They'd get killed inside and on the glass by any team with a legit C, or a decent C/PF combo that plays inside.
    Just like Drummond last night?

JV wouldn't really make much of a difference IMO. It's not like he's a great defender like Chandler. And besides teams with LEGIT C like the Kings and Rockets and Grizzlies always kills us JV or no JV.

I don't think the issue is with the roster, it's with the fans. The roster is exactly where you'd expect it to be if you removed the early season results; they're young and predictably inconsistent and fight hard despite being frequently overmatched.

This team is not built to win this year or the next, it's built to develop their young pieces while being relatively competitive right now. Why anyone expects more from this group is beyond me. They're positioned well to add someone in free agency or trade some assets for a disgruntled star and frankly given the lack of superstar talent on the roster, what else could you ask for?

I believe others have already documented in last night's game thread that a big chunk of Drummond's damage was done while JV was sitting, or as a result of JV switching off Drummond to cover a penetrating guard/wing.

There have been many games this season when DC sits JV in the 4th quarter of a close game, only to see the opposition get 2nd chance after 2nd chance after 2nd chance. The scramble defense looks good on paper because they caused the opposition to shoot a low %, yet their inability to gather defensive rebounds has resulted in wins being much closer than they should have been, comebacks falling short, or even wins turning into losses.

Drummond was 2 for 5 with JV off the floor, and 6 for 16 with him on. Total domination.

Guys.... this is what we should be using:

                  KL
                  DD
                  JJ
                  PP
                  JV

                  Bench:
                  GV
                  TR
                  LF
                  TH
                  CH

But we all know we won't see these lineups at all.

It was one game. JV has dominated him in every other game this season. Why are you making such a huge issue out of one game while conveniently forgetting about the other games.

Yeah, the team does need more talent. Its time for MU to get help for our All-star backcourt.

This roster has served it purpose. It made Toronto more attractive to NBA players.

Masai needs to get an All-star caliber frontcourt player to combine with one of the top backcourts in the league. He has the money, trading trade bait(Ross, JV,). Get it done Masai!

And this is why context is so important. Also, actually watching the game. Seems a lot of people just check out the box score. JV blocked the shit out of Drummond last night, only to have it dunked hard by a Detroit guard who was cruising to the hoop uninhibited by our guards who were supposed to be defending him. That's got to be pretty damn annoying for JV. He can't do everyone else's job for them.

You didn't even watch the game.

5 of those offensive rebounds were in about 4 1/2 mins of JV not playing him.

Drummond had 3 really good post moves on JV caused by JV letting him get position.

The rest ALL came off movement which caused JV to have to help and leave him.

Even Jack said in the fourth Q that when JV leaves to help, someone has to rotate to at least get a piece of Drummond.

                          That is basic stuff.

Inbounds plays on the right side of the court - especially during game 7, last possession.

                            Player movement.

                            Ball movement.

                            Regular rotations.

                            Good in game decision making.

The ability to adapt in game.

                            Change to flawed game plan.

New explanations to why the Raptors are 18-22 over last 40.

Youth to not be buried at the expense of old journeymen.

You're absolutely right that this team has a lot of potential in the future. The fact they have progressed fast than anyone thought is not an excuse for the type of mistakes that are going on night in and night out.

Making mistakes is fine. Making the same mistakes over and over again is inexcusable.

How about we develop JV into an Allstar caliber player.

Seriously, when people bring up the fact hat we've developed faster than expected it's annoying. Not because it's untrue, but because it's obvious we can be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.
