Yeah, everyone who compares us to the Hawks ignores that they spent over $20M per year on Joe Johnson, a guy who deserves half that. It basically hamstrung them for the foreseeable future, hence why they couldn't get any better. Our biggest contract is $12M per year to Kyle Lowry, which is a good value contract. We're also loaded with young talent on good deals. The Hawks were trotting out Mike Bibby at PG and had zero bench.

The Hawks also blew a few draft picks (Shelden Williams, Acie Law, Damion James, John Jenkins, even Marvin Williams who was okay for them, but they passed on Chris Paul for), when they could have gotten guys that either could have helped their rotation, or been trade bait for a star. And there's a risk we do the same. But, fact remains the Hawks have only themselves to blame for the reason they never took that next step.
