Because they weren't solidifying their SG position by standing pat.
That was a big part of it. Also Bledsoe was likely going to get a hefty raise next year.

So Clips traded Bledsoe and signed Collison??? why
    Keeping Bledsoe would have meant:

    - keeping a valuable commodity on the bench (therefore being less productive to the team)
    - while still having a 'hole' on the team (not filling an area that lacked production)

In the mean time holding him would have risked the loss of (or devaluation of) him as an asset when next season came around. Bledsoe's inevitable raise would have been expensive for the Clippers to match, and a s&t usually (but not always) brings in a smaller return than a normal trade

Keeping Bledsoe would be a decrease in production and value to the team. The biggest benifit to keeping him would have been insurance in case of a Chris Paul injury, but that would have been very expensive insurance to pay (in terms of asset value not $ cost).
