  • Robert Swift: NBA Player turned Junkie, turned .. NBA Player?

Absolutely heart breaking story, but really a great read.

Would love to see him get back to playing Pro Ball, or even the DLeague at least.

We won't hear back from him. He dissapears into thin air and reappears when you least expect it. Ten is an enigma. Ten is a legend. Ten for the motherfucking win.

      Read this yesterday.

Seems like he still has a ways to go mentally before he could even handle playing in a real league. The whole temper tantrum and walking out when his rec team didn't give him the ball in their tournament loss would be a huge red flag for a guy who definitely has an uphill battle ahead of him. He could certainly get an camp invite based solely on his size and previous potential, but he has to be a pretty long shot.

Overseas would make a lot of sense if he can get a Visa with his criminal record. He'd be a bigger fish in a small pond, which would allow him to play in a more positive environment (lesser competition = more success). He had that success in Japan before the team folded and emulating that experience might be his best case scenario for a basketball career.

D-League salary and environment should make it less appealing. He's a young man who needs to get his life in order, battling with other talents for a few NBA roster spots each year (while making much less money) sounds like bigger risk for a guy who is still quite fragile mentally/emotionally. D-League could be the faster path if NBA is his be-all goal, but in terms of career and mental health, overseas makes more sense to me and still allows for a potential future return.
