As long as the Knicks are owned by James Dolan and run by Phil Jackson the only direction they have is south. Pick is now 10th and looks to be improving.

Two games to watch tonight:
Wizards at Knicks: Wizards can push New York down the standings and create additional separation between them (Washington currently 1.5 games ahead of New York in the standings.
Celtics at Bucks: Double Whammy potential! Bucks can close gap to just 1 game behind NY (assuming Knicks' loss) and can create additional space between the Raptors and the third place Celtics.

Basically, never trade first round picks unless you’re already an established contender. Just never do it. It almost never works out OK.

Houston trades first round pick for James Harden
Boston trades first round pick for Ray Allen
Every situation needs context and individual reasoning. Following inflexible rules of thumb is the surest way to missing opportunities.

I think a good rule of thumb is to always, always trade current year draft picks or picks from other teams before you trade your own future picks. Because you really want any misfortune your team suffers to be tied inversely to a draft pick's value. If all goes wrong at least you have your picks.
Obviously there are times to trade future picks, but those are just the exceptions that prove the rule.
