The tempo is not the concern. And WE did whatever the heck we wanted in game 1, with seemingly no consideration for matchups, and it turned out bad. We matched up intelligently (while still forcing our advantages on the glass by not going small with them) in game 2 and won. No coincidence.

DD took until the 4th Q to get warmed up last game. If you notice, I'm still giving him almost as many minutes, including a lot of 4th Q minutes, so he'll be fine.

We did exactly what you describe here in the 3rd Q. Johnson went off for 12 in the Q and the Nets went on a +11 run. If Kidd has any brains at all, every possession down the floor will be Johnson posting DD for an easy two/foul.

Lowry does a fine job on Williams, and I'd rather try Ross on Johnson than DD - Ross doesn't get destroyed the way DD does, even if he still struggles. Anyway, the point is to get DD as many minutes as possible without having him guard JJ. Sure, when Fields comes in, put Ross on Williams to give Lowry a breather, but the important thing is to at least have a competent defender on each of their primary threats - meaning no DD on any starter but Livingston when it can be avoided.
Not to mention when JJ went out, Alan Anderson scored multiple buckets on demar. And even when we were double teaming JJ with demar on him we were getting scored on easily throughout the game because we couldn't catch up with rotations when he passed out of the double. I agree demar should never guard JJ. I was screaming at the TV to put fields on him all game until we finally did and it worked. Unfortunately, demar gives them almost as many buckets as he gives us except theirs are easy and his are tough.

the main goal for the raptors going into Brooklyn is to attack and be aggressive, that way they will force the referees to make a call and most importantly, no one on that Brooklyn team is a shot blocker except Garnett who really isn't much of a threat

We need a better start. Beginning of each 1st and 3rd quarters, Brooklyn has been the more efficient and aggressive team, and it takes Toronto 3-6 minutes to match them. That won't be good enough on the road, need to start each half well and suck the air out of the building.

Off topic, but I was watching the Portland Houston game last night and wished we could have Aldridge on our team, awesome PF.

Then I realized we could have had him, we drafted Bargnani over him.

Demar pisses me off, the fact that he's an awesome scorer but sleeps and can't move his puppies on defense sucks. i think he needs to focus on his defense during the summer if he wants to take the next step in becoming a complete player because we can't be switching players just to guard his opponent, he needs to learn how to play defense, with his athleticism he should be a good defender like ross who can actually play pretty good defense with his athleticism.

OK... Lineup thoughts for this game! Casey did a good job last game, but I'd like to see him do more of:

    - Lowry-on-D-Will at all times. ALL times. Vasquez can't do it.
    - Quick subs for the bigs, keeping them fresh.
    - Fields or Ross on JJ at all times. Never should DD be checking JJ. Ever. Fields only on when JJ is.
    - Anytime you can run DD out there with no JJ cover, do it. Similarly, anytime you can get away with defensive matchups for DD and GV, get them on the floor. Anderson, Livingston, Thornton - these guys can be defended.

So I put together a shift breakdown based on last game's minutes for the Nets. Obviously some of that will change, but it should give us a good idea of ideal sub patterns.

1st Q: Starters as usual, Ross guarding JJ.
4 mins: Garnett subbed out here last game for Plumlee, but he might not until later. Fields for DD, Patman for Amir. Ross switches over to Livingston.
6 mins: Here is where they subbed Teletovic for Pierce and Anderson for Livingston. Anderson's an easy guard, so bring Vasquez in for some early minutes.
10 mins: They brought in Thornton for JJ here. Sub Amir in for JV to give him a breather. Amir-Patman can handle Plumlee/Teletovic. DD back in for Fields as JJ goes to the bench.

