  • Hey Dan, can we keep the rights to Lou if we acquire someone via S&T?

For example, had Wes not signed with Dallas, could we have done Ross for Wes and then used our bird rights to resign Lou?

    • If the 13 total salaries net less than the projected salary cap of $69.1 million, I believe you may resign your free agents .

That's what I thought. Not including Bismack I believe

        • No, we could not, as Lou's cap hold takes up cap space, and therefore we would have to match salaries in a trade.

          • Run down of assumptions:

Cap is 69.1M (this rumoured instead of projected 67.1M).
Carroll's deal backloaded, so starts at 14.05M (could be flat, starting at 15M)
Joseph's deal backloaded, so starts at 7.03M (could be flat starting at 7.5M)

These assumptions results in 4.1M in cap space left.

If all are wrong, no cap space left.

            • Seems most of those assumptions are right, if Basketball insiders is trustworthy (they are the second best out there, and Sham is pending some serious updates and seemingly a whole new website). 14.05M for Carroll, 7M even for Joseph.

DeRozan came in at 10.05M, which means he had several incentives and not just 1, and that he met some of them but not all.

So, if the cap is 67.1M, we have 1.6M in cap room. If 69.1M, 3.6M in cap room.

                And that includes Ridnour waived?

                    • That is based on 12 players correct counting towards the cap? Plus the RE for the amount of $2.8 million.

That is based on 11 players on the cap right now, assuming Ridnour is waived, with a roster slot hold for the 12th spot. The Room MLE will be given to Bismack Biyombo, but of course doesn't play into cap space as he'll be signed after it is all used up.

Interpreting what you are saying , the 11 players total $65 million plus $525,000 for the 12th roster spot. So if a player is signed for the value for the 12 th spot is $4.1 million,- that is how the $69.1 ( new rumored projected cap) is reached.

The way it works is that you have a cap hold for every spot except the one you will sign next. So since the minimum roster is 13 players, the Raptors have 11 signed (with Ridnour assumed waived), so they have a roster spot hold for the 13th spot (525k) and cap room for the 12th spot. That means 3.6M for the 12th spot. Then when that spot is filled, the 525k hold disappears and we have 525k cap room to sign a 13th player. Essentially the idea is that you never need an exception to fill out the roster. And that's exactly it - even though we are planning to use the Room MLE to get our 13th man (Biyombo) that 13th roster slot hold still sits there ruining everyone's fun until after we sign our 12th man.

                            • Dan , thank you, that clarifies if people want Markief Morris, they most trade $4.4 million in players - ie. JJ plus Bebe . Can a TPE for that amount be beneficial in the players place?

                              • Do we know that Hansbrough's rights have been waived? What was his cap hold?
