That was the big news he was talking about earlier today.

That is about in line with what I thought he would get at the top side except he got an extra year more than what I expected.

I like the idea of having our second most productive player last year around for another 5 years, but I get the feeling BC bid against himself again and they could have gotten him for cheaper. If he gets the minutes, Amir will easily show he's worth it.

It is $2 million more than Drew Gooden got. So Liston's thread was right there.

I'm happy for Amir, and the money is not hugely above what I figured he'd get - I was hoping around $6 mil a year, he got just under $7M.

A- for the signing, just 'cause I figure he could have been had for a few million less.

I'd be shocked if BC was the only GM interested though.

Yeah well considering how we all see how much potential Amir still has, other GMs for sure saw that in him as well. Definitely other teams were interested in him so Im stoked on the deal, not so much the money but lets hope he only gets better and lives up to it

For People who think this was a STEAL of a DEAL.
What are you expectations of Amir in the coming year?
How many minutes do you think he should be able to play?
What kind of numbers sound reasonable with his new Salary and Status in the Raptor Land?

Well, I don't think anyone actually thinks this is a steal. It is what it is. The Raptors were bidding against a few other teams, and with Drew Gooden getting similar money, it was pretty inevitable that Amir would be getting the kind of money he did. I'd love to have seen him gotten for less, but it's obvious that wasn't going to happen. All you complaining that he was overpaid have to realize that was almost certainly getting similar offers elsewhere.

As for his minutes, I'd like to see him get around 30 minutes a game, and I'm not really hung up on numbers. I would just like to see him contribute the same as he did in 17 minutes over 30 minutes.

Definitely on the side closer to unlikely, but we can always hope. =)

I probably should have said similarly. It's doubtful he'll be able to maintain what he did over 17 minutes for 30 minutes. Still, if he bring a similar amount of energy, hustle and does the other things he does well, I'll be happy.

Helping the Raptors win. I am sure he will continue his hardest during games and in practice to try and make that happen

According to Bruce Arthur from the National Post, Phoenix and Golden State were interested in Amir too.

Looks like Phoenix and Golden State were both interested in Amir Johnson, per @gswscribe and @paulcoro. 5/34M-interested? We'll never know.

This is interesting because a month or so ago I had an email exchange with someone in the Pistons organization that I still maintain contact with. He said to me "Amir would sure look good with Nash"

Not to be unless Nash gets traded to Toronto

I think there were 4 teams interested in Amir, probably why the deal ended being more than it should be but ah well its good to keep the young gunz here.
