  • I wonder if Brad Steven job will be on the line next year if he fails to get past the first round again.

Not to be mean, but, can you grasp nuance?

It's a long regular season, and different teams struggle at different times for various reasons. The Celtics probably overperformed a bit during the regular season because of being well coached and coming out hard on a nightly basis.

The Hawks struggled a bit in the regular season for various reasons. But when you get to the playoffs, everyone's 0-0, and the Hawks are healthy and the Celtics are missing their best defensive player. Also, the Hawks have a lot of star power and the 4th best bench in the league.

A Raptors fan should understand how important a strong bench is in the playoffs, especially this year.
So how come you always bring up the regular season records when you talk about the Raps/Pacers series? Do they not start 0-0?

The Raptors have bought in on coach and system, and built a roster to succeed. The Celtics are a team that hasn't taken their shot yet. They're in the stockpiling assets phase and are major players to take the next step this summer in terms of adding assets.

The Raptors don't have cap space, and are in a place where it's much, much harder to move the roster forward. Don't have cap space for a max slot, and don't have anywhere near the Celtics' assets in terms of picks.

The Celtics weren't even supposed to be a playoff team last year, the Raptors were supposed to contend.

Really? Boston never lost in the first round with homecourt advantage. Nice try.

He is, it's just that Avery Brdley, Kelly, and Sullinger are all injured, with 60% of Amir functioning as well

Of course it is. Teams are at different stages, and you expect different things. Brett Brown won 10 games, and doesn't deserve to be fired because the 76ers weren't trying to win games.

The Celtics weren't trying to make the ECF. They're just trying to be entertaining until the trade shows up that lets them get their superstar with their trade assets.

The Raptors need to be successful. Lowry is our best player, and he's 30. DeMar's 26. If we're going to win with those guys, it needs to be now or we need to move on.

Doubt ATL gets swept this time around.

When Boston gets swept with home court advantage after losing the previous year's playoff series (also with home court advantage and a final play drawn up on the wrong side of the court); then you can say it's a double standard.

Boston is a team that's been severely overachieving due to it's coaching. It's the best example of a team playing better than any one of it's individual parts. Considering that they came into the series pretty banged up; the fact that they took two games is nothing to be ashamed of.

he either can't or he chooses not to. i'm not sure which is worse.

At least he took 2 games from the 4th seed. Last year Casey couldn't take a single one from the 5th seed.

                              • Missed on the heat check fearless prediction on Thursday. Called the Pluckys to win but like Howard Cosell said in the Thrilla in Manilla.. “Down goes Boston, Down goes Boston, Down goes Boston”.

And it was inevitable. The Hawks are a better team and can get scoring from more than ONE GUY… Which is a nice segue to the three on tap tonight.

Raps vs Pacers . When you only get to see Paul George four times a year and its during the regular season and you tend to lose sight of just how effing good this guy is. In the regular season he doesn’t have to amp it up all the way for say game 17 on a Monday night in November. Now that it’s the second season where it matters a lot we are seeing just how good this guys is. He is what is separating us from the second round. Not Myles Turner.. not Ian Mahamni…not George Hill… not Solo Hill… not Monta Ellis… nope none of those guys. JUST PAUL FUCKING GEORGE.

Still regardless of how good he is I am a firm believer that one guy can’t beat a whole team in a seven game series without help along the way ( Jordan without Scottie Pippen vs the Bad Boy Pistons) and for that reason (the Pacers beyond PG13) aren’t collectively good enough is why the Raps will win tonight. George is going to show up again and he will play well, but so will Kyle and Demar and JV and Pat and Powell and Ross and CoJo and Biz and Demarre. We just have more guys to win the war of attrition with.

Wearing the stripes tonight are Mike Callahan, Kane Fitzgerald and John Goble. No change to the let em play style that this series has seen since the outset. Raps play their most complete game of the series tonight and walk out of Bankers Fieldhouse with a W.

Heat vs. Hornets . The Heat limp up to the Hive tonight still talking or whining more about missed foul calls than what they have to do to beat the Buzz. The Hornets are very good at home with a 30-11 record. The Heat are a pedestrian 20-21 on the road. The Heat struggle to score in the half court and the Hornets under Clifford play good half court defense. Wade is going to try to win this all by himself and will come out blazing…but this is Charlottes chance to close out the Heat at home and move on to the second round. Countering Wade will be Walker and Lin. Walker and Lin have the most feared skill in sports .. speed. Using that speed advantage they will continue to blow by the 34 year old Wade and “the matador” Goran Dragic and put up a lot of points in the paint. Speed never has an off night. Big Al will get his in the paint as well and the quiet Marvin Williams will be better from the arc than Deng and JJ. Hornets shoot well for a second game in a row at the arc and the Heat meet midnight at the Hive tonight. Charlotte W.

Clips vs Rip City . The Clips ride into Portland without their AllStar PG and PF. They are going to ride out of town with a loss as its hard to see how they conjure up a win against Lillard and McCollum and Co. when Austin Rivers gets the start. Its unfair that they lose both their guys but such is sports. Nuthin’s fair.
There's no such thing as a 2nd round bust.
