    Default Updated Rosters

    As of today

    Lowry/Augustin/Bycks
    DeRozan/Ross/
    Gay/Novak/Fields
    Amir/Hansborough/Acy
    Val/Gray

What we need is a backup C and i don't think we have the money to go after a veteran big, we should look at some other options.

    1) Bernard James
    2) Chris Wilcox
    3) Undrafted Center?

Didn't he take a full time position as GM of the Las Vegas Primos (new NBA team)

Nope. That's Hedo Turkoglu and he sells Testosterone.

Hmmm.. I disagree with Ross being the SG off the bench. I think he will have to earn playing time this year with hard work and hustle. I'd rather see a 2nd unit of:

    Augustin
    Fields
    Novak
    Hands
    Gray

Novak spotting up with three's and Fields/Hands rebounding should help us maintain our lead until the starters get back in.

I see Fields as more of a 2, assuming Ross underperforms and we need someone to be a backup to DeMar.

Not happening. TR will be (and should be) the first guy off the bench.

If he shits the bed after getting consistent playing time .. then Im more than happy to discard him .. but until he gets a chance with some legitimate run .. he should be a top priority to improve. This team isnt going anywhere with Fields and Novak playing heavy minutes .. so we might as well figure out what Ross can bring ...

I think technically QRich is still on the roster, is he not? ... but assume not for long.

Why does Masai still talk about adding another wing (in the DJ press interview)? It makes me wonder if he wants a backup option in case he trades Gay.

That said, C is the biggest hole. And Aldrich, Gooden and James are probably cheap enough so the raptors can sign with cap space though I'm not sure they are much of an upgrade of Gray. Even Mozgov is questionable as an upgrade and after that the price rockets (Odom, Pekovic). I see the an upgrade here happening via trade if we want a "better" player then Gray. Maybe something like QRich or Fields for a more expensive C contract.

Trade Fields Ross has a lot of talent guy needs to relax and play. Casey benched him because his defense was awful.

I'm certain he does. That having been said, Fields and Novak are questionable backups to Gay - Fields might be solid, might be awful, we don't know. And frankly, I would expect him to look more for a swingman than a pure small forward, because the Raps are thin at SG as well.

The C market is garbage. I honestly don't want him to sign anyone on that list. I know the team needs another big body, but I just really don't see anything worthwhile on the available FA market. Mozgov might be nice so guys could build confidence by dunking on him in practice

As for wings, our wing depth is seriously quesitonable. Rudy and DeMar start, sure, and that's stable, but the bench?

-Ross is a sophomore with lots of uncertainty, and even if he take a step forward this year, it's safe to say he'll still be inconsistent.
-Fields might still have a fucked up shot, making him a limited player.
-Novak is a situational specialist, and not someone you want to count on for big minutes at the SF nightly.
-Q-Rich may never see the court

That's 4 wings that on any given night, can end up giving you basically nothing. I mean, if Ross takes a step forward and Fields fixes his shot decently, that becomes a solid rotation. If they don't....man that's an awful wing rotation.

The more I look at the roster the less I'm impressed. However Casey could always try to keep one of DD or Gay on the floor at all possible times, unless its a blow out win/loss. If Fields returns to form then they can rest the starters more but that may not happen. I still don't see Ross getting a lot of minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Ross in the D-League this year.

If JV gets into foul trouble, and they are playing a team without a true center then I could see Amir/Tyler on the court at the same time. Gray I don't think would keep up with 4's playing the 5 spot. It would have been nice if Camby just shut up and played for the Raptors, but I really do think they should grab someone else. I'm intrigued by Bernard James and hope they go after him.

If the Raptors get into the playoffs with this roster I will be surprised. I still think the Raptors will start off very slowly and MU will pull the trigger on a blow-up/tank job after about 20 games.

Fields needs to go. With him on the floor, 20% of the teams offensive capabilities are gone.

Y go into the season crippled with 5 on 4s

This is an exaggeration, but he certainly can't play a top 9 role if his shot is still broken.

The annoying thing is that Fields is head and shoulders above Gay, DeMar and Ross in terms of moving without the ball and filling empty spaces. It's all that damn shot....Just damn it.

It really isn't. He was useless on offense last year.

He's great moving off the ball and finding easy baskets for the team. Just like you need guys who can make tough shots, you need guys who get you what are basically freebies by catching the D sleeping.

*I mean, before his shot got all messed, he was a guy who could easily get you 1 or 2 open 3s, and 1 or 2 open layups a game, just from going to the right spot. Now, the shot is gone, and that's what screws his effectiveness.
