Hayward and Parsons too. I think the only lock of that group is Thompson and the rest of those guys will be fighting for the 12th spot. I don't see him making it tbh

So im assuming only 3 point guards, all 4 big men, and Durant, George, and harden will make it*

Derozans knock is lack of 3pt shot.

All guys he is up against are good shooters.

Klay, parsons, and Hayward are also good defenders.

I'm not sure dd's strengths are needed considering the ball handlers and scorer's the team has.

Not hating here just thinking what the end of the bench player coaches are looking to have. Shooting and defense specialists seem more likely than what DeRozan brings, IMO.

Don't think so .. his game doesn't really look like what they need. If he was a better 3 point shooter, with better handles he would've made it for sure..

Great question. In the International game stretch 4's and 3's who can play the 4 have higher value, so, that might narrow who he's competing against (if they think he can play SOME 3 in smaller lineups) I don't think he makes it, but it'll be close.

I think what Team USA is looking for nowadays, compared to the past, are specialists. Thompson, Parsons, Beal, Korver, Hayward (what seems to be his competition of making the team) are all either good shooters, defenders, or both. DeRozan is neither, but much more explosive an athlete, scorer, and all-around offensive player, which is already covered in guys like Durant, George, Harden, etc. It'll be hard to make the team, but considering Team USA likes to play small-ball, he does have a chance, can play the 3, and in International ball, the 4, too.

I expect Team USA to play lots of 2-PG lineups.

I will add onto my 'playing the 4' comment. DeMar is also effective in the high/low post, and better than those above names in that position offensively (correct me if I'm mistaken).

I don't know how reliable this guy is? someone just RT'd this on my TL. But IF this is true then i think DeMar makes the team. Klay is automatic.

I'd be surprised if they brought in all 4 big men. I don't think they've played with such a lineup in a long long time internationally. It's been 2 or 3 bigs, with at least one of them being a capable floor spacer....So I assume with Millsap getting the late invite, he's basically a lock. Then I think Davis gets in because of his talent and versatility. Then they decide if they want one of Cousins/Drummond, but probably don't take both.

Yeah prob not. Plus Demar likes to work with the ball in his hands and there will be plenty of those guys around. Klay and Beal are the type that work off picks and move without the ball.

I would take DeRozan over Beal any day, any time. He is more mature, more explosive, just the kind of guy you want coming off the bench. He can score in a variety of ways, his rebounding and assist numbers are better. I suspect Coach K will see it the same way.

Have to slightly disagree. DeMar regularly comes off screens without the ball in mid range, and backdoor cuts. He can play off the ball a bit.

Derozan is a great catch and shoot guy, and also has the ability to post up smaller guards. Both skills can prove to be very useful for Team USA. He is a terrific shot creator and gets to the rim at a high rate.

As was previously stated, the roster already has names like Harden, George, and Durant to carry the scoring burden, so USAB might be looking to surround these guys with defensive players who stretch the floor.

I hope that Demar makes it, it only means bigger and better things for the Raptors this coming season.
I know this may be a bit controversial but I think the Raptors have proven that they're the best team in the NBA from Canada

That's actually where DeMar does a lot of his damage. Off pin-downs, curls, back-door cuts, mainly because the Raptors run tons of off-picks, and flex action. DeRozan is as good an off-ball offensive option there is in the league.
