Its about Ross, a spot up shooter and how Casey's offense encourages mid-range shots. Whitman in Washington does the same thing. Its the definition of settling on offense. Nothing inside or outside just the middle

It's taking the shots the defense wants you to take. They want to keep you out of the paint and they want to chase you off the 3 point line. It's why "Those are our shots" is such a hilarious thing to say about shooting 35% on long two's...

One positive about Ross lately, is that he seems be using the threat of his good 3pt shot to mix up his approach, attacking more off the dribble. His short/mid-range pull-up/floater has been pretty effective, which should only serve to benefit him as he gets more practice and more comfortable doing so.

I'd still prefer him to be primarily a set shooter from 3pt range, but a good scorer needs to be able to at least keep the defense honest. With experience should also come an improved court vision, to allow him to be more effective with his decision making once he's penetrated off the dribble.

His progress has been slower than expected and his defensive regression has been frustrating, but there are definitely a few silver linings in there, especially over the past few weeks.

Yep. Our shooters don't get shots in "rhythm" on a regular basis as a designed first or second option. Often times, you'll see Lowry barrel into the defence with blinders on heading to the rim, but he ends up being trapped. Then he starts to scramble around like a cornered mouse looking for somebody to dump off the hot potato to, all the while burning time off the shot clock. DD & Lou are basically the same, but they end up taking contested shots more often. Then you'll see a dump-off to Patterson or Ross who have been standing around for 15-20 seconds somewhere behind the 3-pt line. Then people will complain that we can't hit our "open" 3's. But, the Raps have shown the ability to pass and move the ball, so not sure who has more blame here - Casey or the ball-handlers.
IMO this (bold) is the key. But, this might be a chicken or egg question.
Do 2Pat & Ross "stand around" bec they know GV will just dribble for 20 secs looking for a screen to launch a contested 3 OR
GV & KL dribble for 15-20 "hoping" for somebody to get open?
I tend to go with first (same as you) opinion.
But still: Ross & 2Pat standing does not help. Just bec you ran screens/cuts...for 2-3 possessions & don't get a ball, it does not mean stop doing it. Reggie Miller never stop moving, yet he averaged what 10-12 shots PG? That means with his running/cutting, he only got the ball maybe 15-20% of time.
Look at SA offence: Parker dribbles at the top, while other 4 guys are running/cutting/setting screens for each other in order for somebody to get open for a layup or an uncontested shot.
With us (GV especially) "the ball sticks". Result predictable (and easy to defend) offence.

Also why we are seeing 2Pat take more shots inside. Guys are closing out on Ross and Patterson, taking away the 3. It's good to see him make a play inside off the bounce, cause the dish back out to a guard to reset the play gets frustrating sometimes. Nice to see some decision making from these guys outside of shoot, screen, pass to guard or rebound. If we are going to continue to play this style of offense it's great to see some creativity from these guys, cause it gives the D more to worry about.

Yep, our offense is limited in it's ability to initially bend the D. Any team with great perimeter defenders and good PnR defenders will be very difficult to beat because we have little to no off the ball movement. Also, we don't use the PnR effectively, it's mostly just a screen being set and the big rolls more as a decoy to hopefully get a guard an open look. I think our play lately has been better, so hopefully it continues into the playoffs.
