Any trade of Fields likely brings back non-expiring salary and little value. And he plays a role and plays it well - you keep that depth if you can.

I think this is at least somewhat a showcase...You need to move Fields because his role has been taken by JJ, he is moveable at the deadline as a cap move, but to get some extra value out of that you need these starts to point to, add-last years playoffs to the mix and you can make an argument that he is a defensive specialist that can help a team this season, when DeRozan is back he will be stapled to the end of the bench again...I trust that Masai will turn the situation to Toronto's advantage, he's got a pretty good track record so far...limpin ain't easy, but I make it look good...

Personally, I hope we play Landry more over the course of the season. Defence and ball movement are 2 things he brings to the table that we have been lacking at times.Heir, Prince of Cambridge
If you see KeonClark in the wasteland, please share your food and water with him.

We don't NEED to move Landry, because even in a diminished role, he has been a great team guy and has stepped in and played well when called upon. We COULD move Landry, and trust in JJ and whoever we bring in, but there certainly isn't a need.

People need to understand fields has no value.
Only thing you're going to get is if he balances salary in a larger deal with actual valuable assets leaving Toronto.
OR
Raps are taking a flier on a guy similar to what was done with Lou Williams. Say gallinari or McGee. Teams with a lot of payroll, not really playing well, and few options to improve next season.

Axel wrote: View PostYes, but those are very specific and, frankly, unlikely scenarios. The general idea that we need to move Landry makes no sense. Can you think of a more valuable 10th/11th guy on a team that is 100% team oriented, defends well and is an adept passer? Probably not. Factor in Landry's great off ball movement, I just don't see how we can get equal value back for what is a minor role. We aren't going to be able to flip him for a main contributor, and he is much better suited to our team than anyone we can likely bring in for him.

We definitely are showcasing Fields, but we are also keeping up the Karma level for our team and Landry. Imagine the all the bad JUJU if we let Landry Fields rot on the bench and call him useless? There would be scaffolding in the ACC falling on people!!
Ujiri is smart. He moved away Salmons to force Casey to play James Johnson or Landry if there is no DD available. THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE FOR YOU CASEY if you want wing defense NOW!
Landry only gave us class and good locker room spirit, plus a hottie-wife to look at. Seeing him in the line-up also increase the rate of memory expelling anything regarding to John FUCKING Salmons stealing all the minutes away from poor Landry last year.
Are we going to trade Landry at the deadline? I don't want to trade him because he yelled the "Crossfire" song on the team plane!

I still don't think the team is showcasing the guy. To the best of my knowledge, it's Casey who decides who gets to play and who doesn't, and I doubt he cares at all about showcasing expiring end of bench type players for potential trades. He wants to win games, and has decided to play Landry in order to maintain consistency with the bench unit. And so far, it seems like a better alternative to starting Vasquez.
As for trades, like others have mentioned he has little value as a player, but some due to the cap relief in the summer. That $8.5M off the books, and $6.5M in cap space is still very valuable to the Raps too. If he is traded, you have to imagine it will require losing assets or absorbing longer term salary, neither of which are more appealing than just keeping him and letting him expire and playing with that cap space in the offseason.

Good locker room pros are always needed. That basically sums up Matt Bonner's career for the Spurs
As for resigning..Lol..No,please no. Last year contract, same with hayes, package those 2 clowns and get proven playoff veteran player..ie..David West."Never apologize for coming to me. Office hours are for patients.
My kitchen is always open to friends"
