Buycks and Augustin making strong cases for backup PG in the quarter I saw.
Hell, they're making strong cases for the starter PG with how poorly Lowry played today...

I also want to add. Stone is an intriguing prospect. A 6'9 player that can play the point, and can guard multiple positions?
6'7 I'm pretty sure he's listed. Yeah, can play from 1-3, and a defensive minded player. I would rather take Wright out of the three including Morais though, 3 point guards is enough for me. Also when Casey will rely on Gay and Fields to do some play-making as well.

Does anyone know why Hansbrough did not play today? Is he ill or injured?
Mild hamstring strain, according to RantSports. He may not play Monday, either. No doubt he will be listed as "day to day."

I thought Rudy was pretty good down low...but he did seem less explosive and rusty. I hope he didn't put on too much muscle. All the other starters looked great -- for a scrimmage.

So who's the first guy cut? I think it's between Stone and Morais. DJ is looking a lot better than he did in the playoffs, Buyks looks solid so I'm thinking Stone is in trouble. Wright did a great job early. If they keep anyone after camp he has to be in the lead.

Wow, DeMar looked like he was on cruise control all game and still did his thing...
you can tell he put in alot of work

Sherm and Akil noted during the live stream that it was only per-cautionary though, with JUST a sore hamstring.

His 6'6 not 6'9. He is very impressive prospects. You can tell his really disturbing on D. I felt the Grey team was better when he was on the floor.

                    • Was Kyle Lowry really that bad? I didn't watch the full game but I watched 3 quarters of it and yes DJ and Dwight outplayed him but I still thought he looked pretty good. What was it that he was doing bad?
I relish negativity and disappointment. It is not healthy. Somebody buy me a pony.

                        • Random thoughts:

-I liked Buycks a lot. DJ played well, but Buycks could make a strong case to get into the rotation, especially if Ross keeps stumbling along. He has that scoring game where you could easily play him at the off guard spot, at least on offense. Quick, able to change speeds, can knock down shots and even got to the hole.

-DeMar and JV looked really good among the starters. Lowry and Gay did not, especially Lowry.

-I can actually see Daye beating out Novak for 'shooter' minutes. Daye's got good length and athleticism, and even just standing still with his arms stretched is twice the defensive player Novak is. Novak looks AWFUL at all times when he's not shooting. I understand he's a specialist, but I'd have a hard time playing someone that useless.

-Of the non-guaranteed guys...I really like Wright's energy and approach, but does he really fit on the forward-filled roster? I don't think so, but I could see the merit to signing him. Stone looked ok, and as people have mentioned, is very intriguing given his size and skill set. I don't think it's an issue that they have 3 PGs. I can easily see him added as a wing if they really want to sign him. Morais looked pretty meh. Did not appear to know how to assert himself.

                          • By the way i know its only a scrimmage game. But they all played hard. And this is by far the best i've seen DD play. He looked like a different player out there. He just looked very comfortable. And the jumpshot is looking good.

I don't want to get too excited though.

                            • Morales: Non-factor outside of a garbage time hoop. Didn't stand out whatsoever.

Buycks: Got better as the day went on and looked completely comfortable on an NBA court. His outside shot was better than I expected and he did a decent job of getting to the paint and setting up others as well.

Augustin: Was really impressed with him. Looks like he's in great shape and did a pretty good job quarterbacking the black team when he was out there. Set JV up with a couple of really nice looks.

DeRozan: Best player on the court. Was knocking down the three regularly, got to the rim under control for finishes and had his way in the post against anyone who was matched up against him. Looked really good.

Gay: Didn't seem nearly as hungry as most of the other players and didn't have a great game as a result. Ball movement seemed to die with him on offense; the rock would be whipping around until Gay caught it, slowed everything down and then went 1-on-1 to make a tough shot. When he's making them he looks like an all star, when he's missing them you think, "Why does he force such bad looks?"

Lowry: Knocked a few threes down but didn't get anyone else involved. I skimmed through the comments before me and some seem to think he played awful - I wouldn't go quite that far but he certainly didn't impress. For all the talk about him being more lean and explosive, he seemed to settle for a lot of long shots with a hand in his face.

JV: Solid afternoon. Got some buckets in the post, a couple big blocks, and hit a few teammates with nice looks on cuts to the hoop. Overall he played well.

Amir: Regular Amir game. Lots of hustle, worked the glass. Brought the energy.

Wright: Had a great first half with a couple of big dunks. Hit the offensive glass really hard and was rewarded. Tons of energy out there but didn't get nearly as many opportunities in the second half.

Stone: Had a few moments but was sort of underwhelming overall.

Novak: Got a couple good looks in the second half and got one to go. Fan favorite already, but he's close to useless unless you're able to create catch and shoot opportunities for him.

Daye: Knocked down quite a few treys and had a real solid game overall. If he continues to shoot it that good, he could easily supplant Novak as the team's token shooter as he's actually able to do a few other things offensively and his length on D makes it a lot tougher to score on. He does seem really immature though - not a bad guy necessarily but the body language is terrible. Always shaking his head after mistakes or complaining about calls. Hopefully Casey can help him evolve into a more mentally strong player.

Gray: Set some screens, played decent post D, cleaned up a little mess at the rim. He was Aaron Gray, basically.

Ross: Had a decent start but was a lot less noticeable as the afternoon wore on. DD was going at him, and getting the best of him whenever they were on the court with each other.

                              Did I miss anyone?

Raps have enough 3s and 4s.
They have enough PGs too but I like the versatility of stone and what he could bring to the lineups when paired with another PG. There would be little to no defensive worries like the Calderon/Lowry/JL3 combos of last season.
