woah 5 mill a year for a guy thats 36 and can only usually play 15 minutes a game as an energy guy
what has the nba come to this offseason
the summer of the role player

meeks gets $6.5 mill a year after being a minimum player
    Ben gordon gets $5 mill
    jordan hill gets $9 mill
    marvin williams gets $7 mill
    chandler parsons gets $16 mill

mark my words, GMs are going to be throwing first rounders away with these guys soon cause these people don't deserve that money
i think, except for parsons, those are all two year deals. which means next year they are large expirings for teams looking to shed salary. i think what we are seeing is the gms adapting to the new cba. signing the core to longer fairer deals and the rest to short term deals that keep them above the floor and below the tax.

teams like detroit won't want to pay 90 million in taxes unless they are completely bananas. next year they are taxed higher, and higher. so the easiest way for them to get under is to pay 9 million for jordan hill from next years deadline or draft and make sure their books are set for july tax season.

that is why philli is grabbing everyone. if they have to pay the floor anyway why not fill it up with people for a couple years you can then trade for more youth. those tax teams won't want cap holds or guaranteed first rounders on their rosters either.

I think Mario Chalmers could've been a good get for us. Good on defense except against the Spurs, underrated floor general. And cheap, especially if we didn't get/trade/or doesn't produce Lou Williams.

I know that last part doesn't make sense, but yeah

And so u thought Salmons couldn't cut it anymore? Signing a 2mill/1 yr deal with the Pelicans (according to Stein). Casey must be going "Damn!".

Being a capped out team with no bench = 2M for Salmons. Glad it isnt us.

    Am I reading this right?

"Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has high praise for the Dallas Mavericks' front office and former forward Chandler Parsons. Compliments aside, there's a reason Houston declined to match the Mavs' offer to Parsons. "The contract (Parsons) got...the Mavericks are a smart organization; they obviously wanted to get him...that structure of that (contract) is literally one of the most untradeable structures I've ever seen," Morey told KBME-AM 790 in Houston."

With dripping sarcasm Morey is one pissed gm.

I like that move for NOLA.. they have a lot of young talent. Could definitely use a veteran with good attitude in the locker room.

Pistons got Caron Butler for 2 years $10 million and DJ Augustin for 2 years $6 million.

At this point I don't really think it even matters the number associated with these 2 year deals (Jordan Hill $18 million, Vasquez $13) it's so obvious teams are setting themselves up for free agency 2 years from now, or in conjunction with the new TV deal. Even big name players like Lebron and Deng have signed 2 year deals, in addition to Kobe's 2 year deal starting next year.

Except they probably won't have a coach that plays him over 20 mpg.

Jordan Hill technically only has a 1 year contract since his second year is a team option. Hence the $9M/yr price tag.. but yeah the theme of this free agency is short term contracts.

NBA is going for Temps just like everyone else. Eventually all players will be on 10 day contracts

This is telling me the new CBA is working. It might not be forcing down the $'s per year (logically it can't with the salary floor and increasing cap), but it has certainly limited the amount of years being given, which was the major problem with these contracts for mid to low level talent. Hayes 4 year deal is a perfect example of bad contract under the old CBA that isn't being given out this year.

Yeah, helps protect GMs from giving out bad contracts for the most part and also increases interest for the NBA offseason since there'll virtually always be marquee free agents available every year.

Poor Alan Anderson. How does he end up not getting overpaid? Actually possibly underpaid in this market....Re-signed with Nets for 2 years $3M.

What's this all about? Birdman raped somebody?... Or he was raped?

The irony is, with the increasing cap, the right long term contracts are a lot more valuable than they've ever been.

Thinking more and more that Lebron and Riley's conversation went like:

Lebron: so what's the plans for the team moving forward?
Riley: you mean besides re-signing everyone?
    Lebron: ...
Riley: Actually give me a second, I got josh mcroberts agent on the line!
Haha! I think it's not far from reality.

In hindsight, the Heat had small market mentality. They went 6-10 mil into tax. But nothing crazy. They signed a few midlevel players and a few discount veterans. They spent just enough for their owner to avoid uncomfortable questions and getting called a cheap ass.

The Heat spent less than the Cavs did when they had LeBron. Which is pretty crazy since the Cavs are from a much worse market and weren't as close to championships.

Even the Jordan Bulls with their "cheap" owner used to spend. For example, in 1997 the Bulls led the league with 58 mil payroll, while the next team spent 45 mil and 25 teams were under 35 mil.

If Riley and Micky Arison came to LeBron and said "we'll do anything it takes to win championships, we don't have cap space, but we'll trade for Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings, Eric Gordon, any decent player on a bad contract that we can find," then maybe LeBron would decide differently.

Instead the Heat were scared of repeater tax, so they decided to have flexibility, ask everyone to take paycuts and get Josh McRoberts.

Stay with a cheap declining team or go home to a young talented team that spends like a major market team. An easy choice.
