    Good question. I'm assuming Salmons+Prospect (ie Ross)+Pick or 2

    Too rich for TO

I do like the idea of pursuing Deng in the off season. However his asking price in Chicago was about 14 mil, so he could be quite pricey.

I think the premise of what you are going for is pretty good though.
14$ million MIGHT be considered a steal, because of how much he adds to a team. Also being a multiple all-star helps. I do know Iggy is making around 12$ millison (correct if mistaken), but took less to play for GS.

This is what I would like to see the Raptors do in the next 12 months:

    1. Resign Lowry and double Pat.
    2. Trade some or all of DD, Hansborough, Vazquez, Fields and Novac. Getting anything for Fields and Novac would be nice, but throw them in with DD and Hansborough. If we are able to move all five I think the Raptors whould be able to get a 1st rounder in 2014, another future first or second rounder, and a long, big starting 3 that can play defence (might have a 'bad' contract, but that is what we may have to take back to get rid of Fields and Novac).
    3. Package picks to move up to draft Tyler Ennis - Canadian kid who can back-up Lowry at the PG spot.
    4. Find a true back-up centre or if we can't trade for a starting SF sign one as well.

The results of all this is:
    PG: Lowry, Ennis
    SG: Ross, Salmons
SF: Deng or Ariza (as free agents)
    PF: Amir, Patterson
    C: Valanciunas, ??

Looks crazy? It is really just trading DD, Hansbourough and GV for a pick and cap space to sign SF
We might have regressed in my opinion. Deng is nice, but I think him with Derozan is a better fit. Deng is a less athletic, but a play-makingish version of Ross. I think when trading DD, Hansbrough, Vasquez, Fields, and Novak, you can definitely get a better return than just Ennis. Lots of unproven on that roster as well, so team would be taking a step back because development becomes a factor here.

Really broken trade scenario; DD, Fields, and Novak alone make up for about $19 million if I'm not mistaken, and you mentioned that Deng/Ariza are acquired via draft, but have them listed as free agents.

I personally hate seeing "homegrown" talent. At this point, I'd take Jabari Parker over Wiggins. He's already shown more consistency, strength, and skill at this level to be a safe - but fantastic - first draft pick. Even Joel Embiid is looking awesome.

If there's homegrown talent that is realistically available, it's Nik Staukas, and I for one - aside from the homegrown shit that gets thrown around constantly - would take him. Safe pick; good scorer, shooter from the outside, solid shot creator, safe pick with NBA type offensive skills.

What about Larry Sanders? Yes, he's on a really big contract, but that makes him easier to get. Just think how good our inside defense would be in a year or two - JV at C, and Sanders at PF If Masai could somehow include Fields or Novak in potential trade scenario...
    (Sorry for poor English )

Sanders appears to be a bit of a knucklehead and I think his character may be an issue for MU and the Raptors in general. From a talent point of view he was really good the last couple of years but perhaps he was playing for a contract? He's not as solid defensively as he was in previous years. His stats basically scream Ed Davis to me.

If you want a guy like Sanders I say just spend money on Davis instead.. should be easier to acquire him for example.

We have lots of those too, plus exemptions too and he can play 3 also. I really hope Masai deepens the bench if he's going with this core group.

I dont think we can move on the bold until we see what we have with JV though. Will he be a force on the offensive or defensive end?

Right now, JV needs a strong defensive PF like Amir to cover for him.

If JV becomes a defensive stopper, like he is capable of being, then we need a low post guy at PF like Monroe.

So...what do you guys think of JV?

(I'm going to keep beating this horse until I get a response god dammit)
I also believe that Monroe would be "more appealing" than K Love. Also a lot cheaper to get (surely not Amir & 3 fists as discussed for Love). My biggest issue: who can play 4? They are both really 5s. JV might develop into PF, I don't think Monroe has the agility to do. Still it would be an interesting 4-5 tandem & watching it grow.
D might be an issue as well, but they are young....

Well you kind of missed my point I think. I wasn't really selling either Monroe or JV.
I just meant that whatever move we make shouldn't be until at least the end of this season, if not in 2015.

    Also I think Monroe is 4/5. I can't imagine JV as a 4.

I believe Ujiri will be a buyer in the deadline, and he'll be looking mainly to add depth to every position, likely the small forward spot (Salmons the only wing, Fields injury, Novak/Daye specialists only) and the centre position (JV, than Hayes - huge drop-off).

Do NOT expect Ujiri to go out looking for all-stars.
