I think OP needs to change his first post and thread title, the thread is clearly about trading Terrence Ross not about draft picks.

Marc Stein: Raptors Looking To Bring Vince Carter "Home".

I haven't had much time to peruse the site last night or this morning, so I'm not sure if this has been posted already or not.

      Marc Stein/ESPN wrote:
      5. Any offseason surprises in store from the Raps?

There's a pretty tasty free-agent scenario in circulation ... if it comes to fruition.

Word is that the Raptors have been kicking around the idea of making a free-agent play this summer to try to bring Vince Carter "home" by trying to sign the former face of the franchise away from the Mavericks.

Be advised that Carter has been very happy in Dallas these past three seasons. Very happy. He's emerged as the emotional leader of Dirk Nowitzki's team at this late stage of his career and, by all accounts, wants to re-sign with Dallas.

The Mavs, furthermore, are said to be just as interested in signing the 37-year-old to a new deal, especially after Carter capped his bargain three-year, $9 million pact with a a turn-back-the-clock series against the Spurs.

I suppose this is where some Raptors diehards are going to follow up by berating me with loud claims that Vince would never be welcomed back north of the border after the circumstances surrounding his departure in 2004. But I ain't buyin' it. I've never bought that. Trying to sign him now, as a veteran sage on a young team, is precisely the sort of splash we know new Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president Tim Leiweke loves to make.

Makes too much sense for the Raps not to explore it.

No surprise. Still hope it doesn't happen, for both basketball and non-basketball reasons.

I don't think it's fair to blame Casey for that. Jonas had fine games to start the series and Casey gave him plenty of burn, only pulling him when it was clear Jonas was running out of gas and needed rest. (Maybe Casey was a little overcautious there but nothing unreasonable.) In the second half of the series Jonas simply stopped playing defense and his rebounding went to hell, and that's not on Casey at all.
            Game 4 he struggled.

Game 5 onwards Chuck Hayes played when it mattered most.

Casey went with him until he screwed up and then the faith was lost.

That is not how to inspire confidence or create positive reinforcement.

Surely we can get another back up SF without so much baggage attached.

Who might contribute more long-term, who might have a higher up-side, who might not need to be overpaid to lure away from current team, etc...

Id be more down for Chandler Parsons, seems like the Rockets are unsure if they will retain him.

Who gives a fuck about long term when you're addressing the backup SF position? He'll get 20 minutes a game or less. Our draft pick this year will be addressing the future. Vince is sliding into that Salmons role, and he can do it much better for the next 2-3 years than the fish could.

Vince brings veteran leadership, solid play for the position (still above average PER, TS%, 3pt%), and EYEBALLS to the Raptors games. That's the main reason to bring Vince back. EYEBALLS! He'll probably be the most popular player on the team, and that's not an exaggeration.

We love to bitch and moan here about how US fans (and TV stations) don't give a shit about the Raptors. Adding Vince will instantly make them care a bunch more. Adding Dorrell Wright or someone else of that ilk won't do shit for interest in the team.

Big mistake ... He will be cancer in the locker room with his shitty work ethics and love for playing in US. We need hard nosed Veterans who have passion to teach, play defence and are known for their work ethics. No more Mama's boy please.

The baggage is with the fans though. Carter doesn't have any baggage that would affect him on the court.

Agree that overpaying is a bad idea. Anything more than the vet's minimum is a bad idea.

Where did you read that? The only thing Houston is deciding regarding Parsons is whether to make him restricted now and resign him, or let him play one more year on the cheap to reach unrestricted status, and resign him then.

Basically, 0% chance Parsons leaves Houston. Also, he'd be a $10M per year player, not someone we can afford until 2015.

News flash for you, No one haves a damn about Vince anymore in US. That might have been true 5 years ago but right now, he is just an old , underachieved, over paid , close to retirement player who never did anything special in this league in the eyes of the fan.

LOL, everyone in Dallas loves him. You're assuming he's the same Vince he was 15 years ago.
