Last night on PTI Nash was interviewed and asked (amongst other things) about the team'sdescision to wear jerseys with "Los Suns" in a show of disagreement regarding the new law re curbing illegal immigration.
For those unaware, this is a serious problem especially in border states (with Mexico).
"The law makes it a state crime to be in Arizona without proper documents and requires local police to check the legal status of suspected undocumented immigrants."
In effect, "suspected" is the issue and how this would be described and enforced. Is this a law accepting of racial profiling? Certainly, long standing citizens who are/look Hispanic and possibly contravening a municipal bylaw could find themselves "under suspicion".
In anycase, this it is highly unusual where a professional sports team supported by ownership is taking a proactive roll in a political matter. As the link indicates, one of my basketball "demi-gods", Popovich, has voiced his full support of what the Suns are doing. Am proud of Nash as well for being the team spokesman on the issue.
