Tanking in its most basic sense has been around in sports since the modern eras. A team realizing its out of it for the season, and trading all its past their prime guys or guys in their last contract year for younger players. Obviously certain teams have taken it way past that, for multi year tanks, etc. Certain markets can get away with it, certain can not. The Lakers give the appearance of going for free agents like Aldridge this summer or Melo last summer but if you look at the roster it's a mix of oft injured well past his prime Kobe plus unproven youngsters and high volume chuckers. Speaking semantically, what's in a name? That which we call tanking. (shout out to 3inthekeon).
