next year's draft is going to be a crapshoot. First, you'll have to make sure you suck worse than all the other teams that are trying to suck. Second, you'll have to hope for luck in the draft lottery. Third, you have to hope that whoever you draft lives up to all the hype surrounding the 2014 draft class. I'd hate to be the GM of all the teams that decide to tank - I mean, rebuild - this offseason, only to miss out on one of the top prospects... or be the GM who drafts the top prospect that ends up being a bust!

Spoken like a true diplomat. Well said. Hence why I've taken to the "wait and see" approach.

Hope you're okay over there in Calgary man!! The city is just getting beat up lately, eh?
Now you've got potentially exploding trains?!

haha not necessarily diplomatic (I've been as vocal about exploring trades for DeRozan as anybody), but just fed up with constantly being referrred to as hating, or being crazy, or toxic or whatever, just because stats/rationale are shared to support the 'trade DeRozan' side of the debate. I share my thoughts and respect the other side too, since he very well could take a giant leap forward next season after taking baby steps the past three seasons. Plus, I've talked mostly about trading him for young, equally talented starting PFs, such as Millsap (S&T)... I think comparing DeRozan to that quality of player would be seen as a compliment, not hatred...

Much like Colangelo, I've been left high and dry... thankfully! I had a busy week last week and didn't have a chance to watch/read much news, so I was oblivious to the flooding until Friday morning, since I neither live nor work downtown. All the chaos and the way the city rallied together was reminiscient of when I lived in Toronto during that massive power outage back in 2003. I feel more for folks in Canmore and High River... it's unfathomable to think that an entire town of 13,000 has been evacuated and could all lose their homes... [end of thread hijack] lol

If the Raps want to get younger and cheaper, it makes sense to go after Bledsoe (Bargnani and/or DeRozan?) and trade away Lowry (per other rumors)... that route would suggest rebuild over retool...
