Wait, Ross was injured last year? Is that the Rudy Gay needs glasses theory all over again?
Dwane Casey said he doesn't think Terrence Ross (ankle) has reached his ceiling as a player.
"I don't think so," Casey said. "What a lot of people don't understand is that he had a lot of stuff in his ankle. He had that taken out this spring. He played through it last year. Whether that was why he took a dip defensively, I don't know. I tell everybody that he was our best defensive wing player two years ago, and we were pretty good." Casey went on to say that he expects big things out of Ross this season, and that he has also been able to start shooting again. Ross should be 100 percent by training camp.

Because the only thing he knows for sure is it was the bigs' fault? Ross isn't Lithuanian enough for Casey to criticize him with certainty + regularity. Even though the play of your best perimeter defender may have been a key issue in a season where your team defense fell off a cliff and got abused in a first round playoff sweep. But what do I know. Not much. The bigs need to make plays.

If your young guard is giving up blow bys to Andre Miller, a little check in might be in order

Lol define soon. I'm looking forward to him coming off the bench with two bona fide wing players starting ahead of him! I feel good about his prospects

I'd settle for "might be". If, by "good", you mean "as good as everyone really thought he could be when we selected him". That's not "miracle good". But if he's that good, maybe we save the cap space ... and start thinking about how good JV, DD, DC, KL, TR and Bruno (and even Bebe and others) might be the year after ... and whether we can do without Durant.

Honestly, I think a title without having to sign a Max guy (other than guys we already have) would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeet-est.

    It's a dream. But it's not a straight-up fantasy (I don't think).

Ross is in a bad spot. First of he has to realise that Masai went out and spend $60 million on a free agent because he doesn't believe Ross has shown to be a capable starter in this league giving how inconsistent he was during last season and how poorly he played during the playoffs once again. Secondly there is a hungry rookie with a chip on his shoulder by the name of Norman Powell out there who will gladly steal his already reduced minutes if he again comes and plays unmotivated and uninspired basketball.

Ross needs some fire burning under his ass or he will have plenty of time to play
video games in the near future.

On the other hand, let's say Ross played on a bum ankle last year but drew the toughest perimeter assignment every night anyway because apparently Ross on 1.5 ankles is still a better defender that DD on two ankles. Snooch has a good point that if Ross were to come back healthy and play next to DC (after some DD trade), Ross would be taking an easier defensive assignment every night and could just focus on 3&D. A starting lineup of KL/TR/DC/PP/JV would actually spread the floor really well. I think Ross in that lineup would look better than he did last year, and it would be a lot easier to make use of JV's post game. Wait for the double and kick it out!! All the way from Scarborough, baby

Ross has every reason to play out the season. A long term deal at this point in time would require him taking 5 - 6 per year

I don't see the attachment to this guy. He's had 1 good game and won the dunk contest. I'm not sure why people believe he's so untouchable that we shouldn't trade him.

You don't trade when value is low.

Selling him off for little return is just bad asset management when the guy still has skills (37% 3P), athleticism and potential. Let him play in a better suited role (and/or his natural position) and see if he can produce. Then you can gauge his value for an extension or at least trade for actual value. If he bottoms out, not missing out on much based on current return projections.

I also wouldn't classify a 50 point game as "good". There's not too many guys who have done that in their career.

The problem with Ross is something only he can fix. All the god given ability and talent is there, but how he applies himself is so lacking.

Hope he figures it out because it would be sad if he never amounts to being anything more than Anthony Morrow.

I think Ross should NOT sign an extension and double down on himself.

Also, I think the Raps have completely screwed over his development and would like to see him play for another team in a better situation.

Sometimes it is pretty hard to improve and grow as a player when there are a bunch of double standards and mixed signals. Thanks Dwayne...

Give him a little time, kid has a great complimentary skillset with his defense, athleticism and shooting ability.

If we can keep him cheap there is not reason not to.

What about the other 81 games of inconsistency? As a GM, I wouldn't let an extraordinary single game prevent me from trading a player who didn't play a fraction as good in all the other games of the season.

Corey Brewer is another player that had a 50 + point game but that didn't stop him from being traded by Minnesota. Although I think Minnesota could have got a lot more in exchange for him but they were in tank mode and still are.

I'd be willing to deal Ross if there was a reasonable package on the table for him right now or wait for his value to go back up and sell him when his value has peaked.
