Being asked to do what is not his strength?

Lack of professionalism (work off the court)?

    Adapting to a child?

    Lack of consistency?

Happy with status quo knowing he has a contract next year?

Tough to speculate when on outside looking in. Bottom line: he has regressed and that is unfortunate.

I think the biggest factor is his confidence (or lack thereof). It seems easily shaken. A few bad stretches, and he looks like his dog died.

Unlike most lottery picks, who play with a quiet confidence that they should've been picked higher, Ross seems to play like he's scared to fail. I'm not sure if "getting stronger" or "playing in the right system" can fix that.

      Ross' biggest hurdle is himself.

No no, it's obviously JV's fault.

                Cuz Casey and stuff.

This board has gotten overboard. You'd think Casey started the holocaust at this point. Everyone else is having decent statistical offensive years (Lowry, DD, JV, Lou). At some point the athlete is more important than the coach. Terrence Ross just isn't that good. He'll be a career 3 pt "specialist" with crazy hops (in the open court), and good defense WHEN he decides to use his length and athleticism. So with that said, he'll have a long career as a 7-8th guy on good teams. But I don't think will ever see a borderline all star or anything like many had hoped a year or 2 ago.

I'd say these more than anything else.

in the offseason instead of being told "work on quicker release, and a 1 dribble counter", he was told "be more like DD - he's who I want to name my child after"

It hasn't worked at all and now he has massive confidence issues.

Surprise, another player in this organization who is told to develop something that has absolutely no bearing on them being a good NBA player.

Combination of his fault and coaching staff's fault. The looking disengaged, not developing his game, not locking in on defense, that's mostly on him. The coaching staff not using him in effective ways that develop his skillset on offence is part of the problem, too.

I think I've ranted about this before, but the Raptors had a play they were using with some frequency earlier in the season: Ross receives a couple screens below the basket, the second one usually from JV, and pops out on the left side of the court to receive the ball. To begin with, after the screen he would run out to the 3-point line, turn, catch-and-shoot. And it was reasonably effective. Then they had him taking the same play, except instead of running out to the 3pt line, he'd curl up towards the pass, and back into the lane, where he could put up a floater. And finally, he began to recognize on that play when the help was coming to him, which would leave JV wide open for the pass and dunk.

IMO, this is exactly how you develop an offensive player's decision-making: you give him one thing that he needs to look for, one read, that he needs to use to make a decision which will result in a high-percentage look. Getting into the key and knowing when and where to pass is a great skillset to develop. It's by no means a revolutionary play, but it was a solid building-block for Ross, and it seemed to me like it was working really well as a complimentary play.

And then the Raptors stopped running it. I haven't watched every minute of every game lately like I did the first part of the season, so maybe I just happen to be tuning-in late every time it's run, but I don't think that's the case. Correct me if I'm wrong. I think it was part of the Horns set that we aren't seeing as much of as last season and early this season. I'm not sure if the coaches stopped calling it, or if it was still being called but the ball-handlers were doing their own thing instead of passing to Ross.

I am huge fan of J.V.
The only difference between you and I is that I am also open minded when it comes to J.V., can see his flaws, can see the areas that he needs to improve and ...

Hopefully he will improve this summer and will be a big part of Raptor's future along side DD and a new coach

Plus, he's just not a good player. Problem with this forum is they OVERRATE every young players/prospects on this team. They talk about these guys like they're all future stars. It doesn't work that way. You see comments like "Ross is the future SG of the team" "Bruno and Bebe should both be in the rotation" blah blah blah. It's ridiculous and laughable.

I've also been saying it for almost 2 years now that Ross is nothing more than a ROLE PLAYER at best. And as ALWAYS i was right. People started to hype him up more after his fluky 51pts game vs the Clippers. And YES it was a fluke people.

After that 51pts game i read a bunch of crazy Ross comparisons. I've read a bunch of T-Mac comparisons lol. I maintained my stance that he's nothing more than a role player. But again posters here like to OVERRATE young players so it doesn't surprise me anymore.

I say this though, Ross is a 100x better prospect than Bruno. That's the highest compliment i can give him lol.

                          Meh. Like i care lol.

I talk REALITY not FANTASY. Most people here live in a fantasy world when it comes to the Raptors young players. And in basketball in general.

"Ross is the future SG of the team"

"I wouldn't trade Ross for Wall"

"Ross is a better SG than DeRozan"

"Bruno and Bebe should both be in the rotation. Both of them should get 5 mins a game"

Now those are the people that i can't take seriously.

I have never seen anyone say they wouldn't trade Ross for Wall and would love to know who said that. If it actually happened.
