If Toronto is the reason, how come VC always was always number 1 in fan votes in the 2000s, as a Raptor??? The only times when he wasn't number 1 in votes was when Yao Ming entered the league.

No one gave a shit about Wade too until Shaq joined him and won in 2006. Bosh probably told him stuff about this issue, which is why I have no respect for that piece of shit. At least VC and TMac never said anything bad about our city.

Yea, gimme a break Wade. We heard about Stockton and Malone for years in Utah, and now we have Westbrook and Durant in OKC. GTFOH with that nonsense.

Reggie Miller in Indiana, Kevin Garnett in Minnesota, Tim Duncan in San Antonio, the 2000s Sacramento Kings, the mid 2000s Detroit Pistons, etc. Get that garbage outta here!!!

Wade is a guy who was openly disagreeing with video evidence (on that replayed 3pt/2pt attempt last night). That should tell us all we need to know about the bubble Wade lives in.

You guys are reading geography into Wade's comment. "Because he's in Toronto" could also refer to the fact that the Raptors have been sh*t for most of DD's career and therefore get no pub.

DD was also not a hyped draft pick. That means a lot in the ESPN-iverse.

I dunno why we're upitty about this. He's basically agreeing with us. Its the same question about Love, numbers on a shit team. The difference is Love is top 5 in the league DeRo is top 40.

Numbers on a shit team(up until last year), in an irrelevant conference in an even more irrelevant division. So all arguments for are edged by the reality.

If he does it again, on a team at least expected to do something(lead the second tier east conf teams), while the conference has new cachet of a new super team, while people are watching he gains the notoriety Bosh got after his first or second All-Star nod.

This. If you're a top 5-10 player, you will get positive exposure and respect. If you're a top 4 team in your conference, you will get positive exposure and respect. If you have both (see: KD), then geography doesn't matter. Also, if you have an exciting, uber-athletic freak (e.g. Carter, Griffin) who can play, you will get positive exposure. Melo is an (arguably) top 10 player in the #1 media market in the world, yet he gets as much negative exposure as positive. Geography is a factor, but it is way down the list.

                        Melo earns his negative exposure.

I don't give a shit about what US media says since I don't live there. I'm more disgusted with the Canadian media on how very limited the coverage is for the Raptors on free/basic cable when the reality is that the Raptors are Toronto's best team right now. Yeah sure they have NBA TV Canada, but it's not available for people who can only afford basic cable like me. Or how Sunday Night Football, with no Toronto/Buffalo Team playing is gonna show on TSN1,3,4,5 while a huge Raptor game vs the Miami Heat are on TSN2!!!

They have been doing that before, how they would show sports like NASCAR, Curling, Poker, etc. on a basic channel and put the Raptors on channels that you have to pay extra if you're on basic cable.

And the usual SportsCentre run through: Hockey, hockey, Sidney Crosby, Why the Leafs suck? What should the Leafs do? Should they fire Carlyle? Should Reimer or Bernier Start? 10 seconds of Raptor Highlights, Other Canadian Hockey Teams, American Hockey teams, Other sports...

TSN can't just move the NFL's products around their many channels on a whim. Those programming decisions would have all been negotiated when they got the rights to air those games in the first place. Same thing with the NHL or whatever else. They just can't bump the Leafs or whoever to their secondary stations because the Raptors got good all of a sudden. Those types of decisions are based upon existing contracts.

Your secondary point has a lot more merit - that the Raptors and the NBA in general seems to be treated as the secondary or tertiary sports option in Canada based on the amount of time and attention they receive on programs like Sportscenter. But like others have pointed out, that's not random either. The reason that hockey receives so much coverage on these types of shows is because the majority of the Country is still largely only concerned with the NHL. If you think they're clamouring for more Raptors pieces in Saskatoon right now, you've been misled.

Sure, but Sportsnet has the Raptors win as their 4th headline. TSN has them 6th.
