I know when I look for a breakout season, I turn to a 27-year old player entering his eighth season. That's when breakouts happen.
    generally you would be correct.

    BUT i counter thusly

    1.) Corrective eye surgery

    2.) Transition to 1st option from 3rd

    3.) 10 - 15lbs of additional muscle

4.) That would be his contract year next year. Further ridiculous payouts would require he tear it up

First, can someone confirm if Rudy Gay's contract has the potential to save a luxury tax team something in the range of $40 million? If so isn't there huge value in holding onto him? Lakers, New Jersey, New York and soon Clippers will all be in the luxury tax won't they?

Secondly, I don't know if Detroit really wants Rudy Gay or if they want his contract for when it expires. Remember when Miami took Jermaine Oneal's contract off our hands?
Detroit has just $1M guaranteed for next season and $21M on the books for 8 players.

Granted, one of those players is Monroe who is due for a raise but has a $5.5M QO and $8M cap hold.

I'd have no problem trading BOTH.

In fact part of me hopes it happens.

Both players are vastly overpaid and limited.

They are from an era where individual pieces were valued and collected rather than building a team.

The Pistons and Bucks are two teams I'd keep an eye on. Both are in no position to lose (Pistons because they have been losing forever and have 2014 pick heading out; Bucks trying to build a new arena with public money and with owner concerned about profits first and foremost).
Agreed. BC's past moves were so glaring at this point. I want picks, a player w/ potential, and one expiring please for Mr. Gay. God, every time I look at that feature where Demar runs in the tunnel to sign his new contract, the angrier I get.

If I was him I would look to secure his current pay out rate for another long term contract, 5 years at least.
This way, if I were to fall backwards in production, I'm just under the 'all star' payrate, and yet, if I have sparks of achievement, I'm still quoted as 'almost allstar'.

This. Detroit is busy negotiating with Iggy and Josh Smith for the same reason: they want a stud who can play small forward (Smith is more of a power forward, but he can play the 3) to complete their starting five, and they can afford to overpay a little. Rudy is actually a safer bet for them; he's younger than Iggy or Smith and they can turn at least one of their terrible expiring deals into part of Rudy's contract, which would give them more flexibility to pursue the other pieces they need.

The haul Masai got for Carmelo must be in the similar light for Gay. Granted, Gay isn't Melo but the haul should be in the same light.

    But sadly that is impossible.

5 year extensions are not possible until your deal is over.

While your deal is still valid the longest extension can be a maximum of 4 years including years already under contract.

With Rudy's player option, the longest extension he could sign is 2 years.

Unless Rudy declines his option and signs a 6 year deal?

Gay for Monroe, one of Stuckey/CharlieV and KCP. Id do that. Throw in a 2014 second rounder.

Although the idea of Monroe has really piqued my curiosity this morning. I would imagine he is untouchable.

The conspiracy is on. It's all but taken care of. Rogers and Bell money is being secretly transferred to a Cayman Islands account. All the Raptors have to do is make it into the lottery next season. Wiggins will be delivered.

    Maybe.

But I think it has more to do with refusing to anoint a cornerstone or build around a flawed player and openly expressing that opinion.

Its all cool though. I've never been one for a circle jerk anyways.

I don't know how untouchable. It gets crowded with him and Drummond. From what I say, 2012 Monroe looked at lot like 2013 Monroe. They may want to sell high if they can get a more offensive focussed 4 and let drummond collect the rebounds

If you get Monroe AND KCP, I'd take both Stuckey and CV off their hands.... might even throw them a 2nd rounder myself.

I would do Monroe + KCP + 1st rounder (plus one of Stucky/CV for filler, or a TPE if they prefer).

    I would also do....KCP + Mitchell + Jerebko + 1st rounder (plus filler again)

To avoid sending us a pick...it would have to include KCP, Mitchell and Monroe...and then they can fill with whatever the fuck they want because we just robbed them.

I just can't understand blocking anyone. Even the worst-posters, IMO, have some value now and again, and that is beyond the occasional time when I'm in a combative mood. Plus Matt52 is one of my favourite posters.

Ok. What does that have to do w/ Rudy Gay?

I think Masai will keep Rudy and DeRozan as a package together to test how they will play in the first half of the season.
