Don’t know if there are many baseball fans here, but if you haven’t seen the highlights from last night’s debut of Stephen Strasburg, I urge you to have a look.

Some nut cases are already saying he is the 21st century Walter Johnson.

Please - One game a career does not make. Though I will admit he can bring it.

Still slower than this guy who was clocked at 104 mph.

With the Tigers, he has most often been used as a middle relief pitcher and occasionally as a setup man, filling the innings after the starter has finished and before the closer has come in. Zumaya is a fan favorite for his intense, aggressive attitude on the mound and his 100 MPH fastball, which has topped out at 104.6 MPH.

I love watching a good pitcher do his thing and ... I guess the point with Strasburg is, he’s a 21 year old rookie pitching his first major league game last night, starting ... and in seven innings, he gave up four hits and struck out fourteen. I’d heard about him but hadn’t seen him until watching this video. There’ve been a number guys who can throw 100 plus mph who don’t last in the majors, ‘cause that’s all they can do; as in, little command and not much ‘stuff’. As a pitcher, this guy seems to have the whole package.

(a bit after the fact, but ... ) btw, Buddahfan ... you’re not really comparing an underhand-fastball pitcher who pitched against industrial league teams in the fifties to this guy, are you? Really? Naa, didn’t think so.

The Jays had/have a guy like that in Dustin Mcgowan.. Been injured the last two seasons, but he had amazing stuff.. I'd like to see a pitcher dual between the two if Mcgowan ever gets back to his old form. Maybe not an exact comparison, but I think he's doing so well now because people have never faced him before, oh well.. He's good, what can I say. *jealous*

Looks like the Nats had to shut down Strasburg with a dead arm. Kid with an arm that live and throwing that hard, it was bound to happen. Good thing the Nats did the right thing and gave him some rest. Don't want him blowing out his arm and putting his career in jeopardy so quickly. The whole thing would have smacked of Mark Prior who was fantastic fireballer (with electric stuff) with the Cubs his first couple of seasons for falling off the earth because of arm troubles
