  • Bill Simmons is suspended by ESPN

BS is not the most popular dude here in Raptorland so he may not get much sympathy here. He got himself suspended for 3 weeks for taking on Roger Goodell and the NFL, ESPN's $15 billion dollar partner in a tirade on his podcast.

    Here's what he said:
“Goodell, if he didn’t know what was in that tape, he’s a liar. I’m just saying it. He is lying. I think that dude is lying, if you put him up on a lie-detector test, that guy would fail. And for all these people to pretend they didn’t know is such [expletive] [expletive], it really is, it’s such [expletive] [expletive].

“And for him to go on that press conference and pretend otherwise, I was so insulted. I really was.” …

“I don’t like liars. Really, I think just people who, when you know they’re lying and they’re lying anyway, those are the worst people. We know you’re lying!” …

“I really hope somebody calls me or emails me and says I’m in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell. Because if one person says that to me, I’m going public. You leave me alone. The commissioner’s a liar, and I get to talk about that on my podcast. … Please, call me and say I’m in trouble. I dare you.”
ESPN really skirts the issue in it's own coverage of the discipline of Simmons.

I doubt that BS was undisposed when he made those comments. He knew what he was doing. His whole schtick is to get segments of his audience (and he has much) riled up for obvious reasons. And yes, I do believe Goodell is a lying *&^%

i used to be a bit of a simmons disciple back in the day, i'd read pretty much everything he did. then he started getting more involved with espn and podcasts and i couldn't really be bothered. Grantland is pretty much the best thing about espn but its moreso the other writers, especially Lowe and Barnwell. he's gotten pretty annoying, especially when he's on TV. a lot of people hate on him claiming what a homer he is but i kind of like it. it's sort of nice to see personalities openly root for their teams, i don't see anything wrong with it.

anyways, this is pretty insane. he got suspended longer than ray rice did initially, which in itself is hilarious.

I think people typically tune in to hear what "experts" think will happen and what's their take on the current happenings.

I don't think people typically tune in to hear what some guy hopes will happen or hear what someone has to say about current happenings when they show an inability to stand back and review all angles instead of speaking from a tunnel vision perspective. That's just me though, I could be the minority. I value insightfulness. I don't think this guy is illuminating anything right now besides the fact that freedom of the press is now an illusion.

And its pretty damn clear Goodell is a liar. Who you going to believe, him or a law enforcement officer who's sworn to uphold the law?

It could be that Simmons wants to be fired. He called out the higher ups at ESPN and has been suspended before.
