Man that Patterson deal looks awesome now.

Plus they've got an even bigger logjam at forward now. Let's help ease things up by taking Tobias Harris off their hands.

whats up with the Magic throwing money left and right.

Signed Frye for 8 per 4.
and continue to stock up players at the 3/4 spots. Couple of guys down there now that are worthwhile calls on. Andrew Nicholson, Tobias Harris and Maurice Moe Harkless. Adding Frye + Gordon says maybe some is for sale.

You got to wonder if Orlando would have been better off with Patterson's $30M/4 year reported deal. Frye is a good player but Patterson is younger, healthier and just as good. Glad we got him back for a better deal though.

Orlando is going to have a hard time fielding a team by overpaying guys like Frye.

Frye is 31. That contract is going to look horrible in the final 2 years. PPat looks like an even bigger steal now. Plus loyal. This tells me PPat turned down an extra year and more per year from Orlando to come back to Toronto. The man wants to win.

I would trade the Toronto 2016 first for Nicholson and Harkless if it also meant unloading Fields at the same time.

it looks like a good deal, but we are already super young. we dont need to get too young to a point where its detrimental to our team's win column.

Also, we need that 2016 pick, we have bigger fish to fry with that pick. *Kayyy Deee*

We have two. 2016 NYK/DEN and 2016 TOR. Could protect the Toronto pick. Sometimes being forced to pick one player to develop leads to better results than multiple picks. Also have extensions to Ross and JV coming up and we could use the salary dump of a first rounder especially a late first.

    Ok, Lets try again.

So, OKC doesnt get to the Finals next year and the following is the only year KD is under contract. Extension talks with KD does not go anywhere.

Sam Presti, the man that doesnt like loosing its assets for nothing decides its better to get something in return for KD than seeing him walk for nothing. and KD is in the market now.

If you are the Raptors, what do you have to offer so that OKC is happy to deal KD to Raps?

There is a salary floor in the NBA that all teams must pay one way or another (either to players or the difference to the players on the team).

    Orlando is reaching the floor.

My guess they are accumulating tradeable assets. Orlando faces same type of difficulties in free agency as many other small market teams.

Obviously there is a market for stretch 4 in the league.

There has been rumours about GSW sending Lee to Orlando, Kerr has said he wants a stretch 4, GSW reportedly interested in Frye but could only offer MLE, Orlando reportedly really wanted Barnes (afflalo and first declined).
Connecting a few dots and we could see a trade after December 15th.

But this is pure speculation obviously.

Re PPat...not only that but he is smart to understand that his big payday is in front of him. If he is with a rising/winning team and is shown to contribute to it and possibly become a starter he could strike a big next contract. Good for him... and the Raps.

Frye makes no sense at that price point. I agree with you 100% and maybe they would have got him for $28M over four years and that definitely makes more sense than Frye.

    Pretty much. Almost exactly, really.
The only thing exact is overpaying.

Comparing the calibre of players of parsons to fields is not bright.

Fields contract was a Gilbert Arenas offer like Lin and Asik.

Cap hit would have been 5/5/8.75 for New York

All sorts of implications for Knicks especially in year 3.

Also fields was injured making it look way worse than actually should have been. Note: still an overpayment.

We are all pretty familiar with the cap in the NBA at 63.3.. What is the floor ?

Edit-- I looked it up with Larry Coon FAQ. Says 52.8M this year.
Sure looks like the magic even after that 4 year 32M have some more salaries to add. Almost 20m ??. Perhaps they could use Chuck and Landry for one of Harris / Harkless and a future 1st round pick.

    Player 2014/2015
    Jameer Nelson Waived $2,000,000
    Arron Afflalo Traded
1 Evan Fournier From Denver $1,483,920
    Hidayet Turkoglu * N/A
    2 Victor Oladipo $4,978,200
    3 Al Harrington * $3,804,900
    Quentin Richardson N/A
    4 Jason Maxiell $2,500,000
    5 Maurice Harkless $1,887,840
    6 Nikola Vucevic $2,751,260

There is a market for stretch 4's, but I doubt it's that active for a 31-year-old as thoroughly mediocre as Frye when he's making $32mm/4 years. And I doubt they would have been going after Patman too if they were just aiming to sign and later trade... that kind of thing would be more specific to the player I think.

It's a weird deal.... an awful lot to pay for a veteran presence as Hennigan apparently said they were looking for.
