Dwane Casey. Welp. Not sure what say.

Same old I guess. If anyone noticed, he even drew up a near-end-of-game play on the wrong side of the court again. He, again, let Paul Pierce go off as a small 4, again not bringing in his defensive specialist. Again, the offence deteriorated into isolation and tough jumpers by the guards. Again, the bigs got ignored (and in JV's case, underplayed).

None of this is new. How am I still surprised?
I tell myself this every day. And the thing is I feel Masai is gonna keep Casey no matter what so I can't even get excited about the fire Casey part.
I relish negativity and disappointment. It is not healthy. Somebody buy me a pony.

      • I didn't even watch the game and I am so disappointed. More so in me letting myself think we could win when I knew better. We all technically knew better. Anyone who knows basketball can tell you the way Raptors play will not win in the playoffs. Smh.

Relying too much on outside shooting and horrible defensive fundamentals (i.e boxing out)

Ehh, I'm being a little free with my criticism there. With 1:09 left in OT, the Raps tried to draw up an in-bounds play during a review of whether a foul on Lou was a clear path foul. They had to call a time out to avoid the 5 second call. When they went back out after the time out, Vasquez lined up on the near baseline (closest to camera) and gets directed to the other side by the ref. No one else seemed confused though, so it could have just been Vasquez rather than Casey screwing it up.

And this line that everyone on the team loves to use, "we just missed shots we normally make" or "we missed a lot of easy shots" doesn't help. It just means they see nothing wrong with what they're doing. Which isn't good.

                Need a more disciplined coach

                • I'm not defending Casey or his lack of play calling. My point is the team missed OPEN shots and easy shots at the rim. Lowry and DeRozan were absolute garbage. That's on them, not the coach regardless of his poor coaching and decision making.
Sunny ways my friends, sunny ways

                    • is anyone seriously surprised by what happened today? literally the only thing that shocked me was the comeback in the 4th quarter.

say what you want about Pierce but he was right. if you're surprised at how well he played you haven't watched him the past 5 years. playoff basketball is where he's a viking.

this goddamn team pisses me off so much it's infuriating

Absolutely. But their shot selection is a product of the culture Casey has instilled all year. And players can't really be blamed for missing open shots - that's just going to happen sometimes. But Casey's mistakes in this game were entirely controllable. So in a game where a single point one way or the other would have meant a win instead of a loss, yeah, I'm going to blame Casey for the loss. Even with the struggles by everyone to hit shots.

Bebe might have actually helped us this game.

Haha we're not throwing Bebe into a playoff game when he's probably played under 100 minutes this season.

Letting Hansbrough guard Pierce in the 2nd was completely INEXCUSABLE. That was the quarter were Pierce scored 8-10 straight points.

Raps also got outscored 27 to 19 in that qrtr.
