To follow up. Last 4 Raps head coaches - Casey, Triano, Mitchell, KO. All rookie head coach. ENOUGH.
Name some non-rookie head coaches who have worked out anywhere? The guys who got a shot at head coach and got fired usually suck, e.g. Mike Brown, Mike Woodson, Larry Drew, Dwayne Casey, etc...
Most head coaches who have success were former assistants of a very good team, or former players (Kerr, Kidd).
How about we just make a good hire. I never liked Triano, KO, or Mitchell. All of them seemed obviously bad choices.

There's always, always a gamble picking your next coach no matter what. So many variables and they get such a short leash - a couple months to a couple years if things aren't working out."We're playing in a building." -- Kawhi Leonard

Are they going to keep this group and compete ?
Do they think they have enough talents?

Billy Donovan is rumored for the OKC gig. Now that's a situation I could see convincing him to leave college for. If they stay healthy he could win a title in his first year as coach.
Then I'd throw Euro-grown coaches Obradovic and Messina in there at least for consideration. Messina is currently on Pop's staff, and I'm not sure what his plans are, but he's led two different teams to euroleague titles (twice each for 4 titles). Though he may have to wait a bit, I've wondered if he's being groomed for Pop's job. Obradovic is currently finishing up his season with Fenerbahce, who just made the Euroleague final four for the first time, and he has led every team he's ever coached to at least that much success (6 different teams). Four of them to titles (8 titles total). Think his contract ends after this season.
Not sure what to make of NCAA options. I'd be open to giving a guy a shot, but not sure who the right guy is.Last edited by white men can't jump; Wed Apr 22, 2015, 05:44 PM.

Exactly.
Requiring previous experience might eliminate a future great coach based on a silly criteria.
Just make a good hire - easier said than done, I know.

Surround him with some good assistants (offensive and defensive specialists)

Can we hire a coach who worries about both sides of the ball?

Alvin Gentry or Nate McMillan.
Next guy needs to be someone with some valuable head coaching and playoff experience in the NBA.
Mike Malone would be my last choice if the top 2 don't work out.
Thibs would be a part of the list, but i think his contract ends in 2016 season?
