  • Moving Kyle Lowry: Tor-Chi-Cle

To Cleveland: Luol Deng, Tyler Hansbrough, rights to Tomislav Zubcic
To Toronto: Anthony Bennett, Alonzo Gee, Carrack Felix, one of Cleveland's stock of first-round picks
To Chicago: Kyle Lowry, Dion Waiters, one of Cleveland's stock of second-round picks

(This trade also works by stripping out Ross, in which case Cleveland can send CJ Miles if they prefer.)

WHY CLEVELAND DOES IT: They need a top-level wing and Deng is it. Hansbrough is the backup big and foul specialist that Cleveland needs and can afford.
WHY CHICAGO DOES IT: Deng is leaving anyway; might as well get something for him. They get Lowry to keep them in the playoff hunt because Chicago is too good to tank, and they get Waiters, who is still an asset and can play SG while they move Butler to SF to replace Deng. They turn $14M of expiring salary into $6.5M of expiring salary (Lowry) and $3.5M of committed (Waiters) and for the Bulls that's a great deal.
WHY TORONTO DOES IT: Replacing Lowry and Hansbrough with Bennett/Gee/Felix is a great tank move; Bennett is injured and needs to both rehab and then rebuild his confidence, Gee is an expiring contract and basically a warm body, and Felix is the SG equivalent of Quincy Acy (unproven end-of-the-bench bargain fodder). Also, that pick.

Cleveland is totally not trading any picks especially since they're garbage right now...

Who said anything about a 2014 pick? They have 2015 picks stockpiled as well plus their own.

Well, this turns Kyle Lowry's expiring into Bennett and a 1st. On the other hand, the Cavs give Bennett, Waiters, a 1st and a 2nd for Deng's expiring. Those are very lopsided returns.

          Agreed.

I don't mind turning KL into Bennett and a 1st, even if it's not 2014, I think that's relatively fair, given the potential upside of Bennett, and his cheaper contract since he's on a Rookie Deal.

However, I don't remotely see the Cavs giving up that much for Deng's expiring/TH, that's just way too much for somebody that can walk at the end of the season.

I think the "jist" of the trade is good, just need to alter some picks/players to make it a little better for the Cavs.

I have mentioned this on earlier threads as well and i will mention it agian i dont think Cavs are going to give up on Bennet this quickly no team will trade a first overall pick even before the first season is over and admit to the fan base that they made blunder with the first pick so there is no way bennet is going anywhere atleast not right now

Well, just because no team has done it, doesn't mean that they can't be the first.

But yes, it does seem soon to give up on Bennett, but if they feel like they're getting a good haul in return, it's possible. I mean, lets face it, if Bennett was in this year's draft, he'd be a Mid/Late First Rounder, that's how stacked this draft is, and how shitty the last draft was.

Who knows, teams are known to do some pretty crazy things when they're trying to win, or trying to lose.

                  Well.

Given how he's playing now, he might be a 2nd Rounder too, lol.

Obviously, Bennett's value isn't anywhere near that of a typical #1 pick. It's probably more comparable to someone drafted with one of the late lottery picks. Actualy, according to Woj from yahoo, Bennett might have been a late lotto pick had Cleveland passed on him. Woj tweeted that Bennett would likely fall to #10 and the Blazers.

So you have someone who wasn't loved too much by teams to begin with, combine that with his salary, combine with him being so out of shape, which to me is a much more concerning than how he plays right now.

However, I don't think the Cavs are looking to trade him on the cheap. Look at it this way, if you draft Blake Griffin or Russell Westbrook, they have a shoulder injury, they come back terribly out of shape and can't even jump and dunk properly, what do you do? Do you say "oops, they are worse than we thought, they can't dunk"? Or do you try to get them into shape and then see?
Bennett too is a very talented athlete, and he's clearly not ok at the moment. He didn't blew out a knee, he just got fat.

I think if you remove Bennett from this deal and replace him with Clark (expiring), it becomes sensible.
Cleveland gets Deng, sends out Waiters, 2015 1st (from Miami or Memphis) and salary filler
Toronto gets 2015 1st and salary filler, sends out Lowry
Chicago gets Waiters and Lowry, sends out Deng

Toronto and Cleveland would probably do it, I think.
I'm not sure that Chicago does it. I wouldn't do it if I was making that decision for them. Deng is a big part of who they are and they should re-sign him. He's still just at the start of his prime. But I'm not sure that they don't do it either.

Agreed that Deng is a big part of Chicago, but there's a huge chance he's going to walk at the end of the season. Wouldn't you want to at least get some kind of return? Waiters isn't awful, at least it's some kind of return?

I'd love to grab Bennett, but I think a huge part of that is because he's Canadian. But, I do like that deal. Essentially Lowry for a 2015 1st, which ends up being a late-round pick. Better than losing him for nothing?
