    Default Good Vacation Destinations?

Ok so i've never really been on a vacation overseas. I've done soft things, like go over to the states, hit up nyc etc. But nothing that required me jumping on a plane and landing on a beach in some other part of the world. Leaning towards going somewhere in the spring, mid aprilish. any recommendations...good experiences and bad?

Barcelona. Incredible city and they've got a beach right off the subway on the Mediterranean.

That city stole a piece of my heart that trip.... *sigh*

I've been in Barcelona too. Amazing city.

    @OP

Have you been in any Caribbean islands? If not, you should try Aruba or St Lucia.

Aruba is just an amazing place. I'm not going to write any pros and cons here, but you should research this island and if you decide to travel there, make sure you choose right 'beach'. ( newlyweds and families love Aruba. So if you're single/or going with your pals to have some fun then make sure you choose place with high rise hotels and casinos. )

Okay, I'll mention one and only con of this island.. ( just my opinion. ) Aruba becoming very Americanized and downtown area doesn't feel Caribbean.

Anyway, if you want to party or have fun time with the family - Aruba is a great place.

If you are a single guy looking to party (or going with a gf/wife who likes to party), then I highly recommend Thailand. There are some troubles over there currently so it may not be a great pick this spring but you can do a lot over there for next to no money. Most of the big time party spots like Ibiza and Mykonos don't heat up until the summer months, so those likely won't work.

If you want a relaxing, sit at the pool, vacation, in an all inclusive then there are tonnes of options in Mexico and throughout the Carribean. Just do your due diligence before you pick a place and you'll be fine.

If you are looking for touristy stuff, then Spain or Portugal. Absolutely beautiful countries and you should get there before the local poplutations run them into the ground completely. It's expensive, though.

If you have kids and some money, then there is only one option: Beaches Sesame Street Resort in the Turks. It is the best resort I have ever been to and may very well be the greatest place in the history of the world. No, it is the greatest place in the history of the world.

I wouldn't go to Barcelona in early spring if you're looking for beach weather. It'll be nice, but still high-teens to low-20s at best (more likely high teens).

If you want a surefire sunny destination in the mediterranean, try Cyprus. Not the cheapest place to go, but it almost never rains, it's pretty English friendly because of high tourism and the fact that it used to be under Brit control. You can spend time in the cities, or just find a quiet seaside village to spend your time. Food is amazing too. And actually, while the ticket may (not necessarily) cost you more than Barcelona, things like food, drink and entertainment will be cheaper. Barcelona can be a brutally expensive place. The catch in Cyprus is that unless you're staying in one place (resort; seaside village) you really kind of need a car....but also everything is really close together.

I recommend Hedonism in Jamaica. Single or married? Who cares. You'll have a blast regardless.

Depends on what you want I suppose. Italy in my view offers a good blend of cultural sightseeing and beach lounging. And of course the food, wine and countryside. I am thinking Toscana/Tuscany/Umbria but spring might be a bit dicey to really enjoy. Get a car, drive the coastline, do the beach thing visit the vineyards, small old towns and the great galleries and architecture. Do overnight stays at small hotels/b & bs and enjoy. June/July would be a much better time.

It's not overseas but I really enjoyed Cuba when I went there a few years back. We stayed at an all exclusive resort. They had a lot of fun things to do on the resort, plus Havana and a few other off resort activities I did were great as well.

Don, we got really good value on our Cuba trip. We went to a five star resort in Varadero called Iberostar Laguna Azul.

Costa Rica...beaches, jungle, all sorts of activities like zip lining, fishing, scuba, hiking, surfing etc. They have some great tourist towns down there and the food is great. And pretty cheap too...check out Group-on for travel deals if you haven't already. English is well spoken too, if you are not familiar with Spanish. It's relatively safe, certainly moreso than Mexico, and it's quietly becoming a hot tourist and retirement destination.

OP it sounds like you are leaning towards going somewhere in the Caribbean. I would highly recommend the Bahamas. I was there last month. The beaches are spectacular, apparently one of the cleanest in the Caribbean. The resort was all inclusive and was a good mix of the single/couple party scene and families. Pricing is a little higher than some other destinations in the Caribbean but I guarantee you'll love it.
