So I started playing around with the ESPN Trade Machine, based on a combination of rumors and assumptions, to see if I could put a trade together that would work.
To CLEVELAND - Deng & Asik
To CHICAGO - DeRozan & Lowry & Hansborough
To HOUSTON - Johnson & Novak & 2014 1st round picks (best of CHA(top-10)/SAC(top-12)/CLE/CHI from CLE/CHI)
To TORONTO - Bennett & Boozer & Bynum & Miles & 2 x 2014 1st round pick (2nd & 3rd best of CHA(top-10)/SAC(top-12)/CLE/CHI from CLE/CHI)
* if CLE does get the 2nd 2014 1st round pick (from SAC), then they'd giveup 2 picks and CHI would only giveup 1
** If CHI has to giveup 2 picks, then the SAC pick is traded from CLE to CHI
Cleveland
- get 2 player the are rumored to covet: Deng & Asik
- giveup Bennett & a 1st overall pick, as well as filler (Bynum & Miles)
- money is pretty even
Houston
- get a stretch-4 (Johnson) and another 3pt shooter (Novak)
- get a 1st round pick
- money is pretty even
Chicago
- replace Deng with DeRozan (younger and $5M cheaper)
- replace Boozer with Hansborough (Gibson would start)
- add Lowry to replace Rose (Hinrich has played SG and could slide over)
- save $10M this season (get under luxury tax threshold)
- save $6M next season (if Lowry walks and Hansborough is bought-out for $1M guaranteed)
- giveup Deng and a 1st round pick
Toronto
- get Bennett & 2 x 2014 1st round picks
- Bynum can be bought-out or flipped
- Boozer is huge ($16.8M) expiring contract next season, to mentor JV
- essentially a 1st round pick for DeRozan, 1st round pick for Lowry/Amir/Hansborough/Novak, Bennett for taking on contract of Boozer/Bynum
- add about $5M, but would actually save some money if Bynum is waived
