  • Playoff Roster

Hey I was just thinking about this. Playoff time is coming and Casey is going to have to pick 12 players and there's no going back once they're picked. Dwight and Stone are the easy picks but what about the third?

Most likely it's going to be Fields despite the feeling of a lot people (myself included) that he should be replacing Salmons in the lineup. Three weeks ago we prob would've all said De Colo but he's earned a spot on the rotation. You could make an argument for Novak too but Casey seems to like him in certain situations.

Who do you want and do think will be the odd man out?

    Good Question!

    Lowry
    DeRozan
    Ross
    Amir
    Jonas
    Patterson
    Gevis
    Patterson
    Hansbrough

Those 9 are locks to me.

After that what do you do? Nando for ball handling over Salmon's size and potential defense? Hayes big ass over Novak's 3 ball? Fileds defense and movement off the ball over anyone? Harder to pick than I thought

      I'd scratch Novak.

      8-man rotation:
      - Lowry
      - DeRozan
      - Ross
      - Johnson
      - Valanciunas
      - Vasquez
      - Salmons
      - Patterson

De Colo - need an extra PG, in case Lowry/Vasquez get injured or foul out (I've been liking the way he plays with Vasquez on the 2nd unit, bumping Salmons to SF, along with Patterson and Hansbrough/Hayes)

Hayes/Hansbrough - 4th big, depending on matchups; also need a 5th big in case of foul trouble

Fields - good defender (I'll take one-dimensional defender over one-dimensional shooter in the playoffs, as the 12th man)

Novak - useless; DC brings him in when the team is down and he's ice cold, which is just dumb

      Stone/Buycks - beyond useless

Good assessment. And for the bold- great point. I hope Casey views it the same way. Great defense will win them a series

Where are we getting the "no going back" idea? You can change who is active and inactive each game.

              This is from NBA.com:

Each team that qualifies for the NBA Playoffs must submit a list of its players eligible to compete in playoff games on the day following the end of the regular season.
Because there is no Injured List for the NBA Playoffs, each playoff team must designate the 12 players eligible for the playoffs from all of its regular season lists (Active, Injured and Suspended).
A player who is on the Injured, Active or Suspended List at the end of the regular season, but who is not designated for playoff eligibility, need not be waived. He remains on the appropriate regular season list through the NBA Playoffs.
Teams must have at least nine eligible players dressed and able to play in a playoff game. Teams failing to comply are subject to fines.

Shit you know there's a lot of conflicting stuff on the internet (aka The Fact Machine). Apparently there was also a league wide memo last year that said they are thinking of changing 13 active players from 12. But I couldn't see if that actually went through.

Ideally and it won't happen..Hayes is inactive- Psycho T is more capable, aggressive and his game is built for the playoffs. He should be getting all of Hayes minutes behind JV, Amir & Patterson. Novak & Fields at least are specialists...that may serve a purpose in game situations.

                              Rotation should be
                              1. Lowry
                              2. DeRozan
                              3. Ross
                              4. Amir
                              5. JV
                              6. Vasquez
                              7. Patterson
                              8. Psycho T
                              9. Salmons

                              10. De Colo
                              11. Novak
                              12. Fields
