If only you were that much of a pushover in Dynasty.

Collison and #6 would be my minimum.
DC, #6, and Staukas gets it done.
Another interesting option is letting them keep their 2015 pick, and taking their 2016 (unprotected) instead.

Stauskas, 2016 1st, any salary junk. Gives the Raps a lot of ability to trade up in next year's draft, or multiple shots at an impact player.

Divac thinks he's more skilled than Shaq... Not much credibility there. Karl's influence however is something to watch out for.

Forgot about the exact situation. Even then, they could have got something useful besides a trade exception. (late 1st, rotation player)
If Phoenix had no cap space, I'd agree. However Phoenix had the cap space. Sacramento had no leverage.

Why would the Suns give up a pick or player they didn't have to?

Kings owe 2016 1st rd pick to Bulls

2016 first round draft pick to Chicago
Sacramento's 1st round pick to Chicago (via Cleveland) protected for selections 1-10 in 2016 and 1-10 in 2017; if Sacramento has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Chicago by 2017, then Sacramento will instead convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Chicago protected for selections 56-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Chicago will be extinguished) [Cleveland-Sacramento, 6/30/2011; Chicago-Cleveland, 1/7/2014]

Doubt that the Suns were the only team willing to deal for a guard averaging 20 and 6.

But Phoenix could have just signed him outright and Sac would have gotten nothing. Sac agreed to the S&T to recoup anything and it allows the Suns to give more years/money. A win win is better than getting nothing.

As I said before, Irving and Thomas had very similar stat lines. There has to have been some other offer where they get more in return in a S & T. Teams like Houston and Knicks would have definitely given up a pick or a rotation player for him. Sac flat out rushed the situation and got a trade exception for a 20 & 6 player.

Nope, not anymore. No extra money or years.

Yeah, I guess there's that. Oh well.

But you are ignoring that free agency allows a player to choose where they want to play.

Forgetting the fact that it is quite possible Phoenix were offering the most cash of any other team, what good is it if another team was offering more if Thomas had no interest in playing for that team?

But as mcHappy pointed out, Free Agents get to choose where they want to sign. I think you are ignoring far too much in your hyperbole of the Kings front office ineptitude.

Assumed the Kings had more control in the S&T then they actually did. One last shot in the dark, couldn't the Kings have picked up his team option for next season? Could have traded him later on if necessary. (Or did he not have a 4th year on his contract?)

He was a 2nd round draft pick and his contract expired.

He could have signed the qualifying offer to become unrestricted this summer but in the process delayed and risked losing $30M.

Because the Kings didn't want to pay that much for him they had absolutely NO leverage whatsoever.

In other words, that was a really bad example.

                              SIXTH THOUGHT

Stop wasting everyone's time. Build a finesse team, get a coach who handles that well. This team is not a well oiled machine it's Frankenstein's monster. I will never for the life of me understand why we went away from the offense of 13/14 for the iso heavy 14/15.
Lou's shoot first, second & third mentality really messed up Casey. It's like giving a violent kid, a BB gun. Not good.
