I'm a proponent of tanking because there is no flexibility to improve nor do we have a lot of organic growth (other than JV and possibly Ross) to hope for. To me 'tanking' is asset acquisition and at this time the Raptors need to shed payroll and get rookie scale contracts. To get good players (non rookies) on cheap contracts is hard when they are not contenders.
But in my opinion the hype for the 2014 draft is over blown. Wiggins is probably a sure thing.. but to compare others in that draft to the guys out of the 2003 draft is a bit much. Exum looks like he'll be a good PG, but is he even going to declare? Parker has slid, and looks like he'll be a tweener (which I hate because they can have a D. Williams career). I like watching Randle's youtube videos however could he end up like T-Rob (a journey man after only playing in the league for 2 years)? And a good PF is nice to have but they don't automatically turn a team into a contender. Smart wasn't even going to be a top pick in the weak 2013 draft - plus I think PG's are difficult to rate. Looking at some of the elite PG's in the league a lot of them were drafted later in the draft and not necessarily even in the lottery.
The 2014 draft just has way too much value to it and I think it will be disappointing. I think MU should buy low and get an additional 2015 or 2016 pick instead. Lowry for example should get a high 2015 pick but a very low 2014 pick. I'd rather have the high 2015 pick.