2nd Q: Lowry finally gets some rest as Williams sits. Vasquez-Ross-DD-Patman-Amir against their Livingston-Thornton-Anderson-Pierce-Plumlee bench unit. Patman chasing Pierce, Amir on Plumlee.
4:00: JJ checks back in for Anderson, Kirilenko in for Thornton, Blatche for Plumlee. Match up with Fields in for Ross (DD can guard Livingston, or better be able to) and JV for Patman (JV can handle Blatche in the post). Amir chases Pierce.
8:00: Williams back in, so Lowry is too. Teletovic in for Pierce, Garnett in for Plumlee. Patman comes back in for tired Amir to chase Teletovic. Ross in for DD to get a breather and to spread the floor (time for JV to go to work inside, with Teletovic not much of a help presence, and Ross dragging AK to the perimeter).

3rd Q: Nets and Raps run their starters, except Fields in for Ross. DD checks Livingston.
4:00: Vasquez in for DD, Ross in for Fields, Patterson in for Amir. Again, here or sometime later Garnett will check out for Plumlee, but it doesn't really matter when, as JV can handle either of them.
6:00: Here they checked Livingston out for Anderson. Assuming Garnett is sitting by now, good time to check JV out for some rest. Amir in at C.
8:00: Teletovic in for Pierce. Anderson is still on the court, so sub DD in for Vasquez and pray he can defend him better being fresh.

At this point, I've tried to keep everyone really fresh, especially with 3rd Q rest. DD has played only 22 minutes (necessitated by keeping him off JJ), so he's fresh as a daisy. JV likewise has played 24, and only 6 in the 3rd Q. So he should be good to go. Lowry is the exception, as he's matched Williams' playing time: two full quarters plus 4 minutes.

4th Q: Bench unit of Livingston, Anderson, Kirilenko, Teletovic, Plumlee. Raps counter with Vasquez (getting Lowry rest while we can), DD, Ross, Amir, JV. Should be able to do real damage against that unit.
4:00: May want to sub JV out for Patterson here for a couple minutes. No Nets subs last game. If DD is tired, can bring in Fields for DD.
6:00: Here is where the Nets brought their starters back in, mostly. D-Will, JJ, AK, Pierce, KG. Raps match with Lowry, Fields, DD, Patman, JV. DD checks AK.
10:00: Amir can check back in with a couple minutes left if Patman tires.

That breakdown is long, but as short as I could manage. The minutes end up like this:

    Lowry 34
    DD 32
    Ross 28
    Amir 30
    JV 34
    GV 24
    Patterson 32
    Fields 26

With a couple minutes going from Patman to Amir if Amir checks back in to end the game.

The only 12 minute Q's are Lowry's 1st and 3rd, matching up with D-Will. Everyone else is limited to 8-10 minutes in a Q at most, with a couple 6 min Q's for everyone.

Now, obviously the Nets won't run the exact same rotation, but following the matchups I outlined would give a lot of balance, running most of the 8 man rotation fairly equal minutes, keeping legs fresh and maximizing matchup advantages.
I hope DC sees your post and follows your game plan!

Well what Casey did was he did not adjust. DD wasn't giving any offensive production and was getting destroyed defensively he should have been subbed out sooner.

Ross I guess is worth a try at this point...though I vaguely remember that it didn't go so well during the regular season so I don't expect much from the matchup.

Hey DeRozan already blows up this forum with his midrange shooting I don't think adding the highest volume single-season midrange shooter in the history of the NBA would help

As long as DC is willing to play Fields, and Fields does his thing with JJ. Doesn't need to lock-him down per say, would be nice, but just bother him enough to get him off his game, that's it.

Don't let him score at will like DD allows him to.

Attack down low again, honestly. JV is beasting against the Brooklyn bigs, they can't contain/stop him. Let him get off to a quick start. Maybe we can try playing a bit of "Inside/Out" with JV as he gets more comfortable through the game?

JV gets stripped easily on the low block, and turnovers have been an issue for him during the series. We can try the Inside/Out game, but I don't see it being effective unless JV is stronger with the ball.

Ok, are you all suggesting Dwayne Casey and his staff are less able to set up a line up, or make adjustments than you all are?

I don't. What if Demar starts hot and hits a few? You pull after 4 minutes? Crazy talk.

Pretty sure Brooklyn started this thing where it's now "cool" to not laugh at comedy shows ... I can't imagine they'll be all that rambunctious.
